Suspicious rundll32 local server launched by Deezer app

Has anyone else noticed this? Every time I launch the Windows Deezer app and change the volume for the first time when it plays a track, Deezer launches this process:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe -localserver 22d8c27b-47a1-48d1-…

So to be clear, the steps are, in order:

  • launch Deezer app
  • play a title
  • change the audio volume

If I change the volume without Deezer being there or playing a track, nothing happens.

This process keeps running quietly in the background, even if the app is shut down completely. Once killed, it doesn’t reappear unless the system is restarted.

I haven’t taken the time to try and intercept the network communication this process was having, but I find it highly suspicious. I was wondering if someone had figured out its real purpose and what it transmitted (and where).

It’s not a recent thing; it’s like that on the current version (7.0.140), but I spotted that behaviour in previous versions already.

After more tests and searching, it’s apparently a suspicious process launched … by Windows 10 for the volume control. 😜

So I suppose my question becomes: is there a way to stop that silly behaviour?

It has no significant impact on the performances or resources, but it’s obviously unnecessary, and I don’t like having weird processes sprouting around in my system.

I don’t have any error.

Please check my 2nd post: it’s apparently normal on Windows 10.
