Chromecast not working for Onkyo devices

I have a couple of Onkyo devices with built-in Chromecast functionality. However, this is not working with Deezer. When I try to play on the Onkyo via Chromecast, Deezer states "loading" and never finishes, or only plays very short sequences (few seconds) of audio before loading again.
Bug appears for both beta and normal version of Deezer since a few month.

Please fix. This is working for me with Spotify, Google Play Music and many other music player apps.

Hey @Melxiory

Sorry for the way you feel and for my reply in English - Russian isn't supported in the community at the moment. We've been working on a new integration for months and we're almost there. We should expect more updates by the end of the year :thumbsup_tone2:

Hello @jaywalker ,

We are sorry to hear that you're encountering issues with Google Cast on Deezer.
We currently focus on improving experience with Google Cast and your feedbacks are welcome :)

Just to be sure that your issue is well understood, could you confirm whether you are experiencing intermittent gaps in the middle of audio tracks OR are the tracks only playing for a limited amount of time (~30s) before switching to the next one ?

We would also be grateful if you could provide us with a few more inputs:
  • type of Deezer account (Premium or Elite)
  • audio quality selected for casting (see in Settings -> Audio settings -> "Streaming to devices"
  • models of Onkyo devices you use
  • bandwidth of internet connection used by your Onkyo devices
Thank you for your help!

Gabriel

Deezer premium, which I now quit due to this issue.

I have an Onkyo TX-NR676E, TX-NR575R, and CS-N575D. All show the same behavior: Typically, it is not possible to connect at all. Deezer tries for ca. one minute, than crashes or stops trying.
Sometimes it connects, but stops playing after a few seconds. In this case the app shows that it is trying to reconnect, which fails.
I can reproduce this error with all available settings for audio quality for casting in Deezer.
The Onkyos are connected to a 50 MBit/s DSL internet connection, all sharing the same local network.

I hope this helps to resolve the issue.

Can confirm the problem with Onkyo TX-NR676E.

Cromecast: extreme long loading time until music start using the Android beta app. 20-30s until song is starting. Buffering during playback. Suddenly stopping in the middle of a song. Loading next song take too much time.

Native Deezer app: sometimes songs are not playing at all, even when they play fine on Android in the same WiFi.

Tested with 1gbit/s Lan and multiple WiFi networks (2,4ghz and 5ghz). Wired Lan was slightly better but still so slow that I would call it unusable.

I have Onkyo NS-6170 with similar problems related to chromecast. Long time is necessary to established connection, and connection is not stable. I can play few songs, but connection interrupt from time to time, and then finely stop. My Onkyo device is frozen after that. I have HiFi subscription, fast and stable internet connection. I also test on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network, and with wired connection (onkyo NS-6170, connected to local network with cable). Same is for all option.

I can use deezer directly as built-in option in onkyo (through onkyo mobile or onkyo PC application), than everything work ok, without any interrupts. On that way I can play deezer on NS-6170, but I have to deal with very poor and limited interface of onkyo applications.

Chromcast is not usable function with deezer at the moment, at least for my device.

I have Onkyo TX-NR686 with similar problems (can't connect) related to chromecast.

Hi I have a similar problem onkyo 686 in app Chromacast blocks the deezer. no sound at all.
The normal bluetooth connection works fine, but if by mistake you select the in app connection the way out is to plug out the amp.

same problem for me, RX NR474. firmware (Version 1101-2010-0060-0010)

Can confirm TX-NR676E still have the same issue. Spotify/ you tube also not connecting. I think it's the onkyo AVR not the app.

Can confirm the same for TX-8250. And no, it is not nessacerily the Onkyo, since I can cast from phone to the Onkyo (all audio, which I don't want). Often the Onkyo freezes when this happens.
Onkyo replaced the device under warenty, no go. The new device shows the same problems.
I am under rge impression that the problem gets worse over time.

There's a new Android app "Onkyo Music Control App" available in PlayStore that might work better with the integrated Deezer support (I can't really test this because my test subscription has expired, but the free radio channels seem to work fine).

So throw the Deezer app out of your smart phone!

I have all the above issues with my Onkyo TX-8260, it definitely is not the receiver... Spotify runs absolutely flawlessly either using my IPad, my Iphone or the remote controller (in the same stream)... the Deezer app is just not there yet!... and the funny of it is...this issue has at least 9 months old! Really?.. I moved to Deezer for the Hi-Fi and I tell you... when Spotify hits it... I will go back... to me is frustrating to use the spotify to find (easier) what I want to hear and then punch the keys in Deezer like if it was an ancient app! Deezer guys... please go to work on this! The app is really bad!
CHROMECAST is really bad in Deezer (Apple user myself)
the Onkyo controller really needs to integrate so you don’t “cast” the app is native in the receiver... guys... to me is a no brainer

I think it is more of a Chromecast Built-in problem on Onkyo. I’m having this problem from wherever I try to cast. Currently trying to cast from Roon. No luck. keeps on showing connecting connecting….. So when using Deezer.

I’m having general trouble with Onkyo NR676 and chromecast. There was a firmware update some time between 2017 and 2019 that seems to have broken chromecast. Even casting from Google Home Mini to the TX-NR676 no longer works after the firmware update.

The same problem with Pioneer VSX-933 and Deezer, Google Play Music and other Chromecast-based casting. It's Onkyo problem not Deezer.

But also should say for some speakers with Chromecast built-in Deezer's implementation of casting works slower and less reliable that Google Play Music's.

Thanks for sharing @sashaacosta. You're right, but fortunately, we're working on a new way to cast to these devices. Hopefully, we'll have updates about this even before the end of this year.

I have the same problem, and I see deezer is not interested for solving the problem. I thought I would have CD Quality music on my receiver. But as I see that the problem has been the same for a year, so I give up paying 20 euros a month. And unfortunately I will buy a CD-Player.

Thank you deezer for your support.
