I just got an email saying the price is increasing. Again!

I don't like this. I know everything is getting more expensive, but inflation is already making things more expensive. So it is actually getting double as expensive, while wages stagnate.

I'm thinking of swapping back to free, as music streaming is ballooning to become a bigger part of my yearly budget.

I understand that nobody likes a price increase but Deezer has always been committed to better promoting the music created by artists. In line with this commitment, and in order to continue its ongoing investment in innovation intended to fully support artists and improve the fan experience, Deezer has decided to adjust its prices.

  • From September 21st, 2023, prices will be adjusted for all new Premium and Family subscriptions in France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom
  • All existing subscribers in these countries will be notified that the adjusted pricing will take effect for them, at the earliest, during the first billing period following October 24, 2023

We are a two person family listening little and are again confronted with a price hike. Why should a two-person family pay as much as a 4 four person family and endure the same price hikes?
I understand a streaming service cannot be for free but these prices are becoming ridiculous.
I don’t have a Netflix subscription but I looked at their prices and they are considerably cheaper. And they are a TV streaming service.
I guess you will lose a lot of subscriptions. I can pay for the subscription but I refuse too pay always more. Imagine all those people who don’t have the money anymore after those ridiculously expensive winters with high energy costs.

Same here in The Netherlands, my partner and I listen little and though I can pay it, I refuse price hikes and paying for others. Why don’t they have accounts for two people?

For me it was 14,99 euros till March 2022. Then it was suddenly increased to 17,99, and now 19,99. That is almost a 25% increase in a very short time. Much more than the inflation rate anyway. And my husband and I listen at most an hour a day. So this price is really becoming ridiculous for the two of us, even if we can pay it.

I didn’t know. I just checked the new prices and indeed, 19,99 for the family and 11,99 for one user. I can understand your question regarding the duo plan, which Deezer doesn’t have. And the big green giant does. And there a duo account is 14,99.

I think the layout of Deezer is better and the sound quality, but I can understand your concern.

I was happy with Deezer when I started it years ago. 
I liked the Flow, it was always playing new songs that I liked. Now it often repeats the same pattern, playing the same songs. It has become so predictable and boring.
My husband who uses “random” with his favorites, says something similar.

The layout of Deezer was good years ago, but now has become way too crowded in my opinion.

For 20 euro’s a month I can also start buying CD’s like in “the good old times”. Sure, less choice (after all you cannot buy anything you want), but Deezer now costs about 2400 euros for 10 years. One can buy a nice collection for all that money and the best thing: That music will be yours forever. It won’t be gone when you stop the subscription.

That’s also why I don’t stream movies anymore: The movies and series I buy will always be mine and they won’t disappear before I have watched them.

I’m the same, I bitterly contested the rise from £14.99 to £17.99 and challenged Deezer to justify the price increase. I was lazy and just left it, but I have no intention of swallowing another rise. Literally every other streaming service is cheaper, seems a bad move 🤷‍♂️

Be VERY attentive: Deezer let me know about the price increase LESS than 24 hours before the subscription renewal. 
This is scandalous, at least let your clients know a month before.
And then, when you want to cancel the subscription, Deezer offer a ridiculous 3 months with the old price, but they locate and color the buttons differently, so that if you do not pay attention, you are stuck with them for another 3 months.
Has been a long time that I have seen such a scandalous behaviour.

While they didn't increase the prices in the US, I'm already considering switching to YouTube Premium which comes with YouTube Music at $13.99, which I expect Deezer (currently at $10.99) would reach soon in the US. At least with that I still get music and the added benefit of no ads in YouTube.

Yeah, I got my account in the Netherlands years ago, so I'm on Dutch pricing. So I still have to accept the price increase, despite living in Canada.

My question: as you are arguing that in order to fully support artists Deezer is increasing pricing, does that mean that the price increase will go towards an increase in artist royalties? If that is the case, I would be much less bothered by an increase, because I would happily pay an extra euro if that means collectively the artists I listen to would earn an extra euro.

As I can understand the discussion about the increase, I wonder what kind of discussions happened when the green giant increased their prices from 9,99 to 10,99? I think the same only on a bigger scale.

In this second price increase (because let's face it, forcing the HiFi option unto all family subscriptions was just that), you write:

A second very significant price rise increase this year when inflation / costs are running high. Would like to know what percentage will benefit the artists. Will have to seriously consider alternatives as I suspect many others will.

Yes, made me laugh, too, a fair compensation for artists… stopped my family subscription, too. Looking for an alternative.

From Forbes October 2021:

“Streaming service Deezer has broken a pledge made only months ago not to put up its prices.

The company is increasing the price of its Premium plan from £9.99 per month to £11.99 per month in the U.K., while the Family plan jumps from £14.99 to £17.99.

This comes only five months after the company publicly pledged that “Deezer isn’t going to raise prices in the middle of the pandemic”, following a price increase from rival Spotify. In the U.K. at least, the pandemic is in the worse state it's been for months.

Deezer also stated that if “we ever were to increase prices, we would give our users a three-month heads up to make sure that it doesn’t come as a surprise”.

Deezer has NO respect for its customers. And the Deezer CEO is already promising more price increases I just read….

I already cancelled. Am not gonna pay 20 euros for just 2 persons who both listen 1 hour daily at most.
Another known streaming service has a cheaper duo subscription.

Just cancelled my subscription, I hope a great many other subscribers do as well.  25% increase in a year is way too much, and well outpaces inflation and cost of living increases.  Been a subscriber for roughly ten years, and stayed with deezer even when other services had things I wanted that deezer did not provide.  If deezers costs have gone up 25%, you have a problem that needs fixing in house, passing on those costs to your loyal customers is not the solution.  Don't lie/deceive your customers about why you are increasing prices.  I'd like to see a rundown of what warrants this hike, just as several others in this thread have mentioned.

 

Edit: worth noting that I am a United States customer.  It is strange they are saying it is only happening to customers in those five countries listed above.  Also, they notified me roughly two weeks before the renewal.  Can you please at least give a months notice?  Preferably two or more.

I've cancelled my £19.99 subscription also. Too many price increases. Now with YouTube premium which includes music. Not the up most quality but music and video :)

A year ago, when Deezer doubled its prices in Israel, I left Deezer  and switch my family to Spotify, and I’m very happy with the move - there are some things I liked better in Deezer, but most of the things are equal or better in Spotify, and most importantly: The price I pay Spotify ($9.8 for a family subscription) is half what Deezer charges today ($18).

 

Does Deezer pay $8 a month per month per subscriber to artists more than Spotify does? If not, I don’t see how this is a valid excuse for your prices. If you do pay a lot more to artists, and have data to prove it, please show it and let subscribers decide for themselves if they want to join your service for this specific reason. Because at double prices, there is simply no good reason left to be on Deezer. This used to make me sad - I was on Deezer for several years and tried to convince other people to try it too - but I’m no longer sad: I’m enjoying Spotify for half the price, and not looking back (except when I get notifications from the DeezerCommunity site :-)).

Left Deezer - tried the competition - ended up back at Deezer! Left Deezer for Spotify due to price rise of the family plan to £19.99. However, although Spotify has a good UI, it did not play well with the kids Amazon Echo Dots. Every time they asked Alexa to play something, it would appear on my Sonos speakers or even my iMac if I have Spotify open! I read up and this is a know issue. So I went to Apple Music. Same happened but I could get around it by creating separate Amazon accounts for the kids and linking those accounts to to the dots and then linking their individual Apple accounts. This worked for my eldest son but the issue was Apple does not have a proper kids profile for my 9 year old daughter. Rather it’s an adult profile with kid restrictions. This meant when she launch it it looked and felt like an adult account - it even showed Green Day! At least Spotify had its own kids app. So I went back to Spotify and eventually got it to work so that my son could listen to music using Alexa and not sync to my speakers. This is because he has his own Spotify account. However my daughter is too young so she has a kids account and you cannot link kids account to the Dot!! So that’s it - I’m back with Deezer! I found Deezer just had everything I need, but is more expensive at £19.99. Sometimes the better the devil you know. It’s a shame Spotify could not solve the echo dot integration limitation because the UI is really good. The fact Apple doesn’t have proper kids profiles is also bad….Deezer does it all and for the extra couple of quid over Spotify or £3 over Apple, it’s probably worth having all the integration and child friendly profiles. So over a 10 day period I’ve gone from Deezer to Spotify to Apple Music to Spotify and eventually back to Deezer 🤣🤣🤣. What a Christmas 🤣🤣🤣
