Just got the below email and wondering what's going on. I'm in the Caribbean, Jamaica specifically. Spotify recently entered the market so I guess I will be switching.

We appreciate that you're part of the Deezer Free listening community; however, sometimes good things come to an end. Deezer Free will no longer be available in your country as of 19/4/2022.

I got same email today. I am from Lithuania (EU country). We have Spotify here for a long time so this is not the case. No more free Deezer I guess. Any official news about this?

Been checking online but nothing official so far

its a shame.

this app gave me podcasts, playlists and shazam - all in one.

guess i’m going back to my legacy apps.

It’s a shame, really shame!!! My brother got this email yesterday. We are from Athens, Greece. I already have a premium account (since 29/09/2021) and he was ready to go to premium too. But after this racial discrimination from Deezer side, he will go for an other app, like Spotify or something. And I think I’ll follow him.

Shame on you Deezer!!!

And please, change your email message to the real one: We don’t appreciate that you're part of the Deezer Free listening community and we just want your money. Deezer Free will no longer be available in your country as of 19/4/2022.

I'm trying to understand their logic behind this move as well. They may want more paying customers however there user base is already so small vs Spotify, 16 mil vs 400 mil.

They have been going about this all wrong, I think they will lose more customers after this.

It's a shame as the service is very much comparable to Spotify, however they have done very bad with marketing and adding new users over the years.

I had always stuck to Deezer as they were available way before Spotify.

They want to copy Apple Music I guess 😜

This whole thing is scummy as hell. Free users have often been building up a music collection over years, so simply porting over to another streaming service is not that straightforward. Deezer knows this, and hopes free users will simply roll over and pay to keep their collection. As much as it will suck to lose all my playlists, I honestly think it’s worth the trouble out of principle. I don’t like shady business practices and I don’t appreciate being extorted. I’ll be setting up my Spotify account today.

The irony is I was very likely going to upgrade to Premium later this year (to get rid of the annoying ads), was just waiting to have some breathing room in my budget. I guess I’ll give my money to Spotify instead.

Update to the comment above: It’s done, it was way easier than I thought and I already have Spotify running all my playlists. For those who don’t know, there are services like https://www.tunemymusic.com/ which let you transfer your library from one music streaming service to another. It’s not perfect (free version only lets you transfer 500 tracks at a time, so some manual editing is required for playlists larger than that), but I got most of my Deezer library into Spotify in a little over one hour. Will be porting over the rest in the next few days. Deezer can say goodbye to whatever ad revenue they were getting from me.

I’m totally confused. So now deezer isn’t scummy as hell for knowing that “Free users have often been building up a music collection over years, so simply porting over to another streaming service is not that straightforward”?

anyway, congrats on getting over to Spotify Free! they will be happy to be getting your ad revenue!

Cheers!

Is this a bad attempt at bait or are you actually this stupid? Wait, nevermind. Both answers are the same, aren’t they? Peace.

Both answers are no, so they are indeed the same. I was genuinely curious, but you are apparently angry and have resorted to name calling, maybe because money is tight? No need to be embarrassed or angry.

Peace to you as well. ✌

Just got the below email and wondering what's going on.

I got it in NZ as well and I’m wondering the same thing. What’s happening @Rudi ?

Yes, Deezer Free is ending in Malaysia on 19 Apr 2022. I came over to Deezer from Spotify Free last year because Spotify had some issues in their service to me.
I guess I have to go back to Spotify Free but on a different email account.
So sad as I really enjoyed Deezer compared to Spotify.

Deezer is letting ne know that soon deezer free will come to an end... Well, sorry deezer, but I'm not going to upgrade. I was comfortable using deezer, even had premium for about a year, but I'll get used just as easly with another app. And it's not about money, really. Just out of principle. Hope deezer's PR is reading all the negative comments and someone changes their mind. Next time let it be known from the start that you don't intend to have a Free version for too long. It's called fairness.

Boy oh boy oh boy, i guess deezer does not want my ad revenue anymore, straight to spotify i go. So long  and thanks for all the tunes!

I used an app a year ago when I switched from soundiiz to Musconvtool but forgot abt it so I’ll just save the playlist and use the same one to shift it

I'm using deezer since 2017 and convinced 7 of my friends to download deezer instead of spotify,  we built an incredible playlist over the years and appreciated all what deezer was doing for us like those funny email describing us like animals according to the kind of songs we were listening and the deezer year .

Personally after that email I feel rejected cause deezer was a sort of home for all the free user + some really really wanna go premium but don't have the money but feel welcomed as a free user sth spotify wasn't doing at first just like a church where the poor go to find love and build a community with others .

Imma go to spotify now with alot of deception from you guys #CAMEROUN

Saw a article recently that they may be trying to go public. They have investors who wish to exit and cash in on the returns as such they would need to show the value, ie paid users

Yes, it did. I liked how it gave me options to choose what to transfer. Since i had already exported all my playlist using tunemyplaylist link above, i just selected my liked (favourite) songs and it exported majority of them.

Thanks Man.
