Deezer playlists with Amazon Alexa

The deezer website is not clear - it appears you may be able to play public playlists but does not make it clear you cannot play your own playlists.
Are there any updates on this? I really love using Deezer but the third party integration is pretty bad and will definitely influence my decision in the long run.
when do the Service come, that Alexa Van Play User defined Playlists?

Sincerely hope you can make it within the next three months. It’s gonna be a decisive factor for me to decide whether to stay after my trial period.

So far I’m very happy with everthing, but this is quite a big flaw and if not solved would make it useless to be a premium subscriber, at least for me.

I’m glad to see this is being worked on, and that other users want it as well.  I’m a little concerned about the “hopefully” bit :) ….it is pretty essential I think.

To address the questions by SikoSoft, there is no workaround I am aware of other than using the app.  I have found though that My Flow actually really works well, and is the reason I became a premium member (along with being able to upload your own songs to a private play list). It does take time though to learn what you like, but for me has been an invaluable way to discover new music.

Hopefully there is an update soon.

That’s not ideal, but one thing that could be done is to connect the iPhone to echo dot by using Bluetooth, so you could use the Deezer app in iPhone in order to play your own playlists. That works for me until the Alexa skill can’t do that by it self.

So I thought I would pass along a tip I have found helpful while we all wait patiently for the new deezer Alexa skill to drop.

Many times Alexa will not recognize my request to play a certain playlist or song. This is compounded by the fact that I listen to a lot of Latin music and Deutschrap. Alexa doesn’t get the request right even though I know deezer (or whatever streaming service you are using) has the playlist, song, album etc.in the catalog.  I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve said, “Alexa, play the playlist ‘Deutschrap Hype’ on deezer” to no avail.

Enter Alexa routines. Mind you, this will not allow you to play your own playlists on deezer or Tidal (although it will on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music). But it will permit you to play almost anything in the library with ease. I say almost anything, because deezer’s baffling choice to name all of their daily playlists “daily” still defeats this solution. Alexa will play a daily deezer mix when I program a routine using “Play ‘daily’ Playlist” on deezer, but it’s not any of the daily mixes on my app, those that are tailored to my listening preferences.

You can Google “Alexa routines” for instructions, but it is extremely simple.

  1. Open the Alexa app .
  2. Open More  and select Routines.
  3. Select Plus .
  4. Select When this happens, and follow the steps in the app to choose what starts your routine.
  5. Select Add action, and follow the steps in the app to choose the action of your routine. You can select multiple actions for the same routine.
  6. Select Save.

I choose to name my routines after their corresponding playlist, e.g. “Hype” for the deezer playlist Deutschrap Hype.  I then choose a simple command like, “Alexa, time for Hype.”  I leave the “Deutschrap” out because it is obviously Alexa’s sticking point in the first place.

It then becomes a simple matter to play anything on Alexa (other than one’s own playlists, ahem, deezer).

It is still not as nice as Spotify Connect, but it has been my go-to workaround with deezer and Apple Music. I’ve grown so frustrated with Tidal and Amazon Music HD’s streaming (apparently buffering) issues that I am rarely using them anymore. I am discontinuing my free Qobuz trial for a number of reasons, but that’s another thread (and probably another forum).

And as long as I am here, I was disappointed to read on these forums that deezer does not stream in hi-fi on my Amazon Echo Studios (unless I read/interpreted that incorrectly, I am open to correction). This will likely mean that in the event that deezer comes through with this new Alexa skill during my trial period, and it is functional and impressive enough for me to elect to begin a paid subscription, I will likely move from a hi-fi subscription to a premium sub.

To be fair, apparently Apple Music does not stream in ALAC (Apple lossless) on the Echo Studios, either, as the ALAC is not yet supported. And Spotify (currently, pre-Spotify hi-fi era) streams in the 320kbps Ogg Vorbis. As far as I know, Amazon Music HD and Tidal are the only services streaming in hi-fi/hi-res to my Studios, and while the sound quality is outstanding, both of those services are glitchy and frustrating, which makes me question the viability of streaming hi-res music at all on the Studios (my wifi is superb). Apple and Spotify sound fantastic on the Studios and I would expect that deezer premium would as well.

As always, thank you to whoever is reading and listening.

It is now 2020 when do you think Amazon echo dot can play created playlists from deezer as i a have a lot of playlists if someone could let me know that would be greatly appreciated thanks as my mom loves my music when doing housework and such or when revamping my literature library or movie library again if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated thanks

Yeah, thought about that, but that has two major drawbacks which make it a no go for me:

  • must keep the phone always in range
  • can’t play music on multiple devices using a group
I hope it Will come soon. I bought An Alexa because Deezer cannot be linked with Google home yet. But still I cannot use it like I want. We are premium, so we want to use it like we want ! No ?

Thanks for the feedback @santama we would love to make it happen for all users but as you mentioned, it is more complex than it seems. I will pass the feedback to our developers and hopefully there will be progress during 2021.:relaxed:

I have just started the 3 x month trial of Deezer and discover that I cannot play my Playlists via Alexa.

Reading this thread, I see that this has been ongoing for over 2 x years! So it appears that this won’t happen anytime soon.  I won’t be extending my use of Deezer once the trial period is complete.

Hi Rudi, were you able to get an update from your devs, this is a feature I think a lot of us have been waiting for for some time now.

I just switched from Google+Spotify to Alexa+Deezer as the Alexa Echo is in my opinion better for audio and Spotify couldn’t recognize my own Playlists for now with Alexa.

It seemed at first better with Deezer as when I call for one of my own Playlists it plays it. But I realized that it is played as a flow and not a playilst so shuffle is not possible.

From what I see in this thread, it is normal but the Deezer developpers are working on it.

Do you have any idea of the delay to offer us this support on Deezer ?

For me it seems the killer feature to supports our own playlist fully as the Deezer App on Alexa. So for now, I started 3 month free account on both Amazon Music & Deezer and I will end up with the best of Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music at the end of the trial delay. For sure for audio quality sake, I will stick with Alexa a assistant / speaker.

Thank-you.

I did not renew my membership as the Alexa support is an issue for me, and have been going month-to-month with Amazon music but still hoping for some news from Deezer on an Alexa skill.

Amazon still has trouble with non-English names, but the ability to use the app and "send" the song to my echo makes it workable. For me, that feature alone, more than anything else, is what I want from Deezer.  Otherwise it is maybe a bit better with voice recognition, but not much.

I'm still checking in here because after a year of Deezer, it simply does a much better job with  "My Flow" than anything comparable.

Any update on a new skill?

Hi @Leonídia.Deezer

I loved Deezer but cancelled my paid membership a long time back for the lack of Alexa integration with personal playlists. I have to ask why, if it is now working, that no formal announcement was made.

It seems like you could regain members with this simple announcement.

You also mention months ago. Is it still in some alpha version. Is this why there was no announcement?.

Came looking for the same answer as lots of others.  Is there really still no way to play a personal playlist on Alexa?

The issue I’m having:  I listen to a lot of foreign songs.  Alexa can’t find most of them because it can’t pronounce anything that is not English.  My work-around is to get a song playing, then ask it what that song is called. Then I try to pronounce it that way.  This is what I use playlists for, and it worked on Amazon Music.

Problem: I can’t get Deezer to find the song without using the app. Then in the app, I can’t get it to play over my echo unless I share my bluetooth, which means Alexa knows nothing about what is playing.  So basically I can’t use Alexa to play the music I want.  Very, very frustrating; if I have to use my phone to play songs, I can just get them on youtube.

Any other suggestions here?

Can you update Deezer so that it will link with Alexa so I can play my playlists & music of my choice
It will only play one flow playlist
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.dee.app

& Can you add Deezer to the firmware of kitsound KS one speaker so I can play directly with the kitsound app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wifiaudio.Kitsound
https://kitsound.co.uk/category/speakers/bluetooth_speakers#

You've got to keep up with connectivity otherwise we will switch you streaming services that do connect

Yeah, thought about that, but that has two major drawbacks which make it a no go for me:

  • must keep the phone always in range
  • can’t play music on multiple devices using a group

Another drawback for me is that sometimes MyFlow picks a really great song, and I want to ask “What song is this?”  Unfortunately just being connected through bluetooth means Alexa knows nothing about what is actually playing, so it has no answer.

Hopefully this comes soon!

This basic feature has been on the road map for over 3 years. I was one of the original US Deezer users (when the only way to subscribe required a Bose Soundlink).

I eventually went to spotify because of its technical features. Of course Spotify can play user playlists on Alexa. It also allows you to actively manage the queue from the spotify app. You can add, remove and move songs around in the live queue. It also works flawlessly with multiple speaker groups. And, the flexible API has allowed for hundreds of integration apps.

I came back to Deezer. The Flow feature is by far the best and adapts to my music. All of the music I listen to is available (unlike Spotify) and the sound quality is superior.

Many users have fled Spotify and are looking for a new platform. Tidal, Amazon, and Apple are all gaining subscriptions but none of their integrations work well with Alexa (surprisingly,  not even Amazon Music).

So, Deezer has a tremendous opportunity to grab users. But with even the most basic feature of user playlists on Alexa missing for over 3 years, I have to wonder if Deezer will ever get close to Spotify features.

I am here for now. But unless Deezer gives serious attention to technical features (playlists, multi-room, and real time control to name a few) I'll be going back to Spotify as soon as the music availability issue is resolved.

I presume that Deezer has seen a jump in subscriptions since the Spotify problems began. It is important to recognize that these new subscriptions are not because Deezer is the best in class, but because the first choice can't fully come to the dance.

Deezer, please take this opportunity to step up your development and make your product the best and first choice.

Thanks @Rudi That will make a big difference.

3+ years and still no update.  Please stop saying “coming soon” its when obviously not coming anytime this decade.

Apple Music and Spotify are fully functional options with Alexa…..

@musicfanatic815 , I’m being borderline pedantic, but indulge me and define “fully functional”?

I wanted to chime in as my annual membership is coming up for renewal.  The playlists are definitely an ongoing concern for me, most specifically because of the trouble I have of playing anything that does not have an English name that Alexa can identify properly.  Oh the constant headache of selecting songs by “Gabri Ponte”…..

I’m hoping for some good news on the new skill, especially as I use this more and more in my car via Echo Auto.  In the meantime, I think I’m going to have to revert to the free service and give a shot at Amazon Music monthly hoping for the best here.

Love Deezer, then discoverability of My Flow is mostly awesome, but that playlist support...

By telling Alexa to play a playlists, genres etc….

deezer is capable of that by your definition.

you classed apple and spotify together, as distinct from deezer, hence my question, which you didn’t answer.

no worries, moving on.

cheers
