Change in charting criteria for Deezer Top 100 Worldwide and other Top 100 Charts?

Hi everyone,

 

On June 10 update, there are quite a lot of shufflings on Top 100 Worldwide - some hit songs that have been charting high for months are gone or dropped sharply and many songs just entered the chart today. The #1 song yesterday and for the past few months, Like Crazy, is now at #87. I was under the impression that Top 100 Worldwide ranks Deezer’s most streamed songs daily, but with today’s update, I wonder if there is a change in Deezer’s charting criteria, i.e. perhaps the number of unique listeners is also considered, similar to Spotify and Melon?

From Deezer page :

"What counts as a stream?"
Any song that is played for 30 seconds or more will count as a stream.

 

"What is a Daily Listener and how do they differ from daily streams?"
Daily listeners are the unique number of people who are listening to music each day, whereas streams are the total number of times some song has been played (for at least 30 seconds) each day. For example, if five people each listen to some track five times, it counts as five daily listeners and 25 daily streams.

 

Maybe the Daily Listeners changed the order of the songs on the charts !?

The changes you noticed in the Top 100 Worldwide chart are indeed significant, and we understand your concern.

It's interesting to note that “Like Crazy” experienced a drastic drop in streams from Sunday to Monday, losing 95% of its broadcasts.

While this behavior is unusual, the data is being carefully analyzed to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Can we mark the question unanswered? I haven’t actually got my question answered. I speculated the same that the unique listeners came into play for Deezer charts, however, it would be helpful if Deezer could actually confirm.

 

It is the only theory that makes sense for the strange occurrence on all the charts.

 

For streaming services with large market shares such as Spotify and YouTube, having a “daily cap” per account for platform charts make sense. However, for a streaming service with a smaller market share like Deezer, charts being weighted for unique listeners means that not only playlisted songs have an advantage due to exposure to a larger number of listeners, playlisted songs would dominate. Daily charts would just look like a big editorial playlist.

Deezer is committed to maintaining a fair and transparent streaming environment for artists and fans alike. In that perspective, we continuously monitor music streams across our platform and constantly improve our tools to identify any artificial activity.
The latest data available to us shows that the previously #1 streamed track no longer holds that top position.

Hi James, I’ve gotten the same responses, but it does not address my questions.

 

I’ve also asked more about what Deezer considered “artificial activity” as this seems to be a go-to whenever Support does not want to divulge information and just wants to close the inquiry.

 

Not only the previous #1 song saw this change, but a lot of non-playlisted songs previously charting were gone from Deezer charts. Deezer charts are mostly dominated by songs from big editorial playlists.
