New logo: Explanations 💜

After the announcement of the new logo and the new identity of Deezer, we took the time to read all your comments and feedback in order to address your concerns and understand your feelings

Opinions are very divided and several details were pointed out, including one that came up quite often: Why did you choose a heart 💜?
One comment cited “there is a more distant connection to music compared to the old logo”

The beating purple heart simply represents love and passion for music. The shapes of the logo vary to signify musical rhythms. Its movement and pulsing quality directly reflect the essence of music and the human response to the listening experience, much like a heartbeat.

Another question was “why did you decide to change everything/what is the purpose of this new identity?”

Deezer helps you “be and belong,” going beyond streaming to empower fans, artists and partners to express themselves and connect through our products and services.

Refreshing our visual identity is essential as we enter this new era for Deezer. This allows us to connect emotionally with music fans, artists and strategists through visual cues that let people know that with Deezer they can experience music, not just listen to it.

“The choice to have prioritised this change was not the best, it would have been good to strengthen the user experience rather than degrade it.”

Satisfying our users experience is indeed crucial. Development and modification choices can be complex, which means that the change itself was so significant that some bugs crept in during this transition. All have been flagged by our developers and technicians, who are already fixing these errors.

The identity change will be present in all future app updates. We hope you will adopt the new design and enjoy the new Deezer experience.

We adopt this new identity with pride, and although not everyone likes it yet, we still hope to find a place in your hearts 💜.

I still can't believe they've somehow ruined deezer :( How on earth does something as outright bad as this make it all the way through all the many layers of a company that previously made largely good decisions, without someone saying , “wait, stop, this looks asthetically dreadful and our long term paying users will likely hate it” ????

The design studio behind this rebrand is KOTO STUDIO. You can let them know what you think of their work on their socials. Judging by their own website they just love style over matter.

Instagram

Google

Twitter / X

Oh, I went to Koto’s instagram page, to show them my sincere condolences on the horrible work done, and there are a bunch of people praising this aberration. Obviously people that have never even used Deezer. Gross.

A simples question:

How do I get back to old interface? Just put this option on next version update asap.

I’m sorry but I really don’t like the new format or the  new logo.

There’s no way I can personalise my “home screen” and I’d like to see fav artists before my playlists.

Also, as someone said, the purple heart logo in my home screen looks like a dating app.

I’m going to try different music apps for the following months and look for an alternative.

Deezer still doesn’t get it. people PAY, Deezer needs to PLAY.nothing more. nothing “social”, nothing “identity”

Me and many users left because we know you will stand by this. I rather give money to the competition that just plays music and isnt having an “identity crisis”

Hope next shareholder meeting will show this was the right move for Deezer, but personally I think this might be your Bud Light.

I must say I don’t agree. Social is part of the game this days . Social approach is  available in almost every service , even when it’s not related to music . While the brand got changed in terms of logo , colors and slogan you still have your music . No one took it away or will ever take it away . Deezer is still a music service but with the option to connect between music lovers .

I couldn’t agree with you more! 😀

Probably people popped the champagne at Spotify the last few days. If they have business sense as well as a sense of humor they will give a discount for new customers with the coupon-code PURPLE. But frankly, I dont think that is necessary. I just polished up my French by reading comments on the French community, and boy, they are even more angry than we are. So the other platforms just have to sit back and relax. Money will come heir way.

I don’t care that it kind of looks like **** and like some half baked fan club magazine from the mid-60’s but where the hell is the shuffle button now at the top of the playlists? I only see it for my favorites playlist but it seems to be removed from all the editor playlists. It’s super inconvenient to use now, esp in the car… I just check out amazon music’s app for the first time because of this debacle and there are shuffle buttons all the over the place!

@sentanti

I just can show you for iOS it’s still there and as far as I know Deezer is aware of the Android problem and will fix this with a further update.

Then there is the big one. I’m sure you guys saw it popping up….Where is Shuffle All My Favorites?! I don’t mean favorite tracks, I mean the entire library. I for one not really favoriting tracks. I add albums to favorites, and create stupid amounts of playlists from my monthly favorite albums. It was great because if I didn’t have an exact idea what to listen, I could throw in my monthly playlist (from january to october for example in this case) AND my other favorite albums (Oldies, or anything like that) and I got a pretty nice shuffle. Now, on Android...It’s gone. Poof. Nowhere to be found.

Yeah, this lack of shuffle button at the top of playlists is killing me! Like you I don’t care that much about the ugly redesign but this is a PITA to use now, esp in the car. I looked at Amazon music for the first time because of this and they literally have shuffle buttons all over the place. At the top for albums too, even right next to every song lol… Unfortunately, I paid for yearly for Deezer like an idiot.

I won’t even go to far on the purplish theme and the childish font being used (I am a boomer and discovered it’s very close to the font in Fortnite). The logo is ridiculous, it’s not a dating app, I’m in my forties and look like I’m hanging on Tinder looking for Spring Break friends that could be my kids.

bro, you are not even close to a boomer if you’re in your forties, you are a younger Gen-X or old millennial (Xennial) WTF

As much as I like Deezer, as much as I would appreciate to stay a Deezer member for another 10 years … stop that purple heart and font!!

It looks terrible, fully misses the design and vibe for a great Music app, looks like a dating site …
I do realise that Deezer must have spent a shit load of money creating this new image, external consultants and design office must have been making great money etc …  but it is your members paying that money for you!

I give you a full month to resolve/allow me to go back to the old design before going to Spotify!!

But seriously?? How can you justify a simple design change as a new way for people to “connect”. To me and everyone else it seems, it does absolutely nothing! It’s just a design that was completely unwanted and doesn’t even fulfill its purpose given by the company...

Uninstalled it the second I saw the now playing bar hovering needlessly and wasting my screen space, let alone every corner rounded because right angles aren't cool anymore, and the gross coloring, font, and icon.

I'm sick of this aesthetic, and I'm sick of lazy UI developers racing to implement their versions of it because their too afraid to be original. It's the equivalent of Corporate Memphis in app design.

I liked Deezer because it retained a more mature UI while Spotify dumbed its UI down and removed options. I came here to get away from this type of toxic, anti-user development mindset. The kind that believes they'll accept anything so take everything you like away from them. You don't have nearly enough brand loyalty to be taking options and usability away.

I rolled back to the previous version via APK and the second this version stops working is the day I cancel.

Good idea. Yeah that helps a lot. Of course the playlist covers are still ugly and have the font but good enough.

Userlevel 2

I went back to old version of the app and it’s way better but of course the playlist covers and some icons still look awful.

Userlevel 2

Option to switch to the old interface would help but not completely. You’d still see the ugly font in some cases like on the playlist covers and in the flow logo. Also, on the icons for “music quizzes” “podcasts” and all that. I know because I downgraded to an older android version. Still much more usable though while it works. I’m going back to YTM, I get it for free with premium anyway and it looks like they’ve made some improvements since I’ve been away.

I don 't like your new design . can I switch to the old one?

I have the same wish, but I suppose it won't be possible, time to say goodbye to Deezer after X years. Much more expensive than Spotify/Apple music and now the absolute ugliest.

Fire the designer who designed it or cut off his hands so he can never create anything like it again.

Please be respectful . Even if you don’t like the new design this is not the way we talk here .

It’s fucking HORRIBLE! Hey, Deezer idiots, stop! We aren’t 12 year-old girls! For God’s sake, the world has gone mad.

Please stay respectful . Even if you don’t like something this is not the way to talk to people .

I’m still hoping for a fix, since it’s present on webUI and the desktop app… Until then I started downloading a bunch of stuff, it’s not everything but at least I can shuffle all my downloads.

I don’t disagree that including a social element can be a nice additional feature. However, there have been bugs and feature requests related to playback, which haven’t been addressed for years.

Even worse for a hover state:

Yes! And why would I, a music lover who wants to talk to other music lovers, trust Deezer as a social platform? They just showed they’re willing to spring huge changes on their user base, ignore feedback, and condescend in their messaging. They want to give us fewer options, not more. They don’t understand what made this app special in the first place.

And by ‘they’, I mean the decision-makers. It’s clear that much of Deezer’s staff loves this project: their editors are awesome, support staff make a real effort to be international (despite the terrible regional licensing restrictions). Even the unlucky copywriter who had to defend the purple heart rebrand put in some real effort, and I feel really bad for them.

But there’s clearly a problem at the top. Maybe they’re entering the phase of ‘ensh*ttification’, as Cory Doctorow puts it. Maybe they’re just panicking. Whatever it is, it paints bad news, and it certainly doesn’t make me want to start making connections here.

I have no visual impairments and it’s not easy on the eyes for me… I can easily see how the app has become unusable for some people.
