After the announcement of the new logo and the new identity of Deezer, we took the time to read all your comments and feedback in order to address your concerns and understand your feelings

Opinions are very divided and several details were pointed out, including one that came up quite often: Why did you choose a heart šŸ’œ?
One comment cited ā€œthere is a more distant connection to music compared to the old logoā€

Ā

The beating purple heart simply represents love and passion for music. The shapes of the logo vary to signify musical rhythms. Its movement and pulsing quality directly reflect the essence of music and the human response to the listening experience, much like a heartbeat.
Ā

Another question was ā€œwhy did you decide to change everything/what is the purpose of this new identity?ā€

Deezer helps you ā€œbe and belong,ā€ going beyond streaming to empower fans, artists and partners to express themselves and connect through our products and services.

Refreshing our visual identity is essential as we enter this new era for Deezer. This allows us to connect emotionally with music fans, artists and strategists through visual cues that let people know that with Deezer they can experience music, not just listen to it.
Ā

ā€œThe choice to have prioritised this change was not the best, it would have been good to strengthen the user experience rather than degrade it.ā€

Satisfying our users experience is indeed crucial. Development and modification choices can be complex, which means that the change itself was so significant that some bugs crept in during this transition. All have been flagged by our developers and technicians, who are already fixing these errors.

Ā

The identity change will be present in all future app updates. We hope you will adopt the new design and enjoy the new Deezer experience.

We adopt this new identity with pride, and although not everyone likes it yet, we still hope to find a place in your hearts šŸ’œ.

Yes itā€™s tacky, yes itā€™s a cheap looking logo. A company logo is one of the most important things a company/organization can have, if the logo is not representing or getting what theĀ company/organization is all about then they would have failed to get the punter engaged with Deezer.

As regards the functionalityĀ of the UI I donā€™t have to many issues, except for the playlist column on the left hand side of the web app, this should be an optional choice to have.Ā

As subscribers we are ineffectively shareholders so Deezer should be very worried about the reaction this change is having to members of Deezer. The last thing they want is punters leaving in droves.

At the end of the day Itā€™s all about the musicā€¦...so lets keep this debate more about content and the engineering of the Deezer App.

Just a thought why doesnā€™t Deezer have competition to all members to create a new Logo voted in by all membersā€¦ā€¦.it canā€™t be that hard considering the logo they have come up with.Ā šŸ˜

Can anyone tell me if the new UI still has a way to change how a playlists content can be organized by song name or artist name, etc. Sorry, Iā€™m just an old IT challenged guy whoā€™s ticked off about the change in UI. Thanks

@coypuĀ I love the Idea of having a logo design competition.

Yes, this is still possible. My screenshots are in Dutch:

Ā

Ā

-Use the 3 dots in the right corner

Ā

Ā

-Use Sort (Sorteer)

Ā

Ā

-And now you can sort your playlist.

Please return playlist information on androidĀ

It was fixed in the recent update was on Friday . At least for me . Check if you have any updates available.Ā

Deezer still doesnā€™t get it. people PAY, Deezer needs to PLAY.nothing more. nothing ā€œsocialā€, nothing ā€œidentityā€

Me and many users left because we know you will stand by this. I rather give money to the competition that just plays music and isnt having an ā€œidentity crisisā€

Hope next shareholder meeting will show this was the right move for Deezer, but personally I think this might be your Bud Light.

Ā

I must say I donā€™tĀ agree. Social is part of the game thisĀ days . Social approach isĀ Ā available in almost every serviceĀ , even when itā€™s not related to music . While the brand got changed in terms of logo , colors and slogan you still have your music . No one took it away or will ever take it away . Deezer is still a music service but with the option to connect between music lovers .Ā

Ā

We are visual creatures and have different opinions about everything .
With new Deezer identity we was all surprised .As I can see after I read comments and feedback some of us was shocked and leave all bunch negative reactions .

If you ask me ,I like purple so I can say that I like purple heart and everything what is purple .
After few days as I play tracks on Deezer I used to a new design and almost forgot how was before .

Improvement which I suggest is on font of title of album or playlist .
If you don't want change font ,just get them smaller .

Anyway , this new Deezer identity is now main thing on which people talk about .

šŸ’œ

Are U sure you are into Purple ? BecauseĀ I couldnā€™t know that from your commentĀ šŸ¤£

OMG!Ā  THE HEART SUCKS. I also replaced the icon. It is offensive.

And, for something that claims it's ā€œseriousā€ about the music, the comic, funhouse design is a joke. Please tell me it's a joke. Please.

i donā€™t mind the purple theming but do prefer the old logo, really hate the font changes tho and the app (im on android) seems way buggier now...i do think their time would have been better spent fixing bugs that already existed and making long-standing requested improvements, idk maybe they wanted to redesign the ui first then implement that stuff but i really think they should have tested this release more thoroughly.

suspect this is a thing of wanting to pull in new & younger users with a cuter theme but imo working on stuff like discord integration would have gone further with that without simultaneously irritating the existing userbase

Updates like this are the reason I keep coming back to the idea of buying all my music, the only reason I havenā€™t already is thereā€™s no easy place to get everything.Ā  This isnā€™t as bad as what Spotify was pulling before I migrated from there, but it feels like itā€™s headed in that direction.

Itā€™s so ugly I started playing with the underlying .css. This is where the dreadful purple, magenta stuff is located. They called the theme ā€œChakraā€ internally.

Ā

Ā

My chakra broke the first time I saw this purple.

Work in progressā€¦ https://annuel2.framapad.org/p/stylus-deezer-old-school-a49z?lang=fr

I mean its pretty obvious even from the poll on this forum, apparently an astronomic 86% of the community thinks this is the worst design they have ever seenā€¦Ā so no matter how much you want to view it as such, your users arent ā€œdividedā€, really...Ā if we are being honest, your community seems to just straight up hateĀ it.Ā And that should really make you think, if sticking to the changes despite this feedbackĀ is the way to go, just because youā€™ve invested time and money in making the new look, and because backtracking always feels and looks badā€¦Ā in some situations, its perhaps better to cut your losses and trash the new project.

The logo, font and colour palette... though honestly to me they look like something somebody threw together in half an hour (personal opinion though, im not a designer), that isnt even the thing that IĀ dislike the most. The worst thing is that those changes,Ā combined with the changes to your UI, somehow make your app feel much less clear and intuitive, andĀ more cluttered and stuffyā€¦Ā even though perhaps the intentions were the complete opposite.Ā

I have quite a few friends who use deezerā€¦Ā everyone out of 10+ people strongly dislike the new look to a varying degree...Ā some are seriously considering switching to a different app, despite it being a hassle for them. And for the first time in many, many years, i am thinking about it myself.Ā This is ofcourse a small size sample, and as with everything I wrote, is an opinion. But opening the forums with the intent to write this post, and seeing all the topics made about it already...Ā IĀ feel itsĀ pretty representative.Ā

Its obvious that the intent of the changes are to attract a younger audience, nothing wrong with that.Ā But the specific way and changes that you chose, I wonderĀ if you wont in the long run be loosing much more than you are gaining.Ā IfĀ its not completely impossible from a technical point of view, even making the old UI available as a feature, would seem like a great solution.

I almost never botherĀ to write posts like this,Ā or even make an account on communities for apps i use.Ā But ive been with Deezer for almost 10 years nowā€¦ and I felt that the changes are abysmal enough, that i have to write something.Ā I doĀ love the app, I love the way it introduces me to new music, and IĀ I love the featuresĀ that have made me choose Deezer over other similar apps through the years.Ā So i really hope this isnt going to be the long term bad decision for the app that it feels like it is at the moment.Ā

Whatever your long term vision is for the app, dont forget that its your users who decide if thats what they want to pay for. Hopefully you dont learn that lesson the hard way.Ā

All the best,Ā

long time user

@ybruyĀ The new identity will be present in all future updates and it is not possible to switch to the old logo.
Thanks :)Ā

OMG I think I'm too much into PupleĀ šŸ˜‚

Ā

On the bright side, nobody else likes it either!Ā

If you value your users, you roll back this uninvited surprise act asap. Bad user experience, offensive look, wrong associations. Listen to your users or perish, itā€™s that simple.

We're glad you decided to do without paying and long-time users, so goodbye ...

Remove the auto scrolling from everywhere in the app, it's annoying that I can't put the list of songs in the position I want.

This.

I actually unpinned the app from my task bar since I screen share a lot with collegues and clients. I don't want people to think I have some dating app open, or even worse some p*rn site.Ā

Iā€™ve already cancelled my subscription and transferred to Tidal - no way was I going to use this horrific app on a daily basis. Iā€™m even paying less now :)

I think you might be expecting this answer but I am afraid you canā€™t change the font.
ThanksĀ
