A Punch and a Kiss
It's impossible not to imagine Billie and her brother Finneas in a laboratory preparing a modern drug and us entering an experiment as guinea pigs. Each track of the new album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” is a musical journey, blending raw emotion with innovative beats, and @Fabio.Deezer our BR Community Manager tell us everything about it.
In SKINNY, Billie once again subtly relates the difficulties of fame and body image.
LUNCH, one of the siblings’ big bets, makes clear a sexual taste that Billie hid for some time or was just not prepared to open up to the world.
In CHIHIRO, the striking and very present beats reinforce the siblings' brand of “chill-out music” when we listen.
But what makes the album even more cohesive are the songs that seem to be two songs in one. Changing the melody in the middle of the song is something very present in their work.
This technique is very noticeable in THE GREATEST, where Billie starts softly with her whispered voice and in the middle comes a storm, the voice gains weight, everything moves towards a thunderous, strong and poetic peak.
Another song that brings this feeling of sudden change is L’AMOUR DE MA VIE, at minute 3:38 the beats start to grow and you think: OMG is that another song? Nah.
Lots of pulsing guitar and bass elements and sometimes Billie's distorted voice make everything seem so experimental and perfectly executed by the siblings.
With the feeling of having been punched, crying, screaming and ending with a sweet kiss “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” could not have another name.
