Information about iOS requirements for Deezer app

I read it was possible to get Deezer from iOS 8 and up (https://www.deezer.com/us/devices/mobile), so I decided to buy an iPod 5 which supports iOS 9.3.5, but when I go to get the app from the appstore it says I need iOS10, which is a bummer. Did this change recently and the webpage is outdated? Or is there another way to install Deezer on iOS 9?
Thanks in advance

Hi there, I am afraid you are right, our website is outdated, thanks a lot for pointing this out. Deezer requires iOS10 for the app to work. I have passed this on and it should be corrected soon ;)

In general it is always good to keep up with iOS in any case, once a new one has been launch we do not support older once anymore should there be any problem.

UPDATE: this has now been fixed 😉
Thank you for making me waste money...
I've recently purchased a Deezer subscription. It works fine on all my devices, save the one I kind of got it for: an old third gen iPad, which I use mostly as a media device while working. Since this model only goes up to iOS 9.3.5, I can't install the Deezer app on it, as that requires iOS 10. There's no older version of Deezer available in the app store.

I thought I'd get around this by simply using the Deezer website through Safari. However, after logging in, rather than being able to access my music, the website conveniently redirects me to a page telling me to download the app store version, and it does so on every other major browser I can run on this ancient beast. Is there any way around this, or am I just going to have to take the loss?
Why is it not possible to simply use the Deezer website on iOS devices? All it does is redirect you to a page telling you to download the app after logging in. Being able to use the website to access your music library on iOS devices would alleviate the issue with the app not working on older iOS versions.

it's the intended functionality to ensure the best possible user experience, but we are happy to pass this feedback on to the right team 🙂

How is taking away the option to use the service the best possible user experience? Even when using the desktop version of the website on iOS-compatible browsers, I can't use Deezer, because the play buttons do nothing. Audio files and embedded videos play just fine on other websites, but when clicking the play button on the Deezer website, nothing happens. The animations will play, but that's about it. No audio and a static progress bar for the song that can't be interacted with. Changing audio settings also doesn't do anything.

Is this an issue with how the website functions, or a deliberate choice by Deezer? Because it's really frustrating having to work around seemingly arbitrary restrictions just to get a paid service to work.

HI @Tomatough that is strange, on which browser is this happening please? Have you enabled HTML5?
HI @Tomatough that is strange, on which browser is this happening please? Have you enabled HTML5?

There does not appear to be an option to enable HTML5 on the desktop version of of Deezer's website on any iOS 9.3.5-compatible browser that's officially supported by Deezer. Firefox won't work, as Mozilla no longer offer an iOS 9.3.5 app, and the HTML5 option is missing on the website in Safari and Chrome. There's no cog icon next to the 'My Music' tab to acces any settings, there's nothing under Audio, and it's not under account settings either. HTML5 media playback on other sites works fine. It's just the Deezer website I'm having trouble with.

I've tried Safari, Chrome, Dolphin, Opera Mini and Puffin. Tellingly, audio playback only worked on the Puffin web browser, the only one to natively support Flash. It would appear the site defaults to flash playback rather than HTML5, with (seemingly) no option to manually switch to HTML5. I'm no expert, but that seems fairly easy to fix. It's certainly not ideal to not be able to play audio on the website of an audio-focused service, especially when you can't use the dedicated app.

Hi @Tomatough I am sorry, I must have gotten wrong what you mean. You cannot use Deezer in browser on mobile I am afraid. You have to use the Deezer app. There is no way to use any browser on smart phones and tablet. Like my colleague said we want you to have the best experience and we do not offer the service on browser, only on computer 😉

But it does work. It just seems that you forgot to make the site automatically use HTML5 instead of Flash on these iOS-compatible browsers, and you didn't implement a way to manually change to HTML5 as far as I can tell. Don't tell me an issue is a feature, because that's being dishonest. It's just poor design. There's no "best experience" in restricting usage of the service on standard browsers when there's absolutely no reason to do so.

I'm very understanding of technical issues, because these things happen. Ensuring compatibility for older software and devices is not always easy. That said, if you're going to disguise this as 'it's what's best for you' when that's clearly not the case, you've lost me. If you want to connect to the community, doublespeak is not the way to go.
The first message in this thread appeared a month ago, but it is also impossible to download Deezer for iOS 9. Chromecast is poorly supported by Deezer, music is played intermittently. I thought it would work out with air play, but here again the problem. What to do, Search for another service?

Hi @Sergey.K this thread was created a while ago, sometimes it takes some time to update as we have our internal processes, but it should be updated soon. As mentioned above our iOS app works only from iOS 10 and above. There is nothing we can do about that.

If you are having problems with Chromecast please comment the relevant topics for that and indicate which devices you are using and which version of the app you have installed ;)

Please note that Air Play is a very different technology.
Hi,

The IPad Mini iOS no longer support the app. I tried from the web. I am being asked to download the app...

Hi there, you will need iOS 10 for the app to work, you cannot use the browser on tablets for Deezer. So as long as you have iOS10 installed you will be able to use the app to play Deezer 😉
I have an old Ipod and now it will not work as I get a pop up message - To make the most of Deezer on your mobile, update your application now. No update for this version and I stayed with Deezer because it works on this Ipod. Regardless of supporting it, if it works do not require an update that will require me to purchase a new player.

Hi there @brunson77

Sorry to hear that. Please see this topic for more info on iOS compatibility.

Although deezer now only works for ios 10 I found that if you go to your app store and scroll through your purchases you can update if from there. It then comes up with a message that the update is not compatible with your ipad s ios (in my case 9.3) and would you like to download an older version. When you agree to this it then downloads deezer and you can use it as normal. Have done this with all my other apps I previously had on my last ipad and they all work fine. Know this may not help everybody but stopped my frustations at not being able to download deezer just because I had older equipment (ipad 2)

Hi @Davyboy31 that is correct. Thank you for your comment, I just marked it as best solution

To all of you: It is possible to download an older Deezer version if that previous version has been downloaded on that same device at some point before. Unfortunately, Apple does not give access to previous versions of an app when they have never been downloaded before.

In case the previous Deezer version was installed on another of your iOS devices at some point, you can simply log in with the same Apple ID and retrieve it from there. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi @Pia.Deezer and @Davyboy31  , is the solution described above (by daviboy31) still working? It doesn’t work with my 9.3.5 OS I pad and I was wondering why. I managed to install a different app this way, but not the deezer app. Any ideas?

Hey @AndiAdams

Thanks for reaching out to us.

We currently support, as per guidance from Apple, iOS 12 or later.

Well, I found the reason why it didn’t work in my case (it still works). Nevertheless, I think you should review your support policy as a lot of people I know use older devices for playing music only or (in my case) having a not so expensive device that my kid can use.

We do that for Android @AndiAdams because the developers of the OS allow us to.

With Apple, it's their recommendation, so it isn't a Deezer choice :thumbsup_tone2:

And yes, it still works, but if you remove it, you won't be able to download it again. I have an old iPad with a vintage Deezer app too

it is very frustating. i have a iphone 4s that my daughter uses only for music, and it simply stoped login in. now she cries all the time she opens the phone that all here music is gone.

why cant you deezer keep the old versions working???

Hey @kdkd you can download and older version adn keep listening to Deezer doing the following on your iPhone :

- Go to AppStore
Updates -> account (tapping on profile picture on the top corner right)
- Tap on "Purchased"
- Select the filter "Not on this iPhone"
- Find Deezer in the list and download !

Let me know if that works :nerd:

I just really don’t get this. This solution simply does not work. So what that means, is that I am pushed alllllll the way back to the stoneage. Option1: Get the VPN, go to the Piratebay via TOR, illegally download the music and then transfer it to the iPod of my daughter. Option 2: Jailbreak the iPod, find the old installation files in some dark corner of the internet and install them. Yet the only thing I want to do is stream music legally via Deezer. How is that “the best user experience”? Just build a “Deezer light” app that supports older versions and tell apple to stick there advice where the sun don’t shine.
