Private collaborative playlists

Currently, if you make a playlist collaborative it is necessarily public. This appears to make it so that *anyone* can add tracks if they chose to. I would prefer to be able to make a playlist collaborative, but only editable by people who I share it with directly (and preferably only visible to them as well).

I consider this not only a usability issue, but also a trust & safety issue, since someone could be targeted for harassment by having their collaborative playlists spammed.

Hi @repeatrepeat This is a really important point—thank you for bringing it up!

The ability to make collaborative playlists editable and visible only to specific people would improve usability.

I’ll pass this feedback along to the team!

Hi,

Is there any update on this feature? Is it on the roadmap for the near future at least?

It’s a shame one can’t currently create list with their partner or with friends without having to share it (and make it editable) by everyone!

It needs to be a basic feature. I am amazed that this isn't possible. I can understand playlists being public to view, but I only want my duo member to be able edit the playlist. Ideally they would be fully private to my family/duo members. This is very important to me and if it doesn't get resolved then I will have to find another service. I won't pay for a service that doesn't provide this feature, I would rather just have one account. Deezer has made it more difficult to have multiple devices using the same account (fair enough) but not provided a solution to this problem. This is a crucial feature for the service. It's a safety issue. Playlists created that a suitable for a family can have anyone in the world add inappropriate songs to. Fix it fast!

Deezer offers the Shaker feature which can work as an alternative for collaborative playlists, as only invited members of the Shaker group can edit their playlists.

I've been using Deezer since 2011 and never heard of Shaker. Thanks for the suggestion, I just read about it and can see that it's not the solution to the problem.

As someone who is evaluating alternatives to Spotify in order to switch, being able to curate private playlists with my friends is an important feature I’m looking for. I use this type of playlist to:

  • Have everyone contribute a mix for long car trips
  • Have a record of songs that are significant to our relationships, so a kind of timeline of events we had together
  • Have an easy way to share songs with one another - it’s much easier to add a bunch of songs to a playlist than sharing multiple links that everyone else has to open and add to their own playlists.

It’s currently the one feature that I feel is missing for Deezer to be a Spotify-replacement for me, I would greatly enjoy it. =)
