Hi everyone,
I’ve decided to give Deezer a try because a really like the focus on quality. I’ve been a die hard Spotify user for idk how long, but I’d really like to move.
If only the (desktop) UI wouldn’t s*** that much - sorry for the expletive:
- No bulk select for playlist items: Seriously? A feature request for a most basic UI feature ever is open for years??? Do you really expect me to manually select every song individually, e.g. if I decide to remove a whole album from the playlist? You got to be kidding
- No way to add a whole album to a playlist: Kind of the reverse feature, made worse because again I have to select each item individually. Aaaaargh!
- Can’t disable the “Do you really want to remove these items” notification: Sorry, this is UI/UX 101 - if you provide such a dialog, you really need to give users the option to silence those requests for the future. I do know what I’m doing. BTW the dialog looks like it has been designed by a three year old….
- Unable to resize the columns in the playlist view and no tooltips on hover: I listen to a lot of classical music, where titles tend to be long and often the important imformation comes at the end. Made worse because the title is also truncated in the player. Come on, at least let it scroll through the viewport.
- Just noticed - is there really no way to clear the “wait list” (or whatever it’s called in english)? I accidentally added like 500 titles to it. How do I get rid of them? No bulk select there, either.
- BTW, it would be soooo nice if I could change the language of the UI.
In addition, search is also abysmal, at least for classical music:
- I’ve had multiple instances now where I’d get a search result, but when I navigate to the album, the respective titles are not visible. My solution has been to search the albums in Spotify, add them to a playlist there, transfer the playlist et voila. Because sure enough, those titles do exist in the catalogue.
- It is incredibly hard, or maybe I’m to stupid to search for more complex items. E.g. if I want to, say, listen to Duet or Duo and then a lot of information I don’t know, but e.g. I do know the opus number and also the composer, it’s basically impossible or completely random. Something like TITLE=(Duo .* op. 80) & COMPOSER=(Arensky) - make it a power search or whatever.
I realize Spotify or Amazon Music are in no way better. However, with the focus on High Quality Audio, I would expect that also a lot of classical music aficionados could be interested, and this would be THE chance to really excel. With such an abundant catalogue it’s really soooo helpful to have a powerful search, too. I often want to listen to a very specific recording, but actually for a lot of titles right know I would be glad if I could find any recording at all.
Maybe the UI is better in the mobile apps, however I’m not interested in using a smartphone app when I want to listen on my desktop. So I haven’t tried, and given that this is obviously the standard, very limited electron app stuff, I won’t hold my breath.
I realize that I’m probably not in the target group for this app and so I’m sorry for the rant, apparently it is fashionable to have an algorithm select the music for you and not bother with any decent management functions at all. I could live with the search limitations, but the amount of UI bloopers in playlist/title/album management are a no go for me and are not compensated for by HQ audio.
