I have a hard time finding recommendations for Soca music as it isn’t listed as a genre as far as I can tell. This makes it a bit hard to find singles/artist/albums outside of the ones that I already know. It seems to get grouped in with Reggae or lost in a no-man-zone. There are millions within the Caribbean and diaspora who I am sure would really appreciate the acknowledgement
Update: Soca actually gets grouped in the ‘Latin’ genre which is even more difficult because 98% of soca is performed in English and the Spanish Caribbean have a completely different culture.
For those that don’t know what soca is, think Trinidad Carnival (T&T), Notting Hill Carnival (London), Caribana (Toronto), Crop Over (Barbados), and various Caribbean carnivals throughout the eastern seaboard in particular of the US.
