Missing Many Features

Really wanted to switch to Deezer, but there’s not really a benefit other than ethical from Spotify, feature wise it’s much worse experience, would totally switch if it was closer with the features. Just wanted to share my notes that I took for myself in case they can inspire further product development, I’ve made a note to check back on new features in a year from now, thanks for making Deezer :) Some of these are minor of course and not that important.

✓ Shazam does work with Deezer, even though not advertised that much

✓ Songkick does work for Deezer as well suprisingly

✓ Light mode is so chill and bright / airy

✓ Customize sections on home page (not on Desktop though)

✓ Favorite button in iOS audio pop up

✕ No folders, basically a dealbreaker

✕ The bottom navigation is not aligned and off on iOS

✕ Desktop app has bunch of weird design decisions, doesn’t feel polished

✕ Favorites is top level in sidebar but then is also a playlist, Spotify uses the term Library which makes a lot more sense

✕ Top tracks on artist page on iOS is super weird, not in a list format

✕ Tap into a playlist it doesn’t show you the playlist in list format on iOS

✕ No Raycast extension, but someone could probably make easily

✕ App doesn’t remember zoom level upon quit and reopen

✕ No CMD+K command bar shortcut

✕ Can’t change width of sidebar to see full playlist names

✕ Sleeve app does not support for Mac OS, even if set to ‘Automatic’ for audio source

✕ Doesn’t seem to work with Mac Media Key Forward to use the keyboard controls nicely

Not seeing a list in the playlist on iOS think was a free version thing, cause once I signed up for free trial it worked as you’d expect. But this wasn’t advertised on the Paid plan page as a feature that you get.

Also, doesn’t seem to sync with iPhone app, there’s a song playing on Mac desktop, and it’s shown as being the current song on iOS but it’s not playing, so the action on iOS is to tap play but it’s already playing on desktop.

Everyone has to decide what is most important for them in a streaming service, for me it currently is blocking AI-generated content automatically from Deezer playlists and my recommendations.

I don’t see Spotify offering that in the future, they seem to fill my main weekly playlists Release Radar and Discover Weekly with more and more of that stuff, and I have to waste time now to check them in Deezer for AI-generated albums. Today I found eight of them in my new Release Radar, most of them already blocked by me for several weeks on their artist pages and per track to exclude them from my recommendatons, but Spotify does not care about that and keeps recommending them to me.
