Question

Is there any way to access downloads while using Android Auto?

This seems like such a basic thing but I cannot for the life of me find how to access downloads in Android Auto. I figured it'd be under "favorites" like it is in the app but it just doesn't show up. This seems like a huge oversight? Driving is when I most want to stick to downloads so I can save on data charges.

Hey there @Misterros94 Android Auto and CarPlay are both designed to block or reduce access to features that take your eyes off the road, such as browsing long lists, video playback, or complex menus, especially while the vehicle is moving. I found this to be the case with every service I tried.

Not every feature that exists in your streaming app on the phone is allowed in the AA and CarPlay version; developers must follow app guidelines, which limit what UI elements and interactions are permitted while driving.

I agree that downloads are at their most useful in the driving situation and, to that end, I create playlists specifically for that purpose, and start the playlist before taking off (just as I do with setting navigation, etc.). Skips, volume, etc. are all available while driving, and in the infrequent times I need to get back into my phone, I just grab a bit of curb.

Enjoy your music.

Thanks @GropplerZorn for the input, totally agree AA needs to be an experience that keeps eyes on the road. Regardless though, I see no reason that playlists and liked songs would be available but not Downloads. It should be front and center as one of the few options offered.

How I do it in YT Music is that I navigate to my downloads and choose a downloaded playlist before hitting the road. At the moment in Deezer I am having to do a roundabout of doing it all on the phone with using AA at all.

It's not a huge inconvenience to do it on the phone, but as mentioned I find no reason Downloads can't be one of the few things offered to filter by in AA. It's no more dangerous to have in AA than basic playlists. Thanks again for your comment!
