How do I disable auto-play of unwanted suggested music?

@GropplerZorn
I left Spotify because of the ICE ads. That was the final straw. I came here because you don’t offer music videos (YT-Music did not have a feature that let me turn off video access for my children, who do not need videos in their music app).

As for this feature, I just don’t see why we don’t have the option to stop autoplay. Maybe I want the suggested list (Spotify suggestions and song radio were pretty awful, maybe Deezer is better) and maybe sometimes I just want to play a single song once and then have silence until I choose a new song. This actually happened to me yesterday as I was working, when my mother sent me a song and suggested I listen. I did and got back to work, at which point it started playing more stuff. And while it isn’t difficult to jump back to the tab and pause the music, I shouldn’t have to.

I then learned of a new issue that after playing the requested song, sometimes asking it to play the song again didn’t restart the chosen song, but just pressed play on wherever it was in the list. Which makes no sense honestly.

Whatever the case, it shouldn’t be this difficult to add the option to toggle off the generative playlist. Spotify has this, it’s a simple toggle on the play screen.

@heirtopendragon sounds like you have a choice to make. you can support Spotify and ICE, allow your children access to media with no oversight, or find a way to be comfortable with deezer’s queuing system

again, best of luck with whatever you choose, and enjoy your music

 Three years later and still like this?  How can anyone think people want to hear random songs when they have a playlist they made specificlly with songs they like.  If i want to try other songs then i will listen to a suggested mix

Hello @geenzo,

if you connect via browser and open the queue you will see a “Automated Recommendations” button.

Make sure that’s deactivated.

Let me know!

Thanks, took me a while to find the Queue though!

This is astounding.
A really simple and obvious requirement - to NOT get tracks running on to some semi-arbitary other playlist - is not available on the mobile version? WHAT??? That’s insane, incredible, and totally stupid.
AND it’s available on the desktop app???? Eh??? Do Deezer have two completely different development teams?
As for the idea that you somehow should not use the “search” facility if you don’t want this… jaw drops open.
Really, really disappointed Deezer. As many otherwise loyal Deezer users have pointed out here, this really annoying “feature” provides significant encouragement to explore alternatives more actively. So, so sad.

So I have a similar issue, similar enough that I believe it’s just a different side of the same coin. I could even understand the idea to discover new tracks during search (if it was possible to turn this off, of course), but what if I want to listen to a specific artist only?

Let’s say I want to listen to Scorpion songs. The most prominent button is “Mix”:

And if I click it, I’ll usually get one song from Scorpions, and then - some random song from the algorithm.

The workaround is to go to Top Tracks, and start playing these - but that list is only around 100 songs. WAY less than Scorpion’s total.

And it appears that the amount of tracks counted as “top tracks” is actually inconsistent across artists, possibly reliant on some internal metrics how popular some song is. The result being, some artists, despite having several full-length albums, only have five top tracks available (i.e. Deathless Legacy).

So HOW do I listen to my favorite artist, if I’m in mood to binge them?

In some cases the imperfect workaround would be to rely on playlists like “100% X” or “All X songs”, but first, it’s not available for every artist, second - I would have to rely those are kept updated, and not abandoned.

And yes, I could manually add album by album, single by single, or create custom playlist. But why do I have to fight with streaming service, when I want to stream music?

The funny thing is, mobile version /android/ does not prominently feature the “Play Mix” button. Instead, there is only the “Play” (triangle in a circle) button, that starts playing… top tracks.

Does Deezer even have any UX specialist on the team, that would oversee that mess? Because it is mess, make no mistake.

Anyway, I’m trying Deezer now as I got super annoyed by Spotify’s feeding me AI Slop on every turn, but I must admit, at this time I’m not sure which is more irritating.

@SuffolkTyke

Do Deezer have two completely different development teams?

It does indeed appear to be the case, yes. One example is what I shared above, another I just found - it appears you can’t change language on desktop app. It even says so specifically - language changed in web version will not be changed in the app. Why? Why can you change it in web, ios and android, but not desktop app? Who knows.

I too want no mixes started when listening to a song. I sometimes feel like listening to a particular song once, and nothing else. Offering workarounds instead of making it an option to me is inexcusable.

My trial ends in few days, and I will not be staying. I used Deezer for some two weeks, and this time was one of the most frustrating experiences with any app so far. I quite often genuinely felt as if developers tried their very best to make the UI as confusing, annoying and burdensome as possible. Like really, I couldn’t make it so bad even if I tried.

And that’s too bad, because I really, really, REALLY wanted to like it, given that Deezer is the only one doing something about AI slop in music. But my frustration level from interacting with that… challenged… UI is way higher than AI Slop managed to raise it so far.

And I could accept it if it were some new app, early access kinda situation, and devs were responsive, new fixes often pushed to production etc.; but from what I can see, the team just knows better and either offers some platitudes or outright ignores feedback for years - so I don’t think there is any point in staying and paying for subpar service.
