Gapless Playback on desktop app

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

To reiterate:

“Gapless playback” is when certain tracks within an album have no pause between them when one track ends and the next one starts. Some music genres like prog and electronic stuff rely heavily on this feature and mix their albums as one continuous track, and it is instrumental (no pun intended) for proper listening experience. For examples try Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon or Colors by Between the Buried and Me. This is not the same thing as crossfade as some people on forums suggest as an alternative. The lack of this basic feature means that the app is unusable for people who lean heavily into genres utilizing this technique, they cannot listen to their favorite albums on your platform as the lack of gapless breaks the experience. And since desktop app might be the go-to way to experience Deezer on a stationary device, your business loses a swathe of customers.

Now the problem is that Deezer has Gapless on Android, iOS and in web player, but still does not have one in their windows app. Not sure about other desktop systems but here we are. Some time ago someone mentioned that Deezer desktop app is on life support and the company is ditching it but now we have a full redesign of the platform and a new updated desktop app. Still no goddamn gapless playback.

Ideas thread with 6 years worth of comments and upvotes is ignored, no updates on the feature whatsoever. There are workarounds to get gapless on desktop but that’s doing hoops to get what everyone considers to be the basic music player functionality. Even web player, which is pretty much a copy of desktop app in terms of UI has gapless but not the damn app.

It makes me unreasonably mad and I am probably a clown for making such a long ramble of a post, but I want to hijack the increased forum activity due to the redesign releaseand just try to get some attention from Deezer staff. At least tell me that you won’t work on it so I can stop reinstalling the app every month to see if you finally made it.

Thanks for your honest feedback @PotatoOverlord. I am not a developer myself and I don’t have an immediate answer to your question about Gapless and Desktop app.
I’ll contact our developers and as soon as I hear back from them I’ll update you.
Thanks for your patience :)

When I play an “album” it should sound like the album. No question.

@Jaime. Any update on this? I have been looking forward to gapless playback from Deezer for a long time.

@Jaime.Deezer any update on this please?

Surely 1 year on the developers have replied? Even if it is with “We aren’t planning on fixing this because…”

Even a negative answer is better than being ignored.

Its bizarre that gapless works on a browser but not on the app.

I have left Spotify because they are very good at ignoring their customers, I wasn’t expecting Deezer to be the same.

The lack of progress on this issue is why I will not be subscribing to Deezer once my one-month trial ends.

It boggles the mind that this feature isn’t already in there - a long time ago. I have been clicking around for a while now before I did a web search and came here.

How about Deezer setting their AI research on hold for a whole 5 minutes and implements this ASAP?
