Why does Chromecast not work?

As an update to my question, I can confirm that after installing the latest Deezer update (7.03.43) this morning, my Chromecast Audio works once again. However, my Gen 1 Chromecast (cast firmware: 1.36.159268) still doesn't work. The symptoms are the same as before - Deezer app says it's connecting, just a few more seconds, then times out after 60 seconds. The Chromecast appears to be triggered, but the screen stays black and Deezer doesn't start on it. It too times out and reverts to its screen saver after about a minute. 

 

@Yula Can you please get an update from the developers on this?

I've already answered these questions but will do so again…

 

1st Chromecast device: Chromecast (1st gen)  —  Firmware version 1.36.157768

I believe it's been on this firmware version since last fall

 

​​​​​​2nd Chromecast device: Chromecast Audio, Cast firmware: 1.56.281627

I think the firmware version was updated around the beginning of the year. It was in this version before casting stopped working. 

Both are Google-branded dongles, not built into something else. 

No error message, it just never connects and times out trying after maybe 30 seconds. 

 

 

Deezer version 7.0.2.75 on Android 12 (although it stopped working maybe 3 months and several releases ago at this point). Casting from Deezer web on both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work either. The message that comes up there after timing out is "Unable to cast www.deezer.com.", then after 1 minute "Failed to cast. Please try again". My phone, computers and other devices can cast to these devices using every other app, it's only Deezer casting that doesn't work. 

Because casting via web doesn't work anymore either I have to assume this is a back-end issue and not related to the Android app itself.

Hi. My LG WK7 speaker with built-in Google Assistant (cast firmware version 1.36.157053) no longer plays any music from Deezer. I ask it to play music, it says it will, and then nothing happens. This has been the case since about February this year. Before then it was fine. Is this a Deezer problem? Thanks.

Hey there all,

as I said on another thread, we can not reproduce the issue so it all seems good on our side. 

To be able to investigate this further, we need you to answers these questions: 

  • Brand and Model of the device where you can't cast
  • (If possible) screenshot of the error message
  • Was it working before? Did you notice that it stopped working after some update from OS, Deezer app or firmware of the device?
  • Deezer version, OS version
  • If it is Chromecast external device or Chromecast built-in
  • In case it is built-in what version it is: V1,V2,V3

 Can you try to cast from other devices like laptops, mobile phones, tablets… ?

So this is really upsetting, streaming via Chromecast again doesn't work. Tomorrow it might be, and in a week it won't be? I was happy to go back to Deezer, despite all the shortcomings because the sound quality seems better than Tidal, but the functioning of via Chromecast is a lottery.

So I bought the new streamer Cambridge Audio CXN and Deezer on this device via Chromecast works without any problem... I now still have Deezer prepaid and also Tidal and that is why I compared the two services-> Tidal has Tidal Connect, gapless, forming the via Chromecast queue, correct album release years and label names, playlist folders and is cheaper in my country. Unfortunately, Deeezer has a lot of faults and shortcomings BUT I have to admit truthfully that it sounds  better, clearer, cleaner on my apparatus more then Tidal..And the quality of the stream is very important to me. The menu is also clearer. I'm going to have a tough decision...

Deezer fix this issue with Chromecast. It’s been over more than 2 months now and this is just absurd. People pay for your Hifi quality streaming service but what good is it when it doesn’t work?

I got  message from Yula, that this problem is not a priority for them.. 🤷

 

"We have reported it, but our product team is in the middle of other projects and we have pushed it as much as we could.
Unfortunately, it is not a priority now.
If you send a mail to our Support they will add you to the list of users that are affected and you will receive an email when it's fixed.
The more people we can link to the incident the more it will become a priority."

I get your point. This is also because of the different answers we get (in 1 day??) on our (many) inquirys. Depends on which person from Deezer reponds. I tried to delete the previous one but that is not possible. If you know how to, please tell me.

Are you sure. I talk about this issue yesterday with help center. They said me that are working on the problem.

They are working on it… and hoping someday it will be fixed. But this will not be in the near future. In our case they put the blame on Harman Kardon. That is not the case. So in the end Deezer was so honoust to wish me will and maybe in the future someday sometime when Deezer will eventually fix it….then we will think about it to return to Deezer. The only reason for us would be that Spotify only has mainstream artists, Deezer has more the alternative music. But more and more artists are to be found on Spotify so for now we changed to a free Deezer account to play ‘on the road’ and Spotify at home. Hope this answers your question. 😊

What? Unbelievable!!! Instead of improving its services, Deezer is totally degrading it. No moving forward, many shortcomings that no one can address. My patience has reached its peak and I'm off to Tidal, which is better at many things. farewell. Bye. Big disappointment.

In this period I’m checking chromecast integration with Spotify and I have to say that work very fine.

I can control my queue and I can add more song to the queue. And very important, I never lost connection between app and devices.

with deezer all of this it’s impossible and I always lost the connection, also for the devices that at moment work with deezer.

I tried yesterday evening and I still had the issue
