Hello,

I’m used to playing Deezer flow through Sonos.

I face two “issues”:

  1. It is not an infinite flow, as it always ends after something like a hundred songs (There are 2000 marked as favourite).
  1. It is a little annoying since flow seems to follow always the same sequence, sometimes adding new tracks.

Yes, Flow could be better. Also I do not like when flow plays 90’s dance or pop dance music.

If I listen certain pop track, doesn’t mean I want it and similar flow, or something.

Today it played DJ Bobo, and never in my life I listened anything 90’s pop dance on Deezer.

I also do not like to ban tracks, as I do not dislike any music, but do not want it to play either.

Also it is not very practical to keep 1 000 000 tracks or artists banned.

The heart, broken heart (dislike) and default/no heart selection would do much better.

Sure thing @gdr thanks for the rightful words here.

The thing with Flow, so that you know, is that it's constantly worked on. We focus a lot on the recommendations, which may vary a lot depending on the user. There are some improvements in the pipeline, so I'll add your comments to the mixture - like I said to you just now, on another topic, 2021 is the year where we want to focus on getting basics right, rather than developing many new features :thumbsup_tone2:

Good day.

I am Deezer Premiere user for 6 months.

Flow was indeed a joke on first day, but eventually not only FLOW did learn, but I as well.

So how FLOW exactly works?

Some repetition is expected. It wants to play from new stuff to classics and from that to songs you never heard of in the long time. How you provide a lesson for a FLOW? Skip tracks you do not like, ban tracks you hear too often and they are not related. Like as much tracks as possible.

Avoid to listen music you normally do not listen long term. And what I mean by that?

Let’s say you listen classical and jazz music most of the time.

If you want to listen sometimes rap music, do not listen it each day a bit. Listen it one day a bit in week. This is how I listen rap and r&b music without affecting my flow too much, thanks.

This GUARANTEES your flow will not be affected long term, instead short term.

FLOW is constantly learning. Nothing is perfect as well.

Please do keep discovering your musical journey on Deezer, I promise flow do get better over time.

Especially in 2021, now when Rudi finally announced it.

And please do not forget to live your best life

No we won’t roll out Flow 2.0 the way it was tested, but your feedback was used to create all new improvements on your Flow...

Sorry Deezer Guys, but the same answer again,  “we pass it to the development team” since two years, and the same issue rises. Sorry, don’t take it personal, but this seems to me a “copy paste” uniform bullshit answer.

Same problem in my case as well. For example I love the band Rage. I’d be happy to hear their songs, but Flow passes only one song to me always. Almost in the same order any time. I alredy hate listening to Flow. People here seem to be very patient But I have changed your concurrence to Deezer 2 years ago for the same reason: the dayli and the weekly recomendations did not change. In that time they lost a lot of costumers and if you only promise changes but nothing happens you’ll loose too. At least me and my family, but I’m sure more is already gone and more will leave.

I agree that the Flow algorithm needs work and that it has needed work for 2+ years.  I've followed this chat over that period as has been suggested and aside from promises it is being worked on nothing appears to happen, similar to another chat I have been monitoring with similarly ineffective resolution.  I still believe that this should be easy to fix - if the algorithm can learn your favourites and indeed exclude tracks why on earth can't it select more tracks more randomly rather than repeating the same small percentage of my favourite tracks and ignoring the others?

Thanks @Rudi. To add to my idea, I think it would be good to add customisation options for your Flow, for example:

  • “No Repeat” period:
    1 day 1 week 1 month

(songs that were last played during this period will not show in this Flow)

  • “Favourited” ratio:
    5

(the ratio of Favourited songs to non-Favourited songs played in the Flow, e.g. every 5th song is one that I’ve already Favourited. 4/5 songs are “new”)

These options could be put under the Preferences section of the Settings menu. Maybe create a new item called Flow.

Spot on @hpguru

I really like your suggestions @maxkshaw we've got some customisation improvements to be added to Flow this year, so let's see what you think of them, when they come :relaxed:

Problem! - Reaction! - Solution! 😊👍

Try out my brand new app, called SkipTracks, that I have just released on Google Play. Sorry, there is no Apple version.

I hope that SkipTracks helps with these problems. If you would like me to add new features to the app, or even if you find something that doesn't work on SkipTracks please don't hesitate to contact me directly, via the email link on the Google play store.

Hey @maxkshaw I don’t have a clue about coding and developing so I am not sure if the fix involves juts a couple on lines of code.
However, if you are experiencing this problem on a daily basis, please let me know and I can contact our devs in order to check your Flow on their side to make sure what’s going on.
Thanks and apologies for any inconvenience.

This problem is corrected by two lines of code.

Exactly. It would be so simple to fix...

I’m glad this is finally being recognised. It’s crazy that the devs haven’t done anything about it yet. Perhaps they don’t personally use Deezer for their music needs?

Is it normal to have several tracks repeated way too frequently when you are in the Flow feature?Hi Ben, depends on how many tracks you have added to your favourites. If there are not that many tracks, Flow doesn't have enough data to recommend many different tracks. That should change, if you add more tracks to the list.
Or are you talking about tracks that you've already disliked?

So that means that since I have 0 favorite tracks it creates this mega repeat one or two songs every three or four?

Is there any way to create some settings in flow on the frequency that tracks get played? I have some 500 favourite tracks yet Flow seems to play some very regularly and others seldom. It also then plays similar songs more often than ideal. If there was a way say to have Flow not repeat a song more than once in every X days or after Y songs. For example if it plays Smells like teen spirit (which is a great song) then it can't play it again until it has played 200 other tracks or some number that can be set? or can't play it again until 10 days have elapsed..... That would to me be a great feature and way to get new and varied music from my favourites as sometimes it does frustrate.....
You can't control on the frequency on the songs ...

Hi @Yula, is there any update on this? I’ve just listened to f***ing Wonderwall 5 times in 3 days.

I have the same issue - 300 favourite tracks but it’s always playing the same narrow selection. I play Flow via my Alexa every day so it gets pretty dull when I’m hearing the same tracks over and over (however much I like them, Deezer might actually make me hate them!); the repetition isn’t on,y on my Alexa but also on a Squeezebox and via the phone app. I find myself skipping tracks a lot.

Thanks for the feedback guys, we are constantly working on Flow and its algorithm and we know that it's not perfect yet, but always pass your feedback on and our team is looking into the user behaviour, specially with Flow. There will be changes in the future, but as of now, we can give you any details or dates. We will of course let you know once we have details we can share 🙂
You can at least make that Flow that will suggests you anything other than band's top 3 tracks

Please see here how to improve your Flow, but I will make sure we pass your feedback on to our devs too 🙂

Hi @gdr our developers work constantly on the Flow and we are happy to forward your feedback as well. Unfortunately we do not have at this moment a specific update on this I am afraid.

Flow keeps repeating the same songs - the monthly stats show that. Any update on the algoritm?

The other item that would be ideal in January Flow starts playing Christmas carols - sure we play them for the kids a lot in Dec and xmas but if they could be barred in Jan-October would be cool, if possible....

Hey @gdr

Please check Rafael.'s tip on how to improver your Flow for the time being.

Xmas songs are generally barred in the time period you mentioned. But some songs are not correctly labelled 'xmas' and slip through the net. If you do find them, please let me know (copy links, please)

@Rudi - My music list is pretty extensive as to Rafael's tips but the repetition remains and some of my favourite tracks repeat very often others I haven't heard in a long time. That's why I'd love to adjust the frequency of repeats as a fix but not sure if that is feasible. Flow could be great if this was fixed.

For the xmas it's an ABC Christmas album "ABC For Kids Christmas - Various Artists" which may not be big globally (!) - https://www.deezer.com/en/album/14831821

@gdr

Gotcha! Well, I've passed your feedback on. But also leave a comment here and complete the survey ;)
I've also informed the devs about the ABC Christmas Album too. Hopefully it'll be removed from your Flow soon.

Hey @gdr

Thank you for your patience. Have you tried your Discovery weekly Flow card? By liking more songs in there, you'll be telling the algo you want more discovery in your Flow, for example.
