This would have happened in any company during the brainstorm that lead to all this...

… except at Deezer:

“Live the Music 💜 with a dynamic and inclusive community.” - Just not if you have any visual impairments 😡😡😡

I have cancelled my subscription as a result of the redesign.
I left Spotify when they started shoving podcasts down my throat ( I don’t use my music app for podcasts, period) and making random UI changes for no reason. I tried Qobuz and Tidal for a month each before landing on Deezer, which was reliable enough and had an excellent UI.

Deezer has overall been buggier, slower, and less stable than Spotify. I have reported these bugs over the past year, no improvements have been made. However, I stayed because of the sane and reasonable UI. Just leave me alone and let me listen to my music.

Now Deezer has the worst UI of all the music streaming apps, some small features have been removed, and all of the bugs that have been annoying me all year are still there. It’s unfortunate that developer time was designated to such a pointless endeavor instead of fixing actual technical problems.

Deezer, I vote with my wallet.  I had already cancelled to send a message, your condescending and dismissive response to this community really seals the deal.
You won’t get a single dollar from me with this attitude.

This is a disaster from any angle!

Userlevel 2

lol, “we don’t care about y’all think”, well goodbye

The app now looks like it targets teen girls!

And new logo looks like a cheap version of a dating site for teens.

I had to remove this from my screen. It would be a shame if someone saw such an icon on my phone.

As someone who works in a relatively corporate job, with legal considerations and whatever else, this honestly really smacks of a company just brushing as much under the carpet as they can get away with.

The frustrating thing here is that Deezer, for me at least, was doing just fine and I was happy with it - I also very rarely subscribe on a monthly basis to anything.

This whole refresh and re-brand though… it’s just visually ‘off’. You know when you sniff something to see if it’s ok to eat? It's that same mental process here, but it’s my eyes doing the sniffing here. It’s horrible to look at; not because it’s purple (I love purple), but the combination of the font, horrible icon design (all of them, not just main one), detracted UI overall… I instantly went back to an old API.

Thing is though, since seeing this response, I know that this has ultimately come from a top tier business decision that won’t get reversed. They’ll die on this hill, unfortunately.

So, here’s to rebuilding my library on Tidal.

Deezer helps you “be and belong,”

What a load of 💩

You're a streaming music service first and foremost - remember that, because people are paying to keep you in business

If I wanted the rest of the rubbish that you misguidedly think that you are, I'd go to existing social media outlets

You've killed your brand identity and your previously instantly recognisable logo in pursuit of some misguided flight of fancy

All that I, and seemingly many other paying customers, want is a streaming music provider with a corporate branding that doesn't offend the sense of sight.

Enjoy your reimagining coz I'm reigniting my Tidal subscription...

I'm a musician, and this is the logo they use on the creators' panel. They already had a better logo than the original, but instead, they opted for an emoji

So just a typical corpo mumbo jumbo. Time to look for alternatives!

Alright so, i have been a longtime Deezer user (since 2016), and a new community user. Now, i actually liked the old Deezer logo with the bars and capitalized text. And now, everything is purple, and the logo is a freakin’ heart, and they’re using what looks like the Fortnite font, and it just dosen’t look good at all.

Userlevel 2

I like the improvements in the apps (Android, Windows). Some features need to be fixed/restored, but those bugs happen.

I don’t mind the logo being purple. I am simply not a fan of the icon being ONLY a heart. I mentioned this in Reddit but I think something in the logo should reference what the app actually is. Make the heart wear headphones or something. A single heart looks like a dating app. Not an app related to music.

No one is really going to recognize that as an equalizer heart.

This reply took me over the edge, especially after having to stare at a heart in my car last night as my music played. Clearly you don't care about your customers. Clearly you're spending in the wrong areas when missing features and bugs should have been of much higher priority to put spend towards.

As I've lightly touched on in other previous posts, I want to make it clear, I came to Deezer originally BECAUSE of the beautiful minimalist GUI that was the draw coupled with the higher sound quality, but the GUI closed the deal for me. It's what made you unique it was your secret sauce. Didn't you know that?? You're UI was understated and gorgeous. How foolish to leave that behind.

I've now received my recent annual resub refund from the play store and have moved to Tidal. I hate that it came to this. So long Deezer. Not sure who you are anymore, but you clearly lost your way and you clearly don't care about your customers.

Because of my screen size, I am unable to scroll down from playlist image to song or button to start the song, the image doesn't cover whole page, but player + image do. Therefore, I am forced to go to horizontal screen, to reach it.

Temporary option to get back to old design is a good idea.

I appreciate the will to keep things fresh though.

Thanks!

I am sad, really. I am feeling betrayed!

I think I am a Premium user since… 2015/2016 if I am not wrong. All my friends and family use Spotify but I have always been faithful to Deezer.

Who made this decision? An Intern? Please guys, wake up! It’s awful!! Seems like a dating app.

I think the new UI is ok, but I can’t bear the new logo especially having a purple heart on the launcher menu in android. It doesn’t integrate at all with the other apps and it doesn’t share the idea of music IMHO.

Userlevel 3

Yes, the whole “Express themselves” thing is extremely odd, especially considering Deezers current “social” elements are limited (which I have no problem with). If it was a core part of the app experience, I might buy it, but as is…? No, it’s just patronizing.

I just want to listen to music with a clean, inoffensive interface that works 100% of the time and doesn’t try to have too much “personality”. Given the extremely wide taste of “personality” peoples music choice itself already exhibits, it is impossible to decide on a strong brand/app identity which doesn’t clash with users tastes.

With that said, given it has only been ~1 day, I would not expect any sort of response from Deezer. In fact, I wouldn’t expect a response at all. At best I see them quietly rolling out a “normal” font (likely) and toning down the love heart logo (not as likely). I don’t see anything else changing.

(Alas, I also won’t be extending my subscription).

The thing that really gets to me about the rebranding is that this could’ve been fun.

People like having opinions on aesthetics. Deezer users are here because we like Deezer, it feels more personal than Spotify et al. It feels like something we all have a part in.

Except we obviously don’t.

We could’ve had a poll, a beta testing period, or whatever else. Deezer could have gotten some hype going, gotten the community energized. They want to create connections between users? What better occasion than a debate on icons and color schemes! Maybe the result wouldn’t have been objectively better than this, but it would’ve been our choice.

But no, they rolled it out without asking. And they did a very slapdash job, which could’ve easily been prevented if they’d taken feedback first. It didn’t occur to them to check for accessibility ♿.

Look at the announcements: “We tell you more” makes it clear there’s a hierarchy and users are at the bottom of it.

Most of us dislike change, and sometimes change has to happen. But more than that, nobody likes feeling ignored and helpless. I think that’s a big part of why the rebranding got such a backlash. It’s why I’m thinking of switching to Spotify. Sure, it’s ugly and impersonal, but I guess Deezer is too.

Userlevel 3

Really the joke has been long enough! It’s time to restore the previous icon!

Some of the comments about it relating to some sectors of the community are quite frankly disgusting and completely agree with @GropplerZorn .

Disgusting? I don’t know which comments you are referring to, but it is a well known psychological fact that the majority of men (don’t ask me why) hate purple (except for Prince). Stop making this political. People seem to prefer the old logo with its rainbow colors and clear indication of being a music app with the shape of a soundwave. If rainbow colors isn’t inclusive in this day and age, I don’t know what is. 86% so far hate the new app design. Me included. Back in the day I chose Deezer because of its beautiful, clear design. I hated Spotify’s Fisher Price look and Apple’s usability was a nightmare. For the same reason I am now ending my subscription with Deezer. I just don’t like the feel of the app anymore.

Oh, and one of the biggest draws towards Deezer was the collaborative playlists. That is coming to Apple Music next month. A dangerous time for Deezer to make such a drastic design change.

I just wanted to join the voices of disagreement with the new logo. When I saw it I just couldn’t believe my eyes, and I was soooo crossed! Everyone else has already said what I also think about the new logo - it looks awful and resembles a dating app logo, I am honestly scared of the moment when my boyfriend spots it on my screen accidentally and will think I have downloaded a dating app… 😕

I hope our joint voices will be strong enough to make the owners think and maybe change it all back to the original...

The new UI is absolutely awful, objectively. It’s messy, it’s ugly. Literally no one asked for the redesign, why would you move things around when we’re all used to the platform as it’s been for YEARS. Just because something hasn’t been changed in a while, does NOT mean it should be changed. This was some busy body who took it upon themselves to tell the dev team to redo the entire interface to satisfy their own ego.

I WILL be leaving this platform for spotify if the old UI isn’t brought back.

Userlevel 4

Truly impressive non-explanation! What new era? How are you ‘connecting emotionally with fans’ if the vast majority of fans dislike the new look? What do you think ‘experience music, not just listen to it’ means, and how does a purple heart contribute to that?

I don’t hate the new logo, personally, and I know that every change gets some pushback. But your messaging around this is incredibly condescending and bizarre!

Do you have any dashboard customization plans lined up? Will there be different palettes users can use? I don’t hate the logo but I hate the layout: it looks like a cheaper Spotify and lost that unique charm Deezer used to have. I’m willing to stay on as a paying customer for a little while longer: your music editors are great, and I like Deezer Flow. But if I have to contend with ugly colors, ugly fonts, and no control over the visuals at all, then well… I can just use Spotify for free, bros.

Deezer staff mocking paying customers on X put me over the edge. Saying goodbye to Deezer after 12 years.

To all the users voicing their concerns about the re-brand: Have a good day 😊

Deezer still doesn’t get it. people PAY, Deezer needs to PLAY.nothing more. nothing “social”, nothing “identity”

Me and many users left because we know you will stand by this. I rather give money to the competition that just plays music and isnt having an “identity crisis”

Hope next shareholder meeting will show this was the right move for Deezer, but personally I think this might be your Bud Light.
