Logitech is closing mysqueezebox servers in 2 weeks…..

Deezer plugin uses the mysqueezebox server to login to Deezer to make the service work on squeezebox devices via LMS.

this means the Deezer plugin will stop working in under 2 weeks.

please Deezer work with the community now developing Logitech media server to allow a plugin not requiring mysqueezebox to work so we can continue to enjoy the service.

Deezer is the only streaming service effected by this closure so being quick/first to solve the issue could mean grabbing some subscribers from the other streaming services that will also be cut off from LMS squeezebox users because of this closure.

If Deezer isn’t able to come up with a solution or help community with info to help create a plugin it will force me to switch to a service who have a plugin that works without mysqueezebox.

Hello @Jophus @t1no @coypu @Pascal9 @Zayn Belmonte unfortunately what our user @Innocent is true.

Nevertheless is important to highlight that Logitech discontinued the Squeezebox platform back in 2012 and it is through a custom media server that was create after, that several apps managed to keep working like Deezer.

Our teams are currently looking  if there is any possibility to bring Deezer back, however, I don’t want to give any falses hopes that it will happen.

So please stay tuned and keep an eye here and on Logitech forums, as there may be a workaround available. We will inform our users if there’s any official method to use Deezer again on Squeezebox.

This is the perfect opportunity to finally integrate deezer properly into the Logitech Media Server, without having to go through mysqueezebox.com! Please Deezer, make the integration together with the community possible! I want to continue using deezer :)

Logitech has decided to discontinue the mysqueezebox.com service. This was announced here: https://mysqueezebox.com/index/Home

The mysqueezebox.com service is currently required for all users of the Squeezebox ecosystem to access Deezer. When Logitech turns off the server we will not be able to use Deezer any more on our music players. This is affecting many (thousands?) of customers. 

I have been a Deezer Hifi and Premium customer since 2015 and i have enjoyed your service, but if I cannot access it anymore on my music players at home I will be forced to move to a competitor that is still supported on Squeezebox.

I hope Deezer can work with the community that maintains and supports the LMS for squeezebox to find a solution to this problem.  The issue is discussed here:

I can also confirm that a solution has been found and works, thanks to Philippe44 and Michael Herger. It allows squeezebox and squeezelite users to access Deezer without the need of mysqueezebox.com servers. They developed a new Deezer Plugin for LMS, all this running without the mysqueezebox.com servers.

Please note that a Deezer paid account is required.

For the moment it seems that the easiest way to install the new LMS plugin is as follow:

  1. Install / Upgrade to LMS 8.5.0
  2. Use the standard LMS web interface; go to the ‘Plugins’ section / tab (“Plugins” / “Manage Plugins”)
  3. At the very end of the plugin list, you will find an “Additional Repositories” section → add the following repository URL: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/philippe44/lms-deezer/main/repo/repo.xml
  4. Click on the “Save Settings” button located in the bottom left
  5. Refresh the page and you should see the new Deezer plugin listed at the very end of the plugin list
  6. Tick the box and Click on the “Save Settings” button located in the bottom left
  7. The new Deezer Plugin will then appear in the “Active Plugins” section at the very beginning of the Plugin list
  8. Click on the “Settings” link following the Deezer plugin description & Author column
  9. On the “Deezer Plugin” configuration page, add your Deezer Account and ARL token and click on “Save Settings”
  10. I don’t remember if it’s necessary to restart LMS, but normally, now all should be Ok!

I will also be losing Deezer via LMS soon as well, which is a pain as I recently signed up for another 12 months. I’m not sure what is preventing a plugin being developed for LMS, but it would be great if Deezer could support a resolution to this.

Please give the community the chance to continue using deezer. Otherwise, many will switch to another service. I have already created an Quobuz account - there is a plug-in that runs without mysqueezebox.com.

I have been a long time Deezer user and would love to stay with Deezer…. if i can play the music on my squeezeboxes.

as explained hereabove with stopping of mysqueezebox.com service by Logitech sooner in Feb.24, whole high values Premium Deezer users enjoying Deezer via access to mysqueezebox.com for Hifi Squeezebox devices and Premium High End Audio devices (Innuos, Musical Fidelity, Daphile embedded in high end streamer...) could not anymore use Deezer.

Are you able to accept a immediate revenue lost of about 5 M (EUR)/y starting on Feb.24 when we will be obliged to switch to Qobuz or Spotify ?? Qobuz and Spotify are supported natively into LMS w/o need of mysqueezebox.com.

You could easily avoid this lost and raise up easily your revenue by growing up Premium Deezer users by simply helping Community Developer (they are ready to help) to allow access to Deezer service via a new LMS plugin.

but I’m in the same position as  many of you, family Deezer subscription only really accessed via our LMS system

 

So if Deezer don’t provide a solution to accessing their service without using mysqueezebox.com it’s a simple decision for us, Deezer goes to be replaced by another service that will work how we need it to be

family account, LMS via max2play, former Spotify user, Deezer since about two years.

We are using Deezer on at least four Squeezebox touch respectively RaspberryPi.

Deezer subscription will be canceled if the LMS plugin will not work any longer.

Hey Deezer,

please help fixing this issue. In my house I have at least 15 players on LMS. We have a family account and I would not like to switch to Spotify, but would reluctantly do it, as it is no option to replace all my hardware. We are the ones who ask before Deezer stops working on LMS, there will be many more, who silently migrate to Spotify, once Deezer goes silent.

@coypu about your question, yes, it is refereeing to security issues as we will need to open a door to allow the integration of a plugin. 

As this is impacting hundreds or even thousands of users, we are accessing if we have the bandwidth to do it in first place, what resources are necessary. 

For sure a collaboration with Logitech would make total sense, but that is already above my knowledge for now.

I will keep everybody update as news are shared with me.

thanks for engaging with Deezer Product Management. Assuming that Product Management takes decisions based on data, facts and assumptions that drive business value - here is a short proposal for such a model: 

  • > 100 users complained in these forums about the situation that there will be no more method to listen to Deezer via the Squeezebox ecosystem past the mysqueezbox.com shutdown in March
  • Assumption that < 5% of affected users are aware of this forum and have taken the time to upvote on the issue
  • Assumption that 50% of the affected users (Group A) would not benefit from a LMS plugin, because they would not run a local LMS (they would have to invest in new hardware in any case - let’s not consider them here). The remaining 50% of affected useres (Group B) would  stay with Deezer (if a local LMS pluging becomes available) because they either already have a running local LMS or would be willing to set one up
  • Assumption that close to 100% of  Group B would switch to a different service (Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz, ...) if they can not get a running Deezer plugin solution
  • Assumption that an average user brings 14 EUR revenue / month

Based on the above we would be looking at:

  • ~ 2.000 total users affected with 50% (1.000) of them sticking to the Squeezebox ecosystem and switchting to a different service
  • 14.000 EUR of monthly revenue lost to user churn → with yearly discount around 150.000 EUR per year reduced revenue

Based on that number above alone I could understand that Deezer is inactive, because it is a fraction of their revenue. However, the real number might turn out much higher:

  • I might be grossly underestimating the affected users which will become clearer with user cancellations in March
  • groups of users might motivate each other to move to another service together for the sake of being with the same service (I have tested Qobuz over the past month and except for the lack of a comparable feature like “Deezer Flow” I really like it). Already started talking with my Squeezebox / Deezer friends where we will move).

The implementation of a proper API, accessible to the Squeezebox community, would also allow for more modern integrations (both in Squeezebox and also other systems).

 

I really hope that Deezer Product Management invests sufficient time to support a local LMS plugin as I would clearly prefer to stay in the Deezer ecosystem!

I am another Deezer Premium subscriber who listens on Squeezebox Touch via my LMS server. With Logitech closing their MySqueezebox servers I too will have to cancel my Deezer sub and switch to Spotify or Qobuz in the coming weeks.

My preferred solution would be for Deezer to develop a plug-in for LMS that does not require MySqueezebox.com for authentication.

Yup,  I think many of us have to switch to another service, because of our existing hardware. I really really want to stay with Deezer, it just sounds better than Spotify.

So deezer please help the lms community to develop a plugin that is capable of streaming to our devices without mysqueezebox.com

I am having the exact same issue. My music player runs on lms. And it won’t be able to play deezer in 2 weeks. Will force me to switch to spotify, which I do not prefer.

Dear Deezer,

I’m in the same boat - family subscription, LMS with a Squeezebox in every room. If I cannot stream to the Squeezeboxes anymore, I’ll need to switch to another service.

 After a more than ten year journey, as of February 2024, will be UESmartRadio.com and MySqueezebox.com servers discontinued. This will heavily impact Deezer
users. It means I would probably switch to Spotty after 11 y. by Deezer!!
