Artists and albums not showing up in search in Kids Profile

Hi all, new user to Deezer here, with a Family subscription, with two adult profiles and two kid profiles.

At first, there were many children’s songs not showing up in the Kids Profile search. At first, I thought that they were not in the Deezer catalogue. But using my adult profile, they appear in a search, so they are in the catalogue. Odd. So I found that in order to add this content to the Kids Profile, I have to switch OFF the Kids Profile option, add the content and then switch the Kids Profile back ON again. Then the content is visible and can be played. However, it is all marked as EXPLICIT (somewhat amusing) — but only on the App (iPhone/iPad). See screenshot. On the Web app, they are not shown as explicit.

So what’s going on here?

Some of the content is as follows:

https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/1687165 (Artist - Andrew Bond)

https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/6996949 (Artist - Papa Moll)

https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/6996961 (Artist - Globi)

https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/6340406 (Artist - Schwiizergoofe)

For sure, there are many others too , and they all seem to be mainly of Swiss origin (which is where we live).

How to fix this? Do I have to report each artist and/or album that is not showing up in a Kids Profile search? And do you (Deezer) also need to verify it? Presumably if it is allowed in the KP search, then it wouldn’t be marked as EXPLICIT.

Thanks for a quick feedback (and fix:-))

Chris

Hello @CuriousCorn, I have checked every single album on the list in your screenshot and they are all flagges an “NON EXPLICIT” in our catalogue.

Are all those albums that you have added while the KIDS filter was off? I think that is why it is marked as “explicit” in the profile.

The 4 artists you linked, were they hidden on the search bar when the KIDS profile was on?

Hi Yula, thanks for replying.

None of the albums in the four lists show up in the search bar of a profile which has the kids profile feature enabled. If I search for them, I just get a page with the message “An error occurred, please try again later.” And they are all certainly children’s albums (as I guess you noticed). So that is why I had to add them as favourites with the Kids Profile feature switched off. When I re-enabled the Kids profile feature, they are available, but marked as explicit.

I suppose the main question really is why do these albums not show up in the search bar with the Kids Profile feature on?

It’s a bit annoying, as if my children don’t find an album, then I have to disable the kids profile feature, add the content, and then re-enable it (but then it’s marked as Explicit).

Would be great of you could shed some light on this.

Thanks and best regards,

Chris

Hey there @CuriousCorn do you have the same issue on web and mobile?

Hi @Yula, the behaviour is the same on both web and mobile. The only difference is that for the songs I added with the kids profile switched off, the explicit tag is shown on the app that I have installed on my iPhone and iPad (the latest versions, as of today), but on the web, they are not shown as explicit.

Here’s a summary:

  1. Create a profile with ‘Kids Profile’ enabled
  2. Search for any of the artists (or their albums or songs) I mentioned in my first post above (i.e. Andrew Bond). In either the App, or on the Web, no results will be returned.
  3. Turn OFF the kid’s profile feature
  4. Search again for the same artist or album, or song and search will return the expected results.
  5. Add these artists, albums, songs to the favourites in this profile.
  6. Turn ON the kid’s profile feature
  7. Result: the songs will be marked on the iPhone/iPad app as EXPLICIT, but on the Web, they are not.

What is needed from Deezer, as far as I see:

  1. Fix songs, albums and artists so they are not marked as Explicit in the apps if they have been added with the kid’s profile turned OFF.
  2. Allow the songs to be found in the search function with the Kid’s Profile feature turned on.

Hope this helps,

Thanks and best regards

Chris
