My deezer desktop on a Macbook won't start nor open. This started when i updated the app. What can I do?

Hey @NicoleCroes

Sorry about that.

Try this:

  • Uninstall the Deezer app
  • Search for %appdata and delete any Deezer folder you find
  • Restart your computer
  • Download the Deezer app again (https://www.deezer.com/en/download) and install

Let me know if the issue persists!

@Rudi I tried this and it still doesn’t work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it so many times.

Thanks for coming back @NicoleCroes

Ok, don't try that again. Let's dig deeper. Please tell me your device and the MacOS version you've got.

And if you can, please let me know, step-by-step, what's happening. Are you getting an error message somehow? The more detail you give us, the easier it is to find the right solution for you :relaxed:

Hello, I am having the same issue as @NicoleCroes. I have a MacBook Air M1 and Mac OS Big sure (11.2.3). I have also tried uninstalling and installing again and it does not seem to help. I do not get an error message. I click on the app and it does not open. It appears on the dock and then disappears. I would appreciate any help.

Hey @lgil28

Sorry that's happening. Have you found and deleted the Deezer folder in your Mac, before reinstalling, as I've suggested above?

You can also remove the Deezer app, update your Big Sur to 11.4 and then download our app again. I don't seem to be able to reproduce the issue here so we need to try a couple of things first.

Hey @Rudi, I have deleted all Deezer related folders. I tried removing the app, updating and downloading the app again. Same error. When I try to open it for the first time I get the normal warning Mac gives and I say open but it never does. I try to open it again and it just bounces and then disappears.

Try updating the Big Sur to 11.4 @lgil28 it seems that something on the system is blocking this. Perhaps with an update, you'll be able to install the app.

I say this because we haven't been able to reproduce the issue on our side. There could be something blocking it.

Remember to uninstall the app before updating your OS.

Hey @Rudi I already updated the OS and I am still having the same error.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll check it back with our devs @lgil28 I'll let you know what they say as soon as I get an answer!

Is there a solution in the meantime? Unfortunately I still have the same problem and use Big Sur 11.5.2.

Hello @hmars

Have you tried to install this version of the Deezer desktop app to see if it works?

https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download/artifact/darwin/x64/4.18.70

Let us know how it goes, please!

Enjoy Deezer! :loudspeaker:

Hey @Alfredo.

thank you very much, that was the essential tip. Now it works. Is there any idea why it works with this version?

Hello @hmars

Yay! We are glad to know that it is working!! :bell:

The issue should be related to some bug between the new desktop app for Mac and the Apple/Mac operative system.

It’s being reviewed and it will be fixed soon. You can use that version in the meantime,

Enjoy Deezer! :grinning:

Hello, I am having the same issue on iMac (Late 2013) with macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

After updating Deezer to latest version, it just crashes without any message. I’ve tried all methods mentioned above.

Luckily, installing older Deezer version (with link provided in comments) works.

Yay! @david.katic

Thanks for letting us know. It seems like the old Deezer desktop version is fully working.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and we will review the bugs occurring on the new version.

Enjoy Deezer!! :dvd:

I’m having the same issue on version 5.30.110. Downgrading to version 4.18.70 worked for me too.

@alfele your previous version did work. where I can find another versions to try the last version that works on my mac? I'm using macos 12.0.1 intel. Where I can find the logs to see what happened to help your team to reproduce/debug?

Sadly the current Deezer app  5.something still does not start at all on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) with M1 Pro. Using the old version 4.18.70 worked … will be fixed soon (3months ago). Let’s see … what soon finally means.

Hey @firefenix

I have the same MacBook Pro and can use the desktop app without any problems.

Please try that:
Completely uninstall the desktop app
Restart the Macbook completely

Perform a new installation, here direct link:
https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download/artifact/darwin/x64/5.30.140

After that, it should work normally.

Notice:
The first start takes a little longer because the Mac first has to convert the desktop app for the Apple processor.

Hey @firefenix

Have you already tried it?

@dee_dirk That actually help, yes.I did not even had to reboot. It took a bit longer to start but not much, less than 30s I would say. Thank you.

Hi,

I’m having the exact same issue on a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey. The latest version (5.30.140) starts but immediately crashes without any error message. I’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app multiple times.

I was able to use the version 4.18.70 posted above for about 1 hour but then the app automatically updated to the latest version. Which means I’m back to the initial problem.

Any idea?

Thanks

Hello @Artemis62

Are you able to uninstall the latest version of the app from your Mac and try to install the old version https://www.deezer.com/desktop/download/artifact/darwin/x64/4.18.70?

That should work while we review the bug that you are mentioning to us,

Thanks :)

Hi @Alfredo.

That’s what I did yesterday: I installed version 4.18.70 and it was working fine. But then, after a restart, the app automatically upgraded to the latest version. Is there a way to disable automatic updates in the app?

Also, do you have an ETA on a fix for this bug? I see this thread was started 7 months ago.

Thanks

I read this thread half a year ago (in the summer) when the new Deezer version came, and started to crash on Mac all the time when it was launched. Now it’s winter, and Deezer doesn’t seem to give a st about its customers.
