On May 31, 1980 they went to No.1 on the US singles chart with  Funkytown · Lipps Inc.

She had the 1996 US No.4 & UK No.11 single 'Ironic' from Jagged Little Pill  (the third studio album)  which has sold more then 30 million copies, making it the best ever selling record by a female performer.

Elton John released his debut album Empty Sky in the UK, (released January 1975 in the US).

Skyline Pigeon · Elton John  is the best known song on the album, and is the only one which John, albeit infrequently, performs as part of his live shows.

 


Hanson started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'MMMbop'. Originally called The Hanson Brothers, lead singer Zak Hanson was just 13-years-old at the time of the hit. One of the biggest debut singles of all time; reaching No.1 in 27 countries.

Duran Duran released their debut studio album Duran Duran which reached No.3 on the UK Albums Chart and remained in the UK top 100 for 118 weeks. In the US the album reached No.10 on the Billboard 200, and spent 87 weeks on that chart. Singles from the album included the UK top 10 hits 'Planet Earth' and 'Girls on Film'.

American band Maroon 5 released 'Moves Like Jagger', featuring Christina Aguilera.

Its lyrics refered to a male's ability to impress a female with his dance moves, which he compares to those of Mick Jagger. The video featured old video footage of Jagger and his iconic dance moves. 'Moves Like Jagger' was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 54th Grammy Awards. The single peaked at No.1 on the US chart.
