More than 95% of the time when I listen to music, I just want some sort of random shuffle, like a personal radio station. I signed up for Deezer hoping Flow would be that, but it’s missing the mark. I’ve been trying Shuffle My Music instead recently and I’m enjoying it better, but that too is missing the mark. I’m realizing that I’m in search of a sort of combination of Flow and SMM. Below compares Flow to SMM to My Ideal. These percentages are my best guess based on my listening experience. Based on many of the forum topics I’ve read, I think this would satisfy many users. Thanks for your consideration!

  Flow SMM My Ideal
Discovery/New music 60% (even with More Favorites turned ON) 0% (for first 50 songs) 20%
Favorite Tracks 20% 33% 20%
From Playlists 20% 33% 20%
From Favorite Albums (not a favorite track) 0% 33% 20%
From Favorite Artists (not a favorite track or from a favorite album) 0% 0% 20%
Ability to adjust %’s above No No Nice-to-have but not a big deal
Genre/Mood Selection Yes No Yes

I agree with all of the above. I think many people coming from Spotify are missing the Smart Shuffle feature, me included. Please consider this (and yes, I already upvoted 😉)

Wait a minute.. on Deezer app, when you say Shuffle My Music, are you referring to the shuffle icon at the top right under the Favorites tab? I always thought that just shuffled tracks from my liked songs and playlists. I didn’t realize it could also recommend and play songs outside my library. Is that how it works? So it’s not just a regular shuffle.. it’s more like Smart Shuffle on Spotify, mixing your music with suggested tracks?

I prefer Shuffle my music to Flow these days, as it does not play recommendations and sticks to your existing Deezer music library. I fooled myself in the last days that it would do that, because I suddenly saw some brand-new tracks coming up which were not in my library, but that was my own fault of keeping the imported Spotify Release Radar and Discover Weekly playlists in Deezer after checking them for AI-generated content. So I’m happy again with listening to Shuffle my music, as it reminds me of my old Library radio on Last.fm while Flow would be the equivalent of their Mix radio, only with FLAC streaming this time. 😉

I also created and edited more playlists for my favorite artists (e.g. adding all albums of Alan Parsons & his projects) which got picked up by the algorithm for Shuffle my music pretty quickly. So that would solve the problem of adding your favorite artists to Shuffle my music, as simply liking/adding the artist page is not enough.

Please! A Smart Shuffle equivalent is sorely needed. It was my MOST used feature on Spotify. I am constantly looking for new music, but not just any random new music. I used Smart Shuffle to find recommendations for songs that fit my playlists’ individual vibes. Discover Weekly was great for finding new songs in general, which it sounds like Flow serves a similar purpose, but I have specifically themed playlists and finding songs that fit just that specific vibe, in a sea of literally thousands of genres, is tedious at best and difficult otherwise. Spotify was really good at throwing songs in that fit the playlist when Smart Shuffle was turned on, and I miss that functionality.

My personal requests for a feature like this would be:

  • Have it be togglable through the shuffle button OR give it a separate shuffle button with a dedicated symbol on the play bar
    • (On spotify you just hit the shuffle button twice to turn it on. Once more turns off shuffle completely. Shuffle -> Smart Shuffle -> No Shuffle)
  • Integrate the songs into the playlist or queue with an icon or highlight to show they're a recommendation (songs would be removed if the shuffle feature is turned off)
  • Have the songs be a similar genre or style to the music already in the playlist (NOT the user profile as a whole)
  • Add a “don't recommend song” option to song context menus to remove songs from the recommendation pool ONLY for that specific playlist (not for the user account as a whole)
  • Recommendations update any time a song is added to the playlist or a song is hidden from the recommendations, ensuring fresh music in rotation constantly

I don't want to use a standalone discover mode when I'm trying to find music for a specific vibe or theme. I want to be able to listen to new music recommendations within my playlists, so I can compare the feel of the recommendations to what's in my playlists already. A Deezer equivalent to Spotify's Smart Shuffle (especially if it can be done better, like to have a setting in the User Settings that allow us to block songs that have been flagged for AI from ever being recommended) would cement my staying with Deezer.

I left Spotify due to AI but I need to be able to curate my playlists the same way or I'll end up (begrudgingly) going back.
