How to opt-out to automatic Hi-Fi upgrade

Userlevel 2

I got a mail where I'm being told I will be upgraded to HiFi for a small amount of money. The problem is I don't even want HiFi, so, who I can opt-out of that automated upgrade?

Hello, just to let you all know my last billing was on 15/07 (Belgium) and my account has changed from Hifi to Family, but I can choose High Fidelity as audio quality, so everything looks fine now.

So it seems like a masked rise of the price. I have no use for HiFi so the "added" value doesn't compute to me.

The thread main question hasn’t been answered yet. Whats going on with support? Won’t you ask clearly? So I’ll repeat the question:

How to opt-out to automatic Hi-Fi upgrade

You can’t. You can either enjoy the new tier with the new pricing structure, or you can shop for a new streaming service. It’s not a major life decision. If deezer isn’t meeting your needs, select a service that does.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

It looks as if Premium has been abolished and Hifi would be the standard. But I would expect some official comment..🤷‍♂️

Hifi is now included to Premium in some marketplaces.

In these countries  :

Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Peru, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland

for an extra charge that you can’t opt out of…

Strange thing is that from 8 July I would get the high fidelity sound occording to the mail. But nothing seems changed. Both in IOS app and desktop. Did not really feel the need fot HIFI sound right but still...

So, I still don’t know if I can opt out of hifi and my subscription will still end without my asking.

Great customer service :zipper_mouth:

Not a fine way to doing business if you ask me.

I was on a €5 euro subscription before. Even after the price went up Deeze kept me on my €5 subscription. Now I’m forced to pay a 13% rise.

Oh well, I’m letting this go… Time to explore other options.

Same here. I like the fact that it is possible for a small extra fee, but my main listening device doesn’t support HiFi so I don’t really need it.

Also curious to know if other price plans will change?

And will there be an annual subscription for family subscriptions?

@DarthGoofy I think it will be effective from the 8th of July, onwards.

Hmm, anyway, this looks like Deezer is slowly pushing for HiFi in response to Apple Music having lossless as default.  Shouldn't Deezer just implement this without charging people for more cost?  I think people would be more welcoming of this if done without shocking people with being charged more.

Hi @casaresjm @fabiand We’ve updated our offering in Belgium and  Argentina and all customers now have the option to access HiFi content by default. We want to provide more value to our subscribers by giving them lossless quality music and we also want to make sure that more money goes to the artists you enjoy. Unfortunately, Deezer’s old offers are no longer available in your countries
In your case @fabiand the increase will be €2 so the new price will be €16,99
In your case @casaresjm the increase will be 60 pesos so the new price for premium will be $159 pesos
If you have any further questions please let me know :relaxed:

So you decide to not only raise the monthly fee by 13% but are also going to sell this cheap excuse??

Tell me :  of these 2 € exactly how much is going to the artists? And how much will add to the yearly profit of Deezer?

Next remark : did you consider that raising the sound quality also means that streaming will cost more data to your users? So it’s not just the 2 euro you charge us extra for something we didn’t ask but also added costs to telecom subscriptions because of your policy.

In my case : Spotify just got cheaper than you guys for a Family account. Guess what I will be doing

I do not want it. But I can not opt out. So I just pay €2 extra for something I don’t want.

I have been talking to support for over 30 minutes now. Very messy conversation. Suddenly they changed Family to premium without me asking.

What a letdown… Should have stuck with my old €5 subcription…

My account has now changed from Family to Premium to cancelled, all without me asking.

What a service...

How does the quality sounds. Found any differences yet?

I had stunning experience in the restaurant, it was unlimited buffet actually, I ate too much satay chicken and listened 1411 kbps HiFi on Deezer with much to hear. I had Premium before and I do not see the point of going back anytime soon. Have a good day with HiFi music. I still remember that crispy chicken and detailed sound on my HiRes headphones. I recommend to try it out ;)

I don’t have a Deezer premium, I have Deezer Family.

In june I got a mail that now FLAC was available and would be automatically includeded, with an extra €2 charge. I don’t want FLAC and yet I’m forced to pay extra for something I don’t want.

The Customer Care employee changed My Family tot Premium, without my approval.

I told her to change it back but that’s not possible. So now my subscription is cancelled from Sep 9th on. Only after that I can start a new Family subscription.

And after all that I’ll just have the same situation as before, having to pay extra for an option I don’t want.

I have always defended Deezer to My Spotify friends (well, that’s all of them), but I don’t see what I should tell them now.

I sincerely hope all playlist of my family members will still be there after cancelling and renewing.

I have Family Six (have never heard of Family Trio) but we are four family memebers.

I paid 14,99 for the four accounts we use. Now 16,99.

I know it’s only €2 but annulay that’s € 24 which almost amounts to two months subcription. For something I don’t want or need.

It’s custom to keep the same price as long as the subscriber doesn’t change plan. I had a €5 subscription long after it was changed to e 10 (I think). With my Internet connnexion it’s the same thing. When the provider changes its offers, you can keep the old plan for the same charge as long as you don’t change it yourself.

I know this is’t going to change anything. But I don’t like stuff being ‘shoved’ down my throat.

Hopefully they can arrange family annually so you can save of three months.

I am sure someone from Deezer will read and post feedback about your price points.

You can’t.

Fair enough! You’re right.

The upsetting matter generally speaking is the lack of a possibility to avoid the extra payment and the sense of it being imposed by force.

But that’s the bussiness view at the moment. Many will go and many others will remain. I’ll think about it. Greetings

Hello @Alexander Desmedt,

you should be able to switch to HiFi in the audio settings.

@hpguru, thanks for the suggestion. But still no change. I’ll see what happens...

Sorry to hear that.

Their customer care can help.

For anyone not liking “Hifi” update. Just try it. I have only €199 Sony WH1000X-M3 and these are nowhere to be true hifi, but even on that Wired, I can hear difference between hifi and 320K on my laptop. To the point I felt like my headphones were broken when I heard thin and lifeless sound.

I just noticed it was 320K. I turned Flac mode and music is back, rich.

Give it a try before thumbing down ;)

My problem is not with the rise for better service and improving artists payments but with that being a jump of 60% increase at once in my case.

I’m getting a little confused @Jaime.. Is Deezer going to be offering a free upgrade to ALL users (including those outside Belgium and Argentina) who currently subscribe to the basic MP3 service? Is the high fidelity mentioned in this thread the existing CD quality lossless, or is it a high resolution service also offered by Tidal and Apple Music (max 24-bit 192kHz for no extra cost in the case of AM)?

Many thanks.

Hi @Walter Cordemans Around 70% of our revenues go to support the artists and creators on the platform and we use the remaining 30% to build new features and make Deezer better for all of our users.
We appreciate that not all users will want to enable HiFi immediately and it may not be something everyone wants to enable on their mobile plan. But when you’re on WiFi, lossless HiFi audio provides you with a much better musical experience, just like the artist wanted it to sound. HiFi is becoming more and more mainstream as a choice for listeners and we hope that Deezer continues to bring you great value for money combined with one of the best music catalogs in the world.
Thanks :nerd:
