Deezer HiFi on mobile

Hey guys,

I'm currently nearing the end of my HiFi trial, and I just caught something; In the mobile app, you can select "HQ" streaming quality, over options "Standard" and "Basic". After seeing this, I assumed that my phone was streaming tracks at a 1.4 mBps bitrate. On album covers, a little "HQ" will be displayed, also reassuring me that I was listening to a HiFi stream.

However, on the Deezer site, it doesn't say anything in particular about mobile being able to stream 1.4, yet the "Deezer HiFi" article on the support site, as well as a (albeit, year old) forum post both state HiFi is currently not available on mobile.

If this is true, then:

Why can I still select "HQ" on mobile, or at least why don't I get a pop up explaining that it's not a 1.4 stream?

Why does the "HQ" appear on the album cover?

What are the technical limitations that make this feature hard to implement, or, if it's not, why doesn't Deezer support a feature that most other "HiFi" marketed apps (e.g. Tidal) do?

Or does the mobile app support HiFi? idk.

$240 a year is a lot of money for me, and I'm unsure what exactly I'd be paying for.

I just downloaded the latest version of the app from the Play Store and it says that I can now stream High Fidelity on mobile devices. I set everything to High Fidelity in the app and my Dragonfly Cobalt plugged in my Samsung USB-C output is showing a 44.1kHz output.

Does that mean that's the end of our complains about being able to get CD quality output from mobile devices?

Anyone else tried this update and checked the output?

Hi there, we do not offer Hifi on mobile at the moment. The HQ indicates that you are listening in High quality, not Hifi ;)

Please see more about audio quality on Deezer here

We are happy to pass on the the feedback that you would like to see this feature on your phone, but that is all I can do at this point 😕

Flo.Deezer -

Deezer has been telling its subscribers that it is hard at work at bringing HiFi to mobile devices for over a year. What gives? I'm being charged $19.99/month for HiFi - twice as much as Premium -- but I'm limited to Premium quality on my portable devices. That's ridiculous.

Hi @dolstein

Thanks for your feedback. Please join the discussion here 😉
Are there any portable devices that support HiFi? I just realized that there is no support for mobile and feel that I am wasting my money. I would be willing to purchase a portable device that supports streaming of Deezer HiFi, but I can't seem to find any details on one that does.

HI @wellitis you can see all supported devices here 😉
So nothing portable? Those are all for the living room.

Hi @wellitis at the moment nothing portable I am afraid. Keep checking our website for updates 😉
Are you saying that when I select High Fidelity on my iPhone, it's not HiFi? That is a deceptive business practice if so.

Hi there @sonicwags

That option (screenshot) is for when the music is streamed from your phone to HiFi compatible speakers - not on the phone. We're looking to test HiFi on mobiles in the future, but you need to bear in mind not all mobile devices can work with this yet.
Thank you for your feedback!
I don't see much point in paying for the HIFI service. There are many portable players including some phones that are capable of lossless output.

Isn't this 16-bit 44.1kHz CD quality on mobile?

Yes it surely does look like it ;-)

Next on my wish list is UPnP support so I can stream Hifi to my stereo amp, which has a better DAC than my current streamer

Awesome! I'm not sure why there's no official announcement from Deezer, but I'm so happy it's available on mobile now :D. My next wish is HiRes Audio :D

Hi there @Alvin Dem @ewauc @Alvin Dem @wellitis

Well, it's true. HiFi is now available across different devices. The mobile rollout has been gradual, that means you're a few who got it before the official launch

True, got it working on both my Android devices and my iPad Pro.

Having HiFi-on-the-go is a game changer, thanks for this long awaited upgrade, works like a charm.

I’m re-downloading all my music just to be sure I get the HiFi locally available
