"Hey, I'm Dom, the Global Pop Editor here at Deezer. It's my job to listen to the world's best pop music every day and update the pop playlists which you guys are listening to. The best thing about working for Deezer has to be discovering so much great new music every day. My favourite track of the moment is Summer Games by Drake. A perfect song for this summer."

Hi @Dom - Pop Music Editor

Here's my questions!

  1. who's the best interview or artist you've met (as in was the most fun and pleasant to speak to etc).
  2. who's the best artist you've ever seen live and why?
  3. Your top 5 albums of all time?
  4. Your top 3 music videos
  5. If you got stranded on a desert island today - with one playlist downloaded on your solar powered phone (so you don't run out of juice 🙂 - like what I did there?) - which of YOUR playlists (that you manage) would it be?
🙂

Hey @Rob Igo,

Who's the best interview or artist you've met (as in was the most fun and pleasant to speak to etc)? Emeli Sande was very gracious when we interviewed her a couple of years ago. James Bay is also a very lovely man and a very good looking bloke up close.

Who's the best artist you've ever seen live and why? Foo Fighters at Glastonbury last year were special, a band who know how to put on a show. I've also been very privileged to see Rag'n'Bone Man and Ed Sheeran in small venues. Royal Blood at Download Festival in 2014 has to be top of the pile though. It was just before they blew up and it was an incredible performance. The tent was half full at the time but a few months later I tried to see them at Reading festival and couldn't get anywhere near the tent they were playing in.

Your top 5 albums of all time?
Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Noah & The Whale - Last Night On Earth
Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?

Your top 3 music videos?
Carly Rae Jepsen - I Really Like You
Boston Bun - Spread Love (Paddington) (feat. DVNO)
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony

If you got stranded on a desert island today - with one playlist downloaded on your solar powered phone (so you don't run out of juice 🙂 - like what I did there?) - which of YOUR playlists (that you manage) would it be?
I think that would have to be Sunshine Pop. Especially if it is a desert island with good weather and fresh coconuts.

Hey @Noam Asulin

How did you start your work at Deezer ?
I started working at Deezer two years ago after working at the BBC in radio for a few years. In my previous job I had experience of programming music for radio shows, interviewing bands for BBC Introducing and working with record labels. Which set me up well for my job at Deezer.

Which education do you have ?
I went to university in London and studied Radio Production but spent more of my time working at the BBC whilst doing my degree. Fortunately my degree was flexible enough to let me work whilst studying.

What are your favorites artists ?
I'm a big fan of new music and some of my favourite new artists are Billy Raffoul and Shy Martin. Billy Raffoul is a singer-songwriter with one of the best voices I've heard in a long time and Shy Martin knows how to write a big pop hook. They've both got very big futures!

What are your top ten albums ?
Alabama Shakes - Boys & Girls
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Noah & The Whale - Last Night On Earth
Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
Frank Ocean - channel ORANGE
Ben Howard - Every Kingdom
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Watch The Throne
Leon Bridges - Good Thing
Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman

Hey @Rafael.

What would be the next career step for an experience Music editor?
At the minute I'm just focused on making great playlists for you guys on Deezer. The next career step is just to get more of you guys listening to them!

What is the most popular playlist you have created on Deezer?
The most streamed playlist that I currently curate is called Hits of the Moment. This is the playlist where all the songs which we see you guys have been streaming end up, so this is a very popular playlist! I update the playlist twice a week so it always has the biggest hits in. Make sure to add it yo your favourites!

Hi Dom ,,, welcome to the Forum ..

Some questions from me Dom ..

Pop music changes so much, especially what is hot at the moment etc. What do you reckon will be the main genre of music for the future, like what genre will dominate things ?

And another one … sticking to genre, what is your favourite genre ?

Thanks for being the Pop Music Editor. … you do a great job.

Cheers Dom …

Ken.
