Media keys not working on Desktop App on Windows

I've just updated the desktop application 5 minutes ago.
Current version - 4.0.5
Before that version I was able to do Play/Pause, Next actions right from my keybord buttons being in any other application, means globally. Deezer was just minimized in taskbar.
My keyboard - Steelseries APEX 350 https://steelseries.com/gaming-keyboards/apex-350
and with these key listeing the music was fun and easy: http://prntscr.com/lwk8x3

Now Deezer programm doesn't "listen" or "unberstand" my fast-action keys. 😞

I removed the Google play music extension from chrome and all started working as usual.

This problem was driving me crazy. I noticed that when chrome was not running - media keys were working. It turned out I had google play music chrome app installed. once I removed it - media keys were working again with Deezer :-)
This link helped me find the problem: https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-media-keys-not-working-on-windows-10/
just breif apparition for me that was spotify... i just uninstalled it and dezzer got the media control button control back.
so check if any other installed application could have took the priority of the usage.

The media controls (Previous, Play/Pause, Next) in the Windows 7 taskbar are not working.
Deezer app version: 4.5.1

Please find attached screenshot.

Please, see this topic above and let me know if it helps!

Hello @Rafael.
In fact I did the opposite. "Run as administrator" was selected before.
I deactivated this feature and it worked.
Thanks 🙂

Great suggestion @eTitiB 😉
A lot of good feedback here in this topic. Thanks for sharing, peeps 🤓
Hello all,

I had the same problem with version 4.3.4 and 4.4.4 (both downloaded from the MS Store) running on Windows 10.

I found a solution that worked great for me : running the deezer.exe as an administrator (provided you're admin on your PC).

You can force the app to be always running "as an administrator" by right-clicking on deezer.exe (generally in C:/Program Files/WindowsApps/Deezer.[XXXXsomethingXXXX]/app/deezer.exe ), then Properties, then Compatibility tab and finally checking "Run this program as an administrator". Eventually hit on Apply then OK.

Restart the app and enjoy 😀

@Rob Igo I didn't use the Store to install it. Maybe if you have it from the store you can go to Default apps and select Deezer right away. Let me know if you can select it as a default Music player.

If it doesn't work - open the Deezer, run Task Manager and check the path to a running process.

Deezer.exe is not anywhere on my hard drive, are you 100% using the Desktop app from the Windows 10 store?
Hi @Rob Igo what exactly you can not see?

Hi @Serhiy.Shekhovtsov

I'm on Windows 10 using the Deezer app from the Windows store - I can't see that (I've checked hidden files and folders too!)
Removing Google Play Music didn't help me.

So this is how I fixed the issue:
  • Downloaded a sample .mp3 file.
  • Right click and select Open With > Choose another app.
  • Make sure to check "Always use this app" checkbox.
  • Select the option to look for app on this PC.
  • Pick your Deezer.exe file. In my case it was C:\Users\Serhiy\AppData\Local\Programs\deezer-desktop\Deezer.exe
Now Deezer is your default music playing app and your media keys will work.

The only way you can set Deezer there is by using it to open a mp3 file.

In my case it fixed switching to next\prev song, play\pause actions using touchpad gestures as well as using Bluetooth headset controls.
I removed the Google play music extension from chrome and all started working as usual.
Аналогичная проблема. Это связанно с тем, что мультимедийные клавиши работают с музыкальным приложением по умолчанию, а Deezer нельзя поставить, как приложение по умолчанию для музыки. Нужно искать обходные пути.

@chok3berry @Rob Igo sorry about that. This problem seems to come and go for some users. If you let me know which version you have and which OS I will forward it to developers.

I also have this problem, the keys you're talking about are Windows Media Keys and mine also stopped working a couple of versions back with the Desktop App.

hi there. I used to be able to pause music with the Fn + 3 key combination, but now it doesn't work
Now I need to turn down the volume (fn + f4), and already on the taskbar (I don't know the name of this window) to pause.
How to fix it?
Hi, @Rudi! After updating to builld 1809 (17763.316) nothing changed.

@SlvlILE

Ok, so we can rule that out.
Any chance on updating Windows to see if makes any difference?
Hi there @SlvlILE

Is the app on the non working PC installed on C: drive?
Like you correctly pointed out, it could have something to do with that PC's config.

Hi! Yes, it installed to C:\Users\{user_name}\AppData\Local\Programs\deezer.desktop\resources - default path to MS Store applications. But previously I tried to install it as Desktop Application on C drive with same ploblem. Installation path on working PC same.

@Rudi @Rafael.

Do you have news for this thread?
Hi there, unfortunately we do not have new info about this. So it works for you on one computer, but not on another one with the same keyboard?

Hi. Yes, both PC on Windows 10 Pro v. 1803 (17134.590) and same keyboar - logitech k360
