Google Home Mini playback issues

Deezer's integration with my Google Home Mini has been problematic since linking to my Deezer Premium account. Here are the symptoms:

When requesting a song on the Home, about 70% of the time no song plays. The Home responds "playing (song name) on Deezer", but nothing plays. The Home android app shows that playback is paused. The Deezer android app sometimes shows a different song (usually a song that previously played successfully), and sometimes shows the requested song, paused. When the Deezer app shows the requested song, pressing play will often start the playback progress bar in the app for the requested song, but will sometimes play a different song (usually a song that previously played successfully). Pressing play in the Home app has similar unpredictable behavior.

I've tried various things to correct the issue, including clearing all caches of the Deezer and Home Android apps, full reset of the Home device, and full uninstallation and reinstallation of the Home and Deezer android apps. I've tried to follow all instructions to the tee, but still haven't had any luck correcting the issue.

If anyone has any ideas, or instructions for finding detailed debug logs that might shed some light on the issue, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi there, sorry about that. We are aware of these issues, our developers are working on it as we speak. Please bear with us until we solve the problem, I will update you here once we have more info about it, but we are o nit 😉
I have three GH mini, and a GH Speaker, in the minis, Deezer is not able to play an individual song, it can play lists. That's after months of playing 30 seconds only. I think I had enough and I'm leaving.
Is there any update on this? I am getting the same issue and it seems to be getting worse. It will only play music around 50% of the time when asked.

It will say "Ok now playing ....whatever" but not actually do anything.

I do like Deezer but I'm thinking of moving to Spotify as I'm not getting the functionality I need.

Hi @Diegoml @Christine.Mitchell sorry about that. Have you tried to unlink and relink your account in the Google Home app?
Linked, unlined, logged out, logged in, this thing works when it wants... No often by the way

Thank for letting us know. Our devs are working on it, I'm sorry that is taking longer than we expected...
Hello, at least it's nice to know you acknowledge the problem and are working on it, thanks for mentioning it here. Would happily offer help (like beta-testing a fix or exchanging details by e-mail), because that's really a show stopper.
Same problem for me
Any update on this?

Hi @RockSloth not really. We work on this still, but were able to fix it for most users. Do you still have the same problem?
I am having this issue with my Google Home. I am doing the Premium Trial to determine if this is the service for me but as it is now it is unusable with the Home. I love it with my other systems.

@Jon Niegowski

When you say it's unusable, what do you mean exactly? Are you getting an error message?
Its the same situation as in the original post. Sometimes songs never start and if they do they only play for 30 seconds or so.

Hi there @Jon Niegowski

What kind of troubleshooting have you tried? If haven't tried anything, please try reinstalling the Deezer app on your phone and relinking the Deezer account to Google Home.
I've also cleared your cache on our side and sent you a password reset email. Let me know how it goes.
Exact same issue there. I have no problem casting to the G Home speakers from the Deezer app, but voice command on the GHome doesn't work most of the time. Either nothing or just the 30s bits as if it was on trial. I have a premium sub btw.
It seems that using the app first to cast makes the GHome device voice control work fine afterwards, as if it gave it credentials.
Trying to find a scenario that works consistently. This is very frustrating. It used to work a year ago.
I have been relinking my account etc. Many times. That is not the issue. It is a state corruption, some inability to log credentials that is reset by using the app to cast, from what I can see.
7 months later...
Still no fix?
Im also having this issue, it worked the first few days of getting my home mini, then I stopped being able to cast to it. Any solutions since the last comment? Half tempted to just go with YT music since I use an android phone anyway. Everything just syncs better.

Hi there @PinkRaindrop

Thank you for reporting this. We haven't had many developments in that sense, because we're reworking our Chromecast integration at the moment.
What kind of troubleshooting steps have you followed?
Still having problems with wrong songs being played on google home from deezer Android app. Usually, the one it played before... it shows you one song on the app and plays another 😕

Hey there @Andre Andrade

Sorry that's happening. Have you tried unlinking and relinking the account to your Google Home? Perhaps reinstalling the app too. Let me know if it helps.

I've had the same problem on my Google home Mini running on my network with Android devices connected and windows 10 PC and casting to my Google Cast

Hi there @peter.bryan

Have you tried any troubleshooting mentioned in our forums? Like unlinking, reinstalling the app and relinking?

I've got this exact same problem. I've followed all the troubleshooting on every thread I've seen and nothing is fixing my issues with my Google home mini.

I've changed my password, changed my email, logged in and out, turned off the internet and all of my devices and I still either receive only 30 seconds of songs or nothing at all. The troubleshooting seems like it's only made the problem worse and by the looks of it Deezer doesn't care at all.

I'm extremely displeased with this service and would advise anyone who asks to use Spotify.

That's really sad to hear @StockMushroom. But thank you for your honest feedback.

We're currently working hard to bring a new integration with Google devices, so hopefully, this problem will turn history soon.

I’ve reported this in other places, too - I have the same problem. Since playing Deezer is the main purpose of my Goolge/Nest devices, this is really sad. The problem also happens on the nest hub, btw., and I’m having it for over a year now.

In the past, it sometimes helped to play content from another service - like that (this is in german):

  • “hey google, spiele I like to move it von deezer”
  • “ok - ich spiele I like to move it von deezer ab”
  • (nothing happens)
  • “Hey google, spiele 917xfm auf TuneIn”
  • “ok - ich spiele 917xfm von TuneIn Radio ab”
  • (TuneIn starts playing)
  • “hey google, spiele I like to move it von deezer”
  • “ok - ich spiele I like to move it von deezer ab”
  • (I like to move it starts playing - in an a capella version, but still...)

This does not seem to work now either - in the last step, you can see the deezer interface with the right song on the nest hub, but it’s paused.

That’s all really unfortunate - it’s always easier to go get your phone and cast from the Deezer app - that works every time.
