Deezer Hifi on Sonos: how do I know?

In the deezer support note for hifi on Sonos here…

https://support.deezer.com/hc/en-gb/articles/201330941-Sonos

It says

How can I tell if the track I'm streaming is High Fidelity audio (FLAC)?

Select Info & Options > Track Format. You’ll see the format here (FLAC or MP3).

I am using the Sonos app on an iPhone but I can’t see how to do this. Where is the ‘Info and Options’ menu to select? I can’t see this anywhere in the Sonos app.

Thanks for any help

Andy

Hey, Andy @andyek1

Good shout! Those instructions are actually for the Sonos desktop app.

Well, the short answer is 'I don't know', simply because we don't develop their app. But I've already asked our devs to clarify if there's a similar option for the mobile version of the Sonos app.

In the meantime, I encourage you to contact Sonos about this too. The quicker you get the answer, the better :relaxed:

Thanks Rudi.

That’s very helpful. Using the desktop app I was able to confirm the track I was auditioning was a flac file. I have a trial subscription to Deezer HiFi at the moment and am still exploring. The range looks good and the “flow” mix is coming up with some interesting suggestions. However I am still a bit unsure about the HiFi quality. For general listening on my Sonos system it’s fine but occasionally when auditioning a track that I know well the quality can be a bit disappointing.

For example the Joni Mitchell track “Woman of Heart and Mind” from her album “For the Roses” sounds less clear and the bass seems to be more “muddy” when compared to the clarity I hear when playing  my own Flac file.  The desktop app confirms the Deezer file is a flac file but I don’t know enough about the technology to know if there are different qualities of flac file creation or whether the streaming from deezer as opposed to from my own NAS would affect the quality of the sound in some way. Perhaps I shouldn’t expect the quality of a streaming service to be as good as a personal library?

Anyway thanks for your help. I’ll keep exploring!

Thanks a lot for your honest and detailed feedback @andyek1

There could be a difference in terms of bitrate, but I guess it could be also down to the recording - they could be different recorded versions.

Keep me posted, please. It's interesting to discuss these differences.

Also, because you have a Sonos, don't forget that we'll be releasing more Deezer features within their control app soon
