Imagine a smartphone which is like a dumb phone.

Yes. You’ve got it. My smartphone, Samsung A40, is very fresh phone, but… It has only 22 apps. I use Samsung UI with no App drawer because I do not have enough apps to fit a whole screen.

Most of my apps are either deleted or disabled. Google included.

Why, you may ask?

Having less apps is saving my time and nerves.

  1. No notifications.
  2. Less to update.
  3. Easier to find.
  4. Minimalist dumb phone.
  5. Nothing is attracting my interest.
  6. Less apps to look at my GPS and other options they may ask.
  7. Less clutter and more life.

Now you may ask what I have disabled on my Samsung phone?

  • Android Auto - I have no car.
  • Chrome, yes Chrome. Samsung Internet is much better adblocker available.
  • Duo, I call and text using my mobile provider.
  • Facebook, yes Facebook. Social media is not my cup of a tea.
  • Game Launcher, games, nah.
  • Gmail, yes Gmail. Samsung Mail is much better to replace Gmail.
  • Google, yes Google. App took 500 MB of my phone and is literally useless and buggy.
  • LinkedIn, useless for me.
  • OneDrive, useless as I use Google Drive.

Now you may ask what’s in my phone? Plain screen, almost yes.

  1. Settings. Basic app preinstalled.
  2. ePassi. I can use for my swimming and movies, and similar. Workplace pays.
  3. Galaxy Store. Updates Samsung preinstalled apps.
  4. Gallery. Basic app for photos. I do not like Google Photos which loads to the net.
  5. Internet. Samsung app, best web browser, hands down.
  6. Camera. Basic app to take photos and videos.
  7. Clock. Basic app. Useful.
  8. Calculator. Basic app. Useful.
  9. Mi Fit. I use it with my Xiaomi Mi Band 4 to get fit with the beat on Deezer Premium.
  10. Files. Basic app for files from Samsung. Drive included.
  11. Play Store. Basic app for updating rare Google apps I have...
  12. Radio. I never listen it, I’d delete or disable if possible...
  13. Notes. Samsung app. Good to do shopping lists.
  14. Banking app. My bank provides with easy app to manage money.
  15. Mail. Samsung Mail is the best mail software to replace outrageous Gmail.
  16. YouTube. Can not be deleted, not a time waster, as I rarely open it anyways.
  17. Deezer. This app I use the most, it is pinned on main screen.
  18. Maps. This app I use on the 2nd place. I use buses, so it is useful for timetables.
  19. Phone. Basic calling app.
  20. Texts. Basic texting app.
  21. Calendar. Basic calendar app with reminders.
  22. Contacts. Basic app to keep your contacts in order.

I’ve seen many people with 45, 65 or 95 apps on their phones. People who use their smartphone when walking or traveling in buses. I mean, one crossed the street glued to the phone for a big time. Which will be his or her last tweet update, I wonder? Tweeting life or living one?

Perhaps you think how does it look?

Plain and simple with weather, basics at bottom, App folder and 2 most used apps

Removing all apps I do not use, or disabling them, opened so much time for me.

I wish I did that removal and disable process much earlier.

Perhaps it is your turn now?

You’ll never reach the end of the App Store, so stop trying.

Thanks for sharing this @hpguru

I personally only keep the apps I use too, for similar reasons as you do. On my iPhone, there's a setting where apps that don't get used get 'offloaded', the phone keeps their data but the app itself gets removed, saving space on the phone.

I also gifted my wife with the Smart Band 4 you've got - such a nice little gadget! It's actually excellent value for money :smirk:

iPhone does that? Might be my next phone in 5 years.

Getting rid of useless apps is a real nightmare on Android phones.

Doctor said my life was a bore, so I started to disable apps on my phone :joy:

Mi Band 4 is old model, it sells right now in Finland at €20.

Has she moving around more after this band. I’ve been walking like a crazy with it.

Yesterday for 12 kilometers.

She likes the phone notifications and tracking her sleep

Yes, iOS 'offloads' apps to save space. It's really cool.

12 km is nice! Especially when you have those lakes and paths there in Finland :relaxed:

The only bad thing when you disable apps, they still take space. Google app around 300 MB.

I was a moment ago on hold to DNA customer service. As my 1 Mbps offer 6,90 a month is soon to end: 08.01.2021. I have in it 1/1 Mbps 4G, 3G options UNLIMITED in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia… basically all over Scandinavia and Baltic. EU data is 7 GB and 0,07€ min/sms.

Normal price is 12,90 a month. I am on ridiculously cheap offer since years. This will be third year from 09.01.2021 to 08.01.2022. They also tried to offer for €14,90 Unlimited 10M 4G plan.

Normally 26,90€. UNLIMITED internet, calls, messages in domestic, Baltia and Scandinavia.

I just call them before end and they renew it for year more thanking for being loyal customer.

It was finest offer to hear, but I was about to go with 1 Mbps as before. It simply works to Deezer Premium which is my main data consumer on my phone. Also looking back at this thread I almost have no apps, so faster net is not needed. Also I do no calls or messages. Can use work phone for it.

Amazing news. I can stream Deezer Premium full next year too

In Finland lately mobile prices are going up a bit, so making sure price for year, is good deal.

Especially at €6,90 price point with 1M Unlimited net.

Last month I used 30GB of data on that plan.

I keep disabling apps if needed. Thank you.
