Dear Deezer Community!

I am a big fan of your service and its regular user for more than two years.
With regret I want to note that the Flow has become significantly less attractive than it was before.

I'm not sure exactly what algorithms you use to form recommendations, but it looks as if it is some kind of machine learning model in which just the predicted duration of listening to a track was maximized.
At least now my Flow consists mostly of tracks of the "favorite" section.
It also does not seem to be based on any mechanisms of collaborative filtering, and even if they are applied, their weight is insufficient.

Also, it feels like full user's history was used without any reweighting/adjustment to whether the track was in his "favorite" list, which leads to a decrease in diversity.

Maybe you could tweak the parameters so that the hybrid model mixes tracks from the “favorite”+saved playlists with high predicted listening duration (or just most frequently listened, it doesn't matter) and from the results of collaborative filtering (or another) model, except tracks that user already has in "favorite" or other playlists, in proportion at least 1:3?

It would be really exciting!

I've had this account for several years, and I remember that in the beginning, after liking certain songs, my Flow would play new songs based on me taste.. But now it seems that the only songs on my Flow are ones I've liked at some point without anything new :(

Hi there, please see above how you can improve your Flow 😉
Hi,

First of all I should thank you all for developing a great service which is up and running successfully for years. As a long time s- user I have to say I like Deezer a lot and would like to offer some feedbacks from my side:

  • The biggest frustration was being unable to reach to the search screen from every screen in the mobile app. If I am not mistaken you have to get back to the main screen to search for another band/album/song. I don't know whether this is intentional or not - because I found myself listening that album/mix to the end rather than trying to access to the search.
  • People wrote about it and it is a popular topic in the Android forum but lack of black theme is another point which should be improved upon. Even windows is preparing to have a dark theme, why shouldn't Deezer?
  • The biggest difference in a good way is the song discovery function - Flow. I only entered a few data and the flow is offering up really matching songs to my musical taste. Then again, other song mixes aren't that good at the moment - I think this is because I am a new user and system doesn't know me yet. I mean I shouldn't see a Turkish rapper after Chuck Berry and Eagles for example. But I am satisfied with the long run regarding this feature.
  • People around here often complain about the archive differences between S- and Deezer regarding the Turkish albums and artists. I don't listen to Turkish music at all so I can't say anything definitive about it but in case someone responsible for this reads my post, that's something blocking your adoption in Turkey.
Thank you for reading and sorry for any inconvenience.

I don’t like Flow algorithm either. It seems it just can’t pick the very music you may like and to be on the safe side when clicking the unlike button it playbacks the music you already have in your library again and again. Bottom line, there’s only little chance you are going to find out and discover more music you may like and worse, it suggests you “sponsored” tracks. I’ve cleared the cache, added thousands of songs and still listening to some very crap tracks making flow not worth the effort.

I see only one option here: to re-write from scratch the algorithm.

I completely agree with this the machine learning on deezer is so far behind from what other streaming services seem to already offer with there machine learning / algorithm.
My flow does this from time to time. It plays the same tracks in the same order and it seems to pick one random track from a particular artist and won't pick anything else from that artist. Any suggestions on how to give it a kick to shake it up a bit?
The same Bieber song keeps coming up on my flow no matter how many times I hit the ‘X’ and it tells me it won’t...I need this to stop happening before my phone, and Bieber, get launched out the window

Hi @Kylec8612 leave bieber alone! 🙂 I'm sorry about that! Please clear the smart cache - Deezer > app > clear smart cache. Sometimes it helps!
Hi guys,

So far I ask to clarify for myself and others alike how exactly does the FLOW feature works, it's a great feature, but I want to understand how best to use it or set it up.

What justifies the music FLOW plays for me? Thus far, I feel that the FLOW can be a little repetetive unless I literally X every song that I have heard / favourited.
What listening habits (if any at all) are taken into account for FLOW? What are the variables at play here? Does it matter how long I play a specific song for and how often? Whether I add it to a playlist without favouriting it? Or skip it instantly without disliking it.
Are specific genres taken into account/record labels/albums and ones alike? I think if we add more variables It shouldn't be generic and will be more tailored to the listener, which it is.
Are my own playlists except for my favourites taken into account? I feel as if I get better music when putting my music on shuffle from my playlists than via flow, as said above, it seems to be repetetive of the music I have favourited. I might just delete all the musc in my favourited and see how it goes from there.
Once it was sunny for 5 days straight and then one day it was cloudy, gloomy and cold - Deezer decided to play the most sad slow music on Flow. Does it assume my mood too!? 😃

feel free to discuss this - if this is not a feature within flow already it should be! Prove me right guys!

P.S: The subfourm box is vague, none of what it shows matches this, so I'm picking one of the closest matches.
Does Flow only take into account your favorited tracks or your favorited artists as well? I've recently favorited a bunch of artists and removed old ones from my favorites but Flow still plays music from my initial preferences.
upon disliking track I get the ‘we will not play this track again’ message. However flow is still playing the track.

Generally, flow does not seem to be learning much about my listening habits and frequently repeats the same tracks. Frustrating, and hasn’t really improved over the last 3-4 years.

Do i need to refresh my account / start again / move to Spotify / Apple Music?
I should mention that I get this on IOS and Android (although I notice more on IOS)

Hi @Skyero please read the first message of this topic to learn everything about Flow 😉
Flow plays the same songs day after day. Not sure how the algorithm is supposed to work, but I have literally hundreds of songs that I have as favorites and 20 or 30 bands liked. However I hear Another One Bites the Dust every day in the 20 minutes I use it in the morning. Is there a solution?

Hi there, you cant reset you Flow, but you can improve it! Please see above 😉
Flow doesn't work very well at all.

  1. It keeps playing the same songs from artists I like, despite their sometimes huge song books.
  2. Flow is full of Christmas music I don't like, never wanted and never asked for. I've disliked so many the last weeks but they keep coming.
  3. Shouldn't it learn the other way around as well? If I keep disliking certain kinds of songs, why keep playing it?

Hi,

Since many days, flow is playing Rock from the 70's - 80's.
Is there a way to re-initialize flow to avoid that it plays always the same kinf of music ?

Thanks for you help

Can anyone guide me on how I can change or reset my musical preferences? For example, I picked the genre 'Rap' hoping that I could then go in and specify that I was looking for CHH, but I can't to that in the app, and now I have a barrage of rap music that I DON'T want to listen to. It's infuriating! And a lot of the the music is offensive to me and my family - even when I hide explicit content.
Any thoughts?
