Hi guys, today I would like to introduce you properly to Diego Burgos, our Andean Region Editor, so you can get to know him better 😉

Music has always been present in my life in one way or another. I remember discovering my first songs thanks to the salsa and boleros vinyls and cassettes that my parents had at home. Then, Carlos Santana and "La Fania" captivated my interest and thanks to them I started discovering music by Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Since I was little I fell in love with the guitar and my parents decided to enroll me in music courses. I also remember that from a very early age I started to record the songs I listened to on the radio, transcribed the lyrics and started making mixtapes that I gave to my friends and family. I never thought I would end up doing sort of the same thing for a living!

I liked math and numbers a lot and that is why I decided to study economics and music at the same time. This seemed like a strange combination to everyone and at the time it was not clear to me how this two disciplines could blend together.

I also started playing in some bands in Bogotá and had the opportunity to live in the United States and tour with several local bands of R&B, Blues and Pop. This gave me a lot of experience and I was able to live closely the hard life of an independent musician, both in Colombia and the United States.

I returned to Colombia to finish my studies in economics and I was given the opportunity to work in a well-known firm of economists in Bogotá. I continued to play music in the free time but as the days went by I felt that my real passion was in the music industry. I decided to quit my job and look for a master's degree in the entertainment industry, and that's how I ended up living in France for almost four years where I finished my Master and had the opportunity to work in several music festivals in Marseille and Paris. With all this experience I decided to return to my country and work for the music industry in Colombia.

Upon my return to Bogotá, I had the great opportunity to work in major festivals and concerts. I worked as executive producer and Artist Relations Manager with acts like The Weeknd, Arcade fire, Martin Garrix, Incubus, Lana Del Rey, The XX, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem and Sting to name a few. It was an unforgettable experience.

A couple of years ago I started to get deeply interested in the relationship between music, technology and data. The streaming revolution caught my attention and I saw this as a perfect opportunity to combine my background as an economist, musician and music addict. I have been working in Deezer for seven months now. I entered the company as Editor for Andean Countries (Colombia, Perú, Bolivia, Venezuela and Ecuador) and for the last three months I have been coordinating the editorial strategy for Latin America along with the other editors in the region. It has been an amazing ride and I feel this is just the beginning of a great journey at Deezer.

Is there anything else you would like to ask Diego? What do you think of his journey before joining Deezer?
