The day has come...time to start testing!

Firstly, let us thank you again for showing so much interest in this testing group.

It is really amazing to see such an engaged community! 🙌🏼🙏🏼

💪🏼Power is in the numbers and you rock! 😎

What will happen now?

  • Today, around 1pm CET our team will activate Flow 2.0 on your account!
  • Flow 2.0 will stay activated for a month
  • You can not opt out of the testing group
  • Listen to it A LOT
  • Write down here everything you think!

P.S: Only users who registered before the deadline will be able to test the new Flow!

What kind of feedback ?

We want to hear everything you have to say, but remember to answer the questions we shared in our previous article:

  • How and when do you use Flow?
  • What do you like the most?
  • How (if so) is this Flow better?
  • How (if so) is this Flow worst?

What’s the difference between old Flow and new Flow?

Here is a little image that explains it very well!

Made by our Super Users @dee_dirk 😎

Share your feedback below 👇🏼 and help us create the best Flow experience ever!

I read here specific  the mobile app. So we can compare on desktop the old version with flow 2.0 on the mobile app?

Will chromcast on the mobile app also using the flow 2.0?

Really looking forward to testing this out!

Two questions though:

1. Why are artist and album likes no longer considered?

2. Can you elaborate on the "listening history" element? Does this mean that Deezer will think I like a song just because I searched for it and played it?

Hey @maxkshaw, albums and artists have always been a secondary element from which Flow picks up data.

Flow catches information mainly from your listening history and your favourites.

By “listening history” we mean songs that you play and listen to a lot.

for ex. if you listen to a song on repeat, but the song is not on your favourites, Flow will register it and propose similar songs…

I really hope that flow 2.0 is looking to the likes and not anymore recommend music i already liked but from another album.. there are to much double songs in my liked playlist.

Specially  the "wintermix 2020 etc albums" i really dont like. This albums comes up when I like a song what is also been on albums like that..

Thanks for clarifying. Is there a way to change this? I quite often use Deezer to play particular songs for working or trying to get my baby to sleep, but I wouldn't want these to influence my Flow.

how do i know if its active?

The first thing what i notice is less liked songs in flow. Where it was before more likes then no liked songs is it now more no liked songs then liked ( almost 900 likes in my library  )

No, sorry! There is no way to change this for the time being. Test it and see if it influences heavily your Flow, anyhow it is a very good feedback to raise! Thanks

I find so far anyway not much change its still a little heavy handed on country style

and the fact that we now dont consider artists but songs for this test I've built a good list of favorite artists so i will have to switch to individual tracks for the next month which is ok my question is why is the algorithm so heavy handed to one genera even now?

I’m using Deezer for mobile very rarely. Prefer desktop app or Alexa. I’m afraid I can’t be much helpful.

Artists and Albums left off? I'm just a user, but I’ll guess. Because you get “stuck” in them in your Flow. People, including me, want new stuff too. Make sense? I’m just guessing.

You aske for

Before this test:

  • I used Deezer “constantly,” mostly on Android, but when on laptop (presently say 20% of my time)
  • I liked “big” Flow, I liked the sub Flows, when Big Flow got repetitive, or depending on my mood, Sometimes I go Deezer’s “Made for You” stiff, namely discovery, or one suited to my mood.
  • time will tell
  • time will tell

I “think” I have “this” new Flow now. But how would I know?

Sometimes a particular artist is played more often than others (dire straits in my case).
wouldn’t also mind to hear the same song again within 28 days

Its active on your account not only on the mobile application. So you can help deezer also with this test :)

Do we need to retraining the new flow? I have almost no favorites in my flow. And a lot artists i never heard before.

Also for now i gave more dislikes then likes the last 5 hours.

Looks like it dont know so much my recommendations anymore.

If I add music to a playlist but don’t mark it as a Favorite, does that influence New Flow?

The reason Old Flow never worked well for me was that it seemed to treat all music in a playlist as preferred. But I use playlists to temporarily hold music I play to try out. My Flow always seemed to be completely crazy choices dominated by my playlist entries, most of which I had never heard even once yet.

Music I don’t know shouldn’t change Flow, even if it is “bookmarked” by a Playlist.

That’s what I am most hoping for here but playlists are not mentioned in the infographic at all. If playlists never influenced Flow then I don’t know why it never worked well for me. Maybe I never Favorited enough tracks to give it data?

Can we get some guidance on how many Favorites we should have at a minimum?

Hey all.

I think we need another chart:

So you see, the basis for the new algorithm is very straightforward. Neither playlists, nor albums, nor favorite artists affect Flow 2.0.

I start the morning having tea and listening to my Flow on my Echo Studios. I have Songcatcher open for music discovery. With Flow 1.0, sometimes the first song would be the same one I’ve heard again and again, so I might even switch to another streaming service within the first few seconds. This morning, it has been all about music discovery. I’m stoked for this.

The fresh music, the opportunity for music discovery and to build my deezer library.

I have been happy with Flow 1.0, but repetition was the Achilles heel. So 2.0 is vastly better in this regard.

So far, it’s not worse in any way. I don’t mind not hearing a particular song frequently on Flow; for me, that’s not what Flow is about. If I want to hear a particular song or songs, I will transition to a playlist, artist radio, or track radio.

a huge shoutout and thank you to @Yula , @dee_dirk , and the staff at deezer who are responsible for Flow 2.0!

Just now, 1pm EST, Flow 2.0 is displaying album art and metadata that does not match the song that is actually playing.

UPDATE

Forced app stop (on Android), cleared app data and cache. Signed back in to account. It works fine now.

UPDATE

I got a green “Joined Flow 2.0” pop up message after posting the previous update. Not sure if I was using Flow 2.0 before I got that message. It’s the first day of the test- so no big deal. Might not hurt to do procedure outlined above on your phone to make sure everything is working properly.

You can listen to the new Flow from any device!

hi, I'm not sure if it's activated on my account, but there are songs that I haven't listened to before, and I'm happy about it every time. i will update it later.

Userlevel 1

So far, I’m really enjoying the fresh new tracks in my Flow 2.0. Reevaluating how high to set the bar on favoriting a song.
