Does it support AirPlay 2?

Hello,

I’m part of iOS beta and I would like to know whether the app was updated to support QirPlay 2 features?
When I connect to my AirPlay 2 speaker (only have one so far but updates are coming for the others) I don’t feel any benefits. My understanding was that AirPaly 2 would support long form audio meaning that the song will be loaded in a queue within the speaker’s memory instead of short streaming from the phone.

Can you confirm if it supports AirPlay 2 new features? If not when will it be added?

Yes, I did got your point.
It would be interesting to have further insights from Deezer.
I agree that there is no sense in having AirPlay 2 if there is a trade off in audio quality.

My understanding is that Airplay 2 can possibly support lossless, yet in many instances it does not and further will not tell you if it indeed is steaming lossless. That is to say, Airplay 2 “can”, but not necessarily “will”, if that makes sense.

Hi @BigFKahuna,

Got to read your article.

That’s interesting.

But as far as I understand, AirPlay 2 is really supposed to support all formats without transcoding (either upsampling or downsampling), as exposed by Apple during WWDC when it was released.

However, I don’t know what is refraining Music apps to use it properly (legal issues? technical issues?). During the last WWDC, it appears that Apple had updated the way it can deal with third party DRM.

Hi @BigFKahuna

I have never read anything like this about airplay 2. The specs state that it takes the very sound file in the buffer in various format, bitrate and sampling… and thus can do better that CD quality. But I am interested to read otherwise.

If I read this article correctly, I need an app such as Deezer (Airplay 1) to support the transmission of CD quality streams in my iPhone13 to KEF LS60 system.

It would have been expected in a major release. Version 10 milestone and not AirPlay 2 in sight.
I can live with the new design but best-in-class streaming experience with speakers should be a no brainer for a music app.

If Airplay 2 is world class, should it not be able to support streaming of at least CD quality music? Every indication is that at this point it does not. I prefer to live with the 2 second buffer in Airply 1 until the issue of music quality is resolved in Airplay 2.

Further to the recent comments by Darko on his channels I would hope that for the time being Deezer will continue to support only Airplay 1 and not 2, at least until the lossy transmission of data streams is resolved.

I dis not know Tidal did it.
Do you know if the desktop app is Electron based?
That would bring hope for Deezer to be on par.

I’d also really love to see full airplay2 implementation in Deezer to get rid of the 2 second delay.

I just signed up to a trial of Tidal and to my surprise they have fully implemented it.. instant streaming and track changing when air playing from my iphone, and even from the macbook using their desktop app- it’s impressive!

Hi @jeremybonan, at this moment there isn’t a timeline for new updates on AirPlay 2.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi @Leonídia.Deezer

There was no news in your last post really, only supposed steps to work around AirPlay issue.
Is AirPlay 2 support finally on the development roadmap for Deezer ? Do you have a timeline ?

Thanks @Leonídia.Deezer,

I am sure we all know in the beta forum know how to play via AirPlay.
Do you have updates on the full implementation of AirPlay 2 into Deezer? Both iOS and desktop?

Hi everyone, we are aware that some users are experiencing difficulties with their connection.
To stream Deezer songs on devices that have support for AirPlay2, follow these steps:

-At first, switch on your Apple TV and ensure it is connected to the internet. ...

-Go to the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.

-Search for Deezer and install the app on your device.

-After the installation, click Open to run Deezer.
I found this article on the web that overcome some of the issues Airplay Deezer, please take a look into it.

Some news from Apple about AirPlay integration with enhanced audio buffering : https://developer.apple.com/wwdc23/10238

Maybe, it will make things easier for third parties to integrate AirPlay 2. Looking forward to it! Let us know!

Will AirPlay 2 be on your new year resolutions list? Let us know!

Doesn’t look like anyone from Deezer cares..

To me it looks like the typical scenario: First they do everything to establish their name and get costumers on their side, and once it works they stop caring about their costumers. Bravo!!

The only thing I see, is a lot of bla bla… and that’s it!
Sorry guys… but I’m going back to Spotify!

..you also ruined Flow!! I get the same songs over and over again. Please rename it to “Repeat”, that way people know what to expect.

Hi there,

could we get an update on this?

are you finally considering Airplay 2?

what about making the UI better for Airplay? We made suggestions.

Deezer still does not work with airplay 2 via iOS to an AVR, because it lags buffering. So it’s only good for audiobooks. Streaming music is a horrible experience. Have to keep Apple Music and will unsubscribe Deezer

New Deezer user here on iOS and Mac. My partner and I use Airplay almost exclusively for playing music in our home. We have an original HomePod in the kitchen and a mini in the bedroom. Plus Sonos Beam and Ikea Symfonisk lamps in the lounge and a JBL Link Portable for the bathroom. Airplay in my opinion is the best multitoom solution for speakers from a mix of manufacturers. As such getting it as slick as possible is very important for me. Obviously the Apple Music app is the benchmark here and is perfect but I SO like my Deezer Flow.

The multiform support is very welcome on Deezer but the latency (~0.75 sec) on play controls feels a little clunky. Also while the phone lock screen control pane updates to reflect what is playing on Airplay (if initiated by voice on the HomePod) the Deezer app does not - which I would like it to. Support for long form queue, I guess would sort that. And I’d feel a warm glow knowing the target device was handling the streaming rather than coming from the phone (which I believe requires a transcode - even if that is to ALAC)

Another thing is the Audio Output control on the play sheet. Currently there are 2 taps to select phone and 3 (Control->AirPlay & Bluetooth->Device(s)) to select an AirPlay device. My view is that the current control should just bring up the AirPlay menu directly. This still requires 2 taps to select the phone as this is on the device’s panel and then only 2 to select an alternative device instead of 3.

The tradeoff is you lose the shortcuts to the Equaliser and Audio Settings (and remote control if you use that). However for me I use these so infrequently I don’t mind going the long route into the main settings. Overall it would save me several taps per day and hundreds per year.

and @Flo (it would be really nice to have you in this conversation and get some insights. Thanks a lot for the good work, (iOS) Deezer is virtually the app I use most).
