Upgraded subscription to Deezer Family HiFi... no FLAC playback in Sonos app

So today I received the long awaited email I have been hoping for since January when the Family Hifi monthly plan was released , but only to the HiFi users to start with.

Now 5 months later, I was finally able to upgrade my regular Family plan to Family HiFi at 19,99$/mo. At last ! This is so exciting ! 

But…. my first impressions with the plan is somewhat disappointing. Right off the bat, everything should be flawless. Especially when you are paying more than what you typically pay. Note that I use the latest version of all apps mentioned below, from my iPhone on  iOS 14.5.1

Here we go. When it comes to the Deezer app itself, it responds just fine. I have changed my Audio Quality settings in the app from HQ to HiFi and songs are playing back in HiFi as expected.

Now when I want to stream my music on my Sonos system (which is designed to support FLAC format), things don’t go... as smooth as they should.

When opening the Sonos S2 app, I go to my music, then select Deezer, then from there I pick a previously saved playlist that I saved from the HiFi Room in the Deezer app. So far so good right ? 

Yeah but this is where it ends. The Sonos app won’t play any songs in HiFI from the Deezer service. All songs play in Mp3 but not FLAC.

I have tested this feature to see if I would experiment the same issue with another audio service provider (Tidal) and can confirm 100% that songs are playing in FLAC just fine.

So…. is this a Deezer issue ? Is this a Sonos issue ?

The Sonos app isn't developed by us, although we have a partnership with them and are working on a revamp to include more Deezer features :relaxed:

However, it should play HiFi, as you can check here:

Could you please double-check if the same tracks play in HiFi on the Deezer app and on the Sonos app with the same quality?

Hello Rudi,

You have said it all. Sonos SHOULD play the songs it pulls from Deezer in HiFi but it does not. Reason why I got this thread open my friend. 

I’m getting Hifi audio in the Deezer app just fine. But when pulling Deezer songs in the Sonos app, everything is in Mp3 format only.

Why ? Go figure !

But I’m now paying 19,99/month for a non-functionnal. feature. No choice to roll back to regular family plan until this is fixed by both company. Time to put this partnership into contribution 🤘🏻😎

Below are screenshots of the same song in both the Deezer and Sonos applications.

See the HiFi noted in Deezer, while in Sonos it’s not in FLAC. So…. why ? Everything is set to HiFi in Deezer (audio quality settings) and Uncompressed in the Sonos app.

I have this problem only with Hifi Family. When I try trial account Hifi everything is ok … Problem is only with Hifi Family ….

Im so glad this wasn’t me having this problem, Strange though as HIFI was originally sold in partnership with SONOS

I have got the same issue. Deezer Family HIFI only plays MP3 format on Sonos instead of FLAC as it should be.

Would be interesting what‘s the reason for this. Imo there can‘t be a big technical problem, because singel user hifi accounts work absolutely fine on sonos.

I have exactly the same problem. In the days of Deezer Elite on Sonos it was playing Flac. Tidal on Sonos also plays Flac. My Deezer Hi-Fi Family plays Mp3. Hope you will solve

I have downgraded to Family (Not HIFI) until solved, the only reason I upgraded was for my Sonos.

Upgraded last night only to find zero difference.

Sonos is a huge part of why I upgraded the account. 

Sort this out Deezer, you can't say it works with sonos when it clearly doesn't 🤦🏼‍♂️

I was having the same issue, it appears the issue is now resolved.  My Deezer Family Hifi subscription is now playing FLAC on my Sonos devices.

I did raise a ticket a few weeks back but despite a few chases got no official response of a fix.  I can only assume it was fixed 10th or 11th June as the last time I streamed on the  9th it was still pulling MP3 files

 

I have also checked the bandwidth usage when playing to my devices and its is above 5mpbs per device so it appears to be correct
