Question

Deezer stops playing in locked screen while using airplay

Userlevel 1

Hello,

On my new iPhone SE 2020 Deezer stops playing when the screen locks (sleeping mode). This only happens when I’m using AirPlay to a Denon receiver. When I’m using my earplugs, the phones speakers or any other Bluetooth device everything is okay. My other iOS devices (and my old iPhone) don’t have this issue. When I try Spotify the same way (playback on the Denon receiver) it keeps playing in sleeping mode as well.
All my devices have the latest firmware, I reinstalled the Deezer app. Deezer is allowed to play in the background.
The strange thing is that sometimes the app works properly, for instance after a reboot. But sooner or later the problem returns.

The problem seems to be somewhere in the combination Deezer and the new iPhone SE.

Seems to me the issue is with Deezer servers, or with latest appplication update.

I have a Galaxy S10+, and I'm having a similar issue where the music stops after a few seconds when the screen is turned off.

This is a brand new issue with Deezer that I have not seen before. I suspect it will be addressed quickly considering that listening to music while the screen is off is something that most of us do.

Hi there @Vlad2000x @Mirokrijo

Thanks a lot for reporting this to us and for your patience. Sad to hear about this experience.

Could you please let me know which version of our app do you have? I intend to let our devs know about it :pray_tone2:

Hello Rudi,

thanks for your reply!

I have the latest iOs app, version 8.12.1. The previous version, before the update last week, had the same issue. Rebooting my iPhone sometimes works, but after a while the problem returns. It only happens while connected with the Denon receiver in combination with the new iPhone SE and Deezer.

Does by any chance you have the battery saver mode on?

Hi Rafael! Thank you, but no, I don’t. Again, Deezer is playing on the background fine, except when streaming to the Denon receiver.
There is something wrong within the triangle Deezer - iPhone SE 2020 - Denon. When I just substitute one of these three for any other device or app everything is working properly.

Update: the only thing that works for now is restarting the Deezer app. Rebooting the phone doesn’t seem to make sense (maybe it once did). For me it becomes more and more obvious that the Deezer app is due to this issue.

Thanks for detailing it for us @Mirokrijo we'll pass the details on!
Any firmware updates available for your Denon in the meantime?

Hi Rudi,

no, I already have the latest firmware for the Denon. The model is AVR-X2000 by the way.

Hello,

Can you try these steps and tell me if there is any improvement?

Quit Deezer app. Open the Settings app, scroll down, select Deezer and disable the Bluetooth permission. Then open Deezer app and try to play a song on your Denon receiver.

Thank you.

Hi @GuillaumeDZ ,

I already tried these steps before. It doesn’t make sense. The only way for now is closing the Deezer app (by swiping-up on iPhone) and then it works fine again, maybe for a whole day. This morning I started streaming and again, it stopped when in sleeping mode.

Restarting the app works for now (at least I can enjoy listening music at home while there are more important things to care about these days!) but it is not how it should.

Thanks for your contribution

Hey @Mirokrijo

Thanks for coming back - I've been in touch with Guillaume about this. If the workaround didn't work, you need to bear with us a bit longer - the teams are working on possible solutions :pray_tone2:

I discovered this thread while reporting another issue. I have the same receiver, and the same problem. Posting so that I can receive updates on this.

Hi Andrew, thanks for posting!

Do you have an iPhone SE 2020 like I do? Other iOS gears at my place don’t appear to have this problem.
