I am really impressed by Deezer Hifi, but the lack of lossless streaming through Airplay is a real dealbreaker for me (and don't understand the lack in a Hifi setting). Do you have this feature scheduled in the near future? If so, then I will stick, otherwise I have to leave. Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey @marilyne DELL'amico

I've replied to you on another topic.

Not at the moment. Not even AirPlay 2 enables streaming FLAC for a third Music provider like us. You can cast to other devices from your iPhone in FLAC via Chromecast, for example (and we're preparing a new integration).

For example, FLAC on the new Homepod is only available with Airplay 2 for Apple Music. Thank you for your support and understanding :thumbsup_tone2:

Hi @btentusscher, we don't have this information here, but I can definitely to confirm that our devs are working on bringing our HiFi subscription to many more devices. Feel free to join and vote for this Got and Idea topic 😉

Thanks for the input and feedback @RHP I'll pass that on to our Apple and HiFi teams 👍🏼
Hello there,
Everything works fine for me, but please help me understand the Hi Fi availability with my setup;
My setup is;
Samsung QLED TV (2018)
connected to my professional RME DAC via tos link(optical) cable
and my DAC to my amplifier. Meaning, Digital to Analog conversion is not on Samsung TV side.

What is not clear to me is;
1- Am I listening hi fi / lossless when using the Deezer app on Samsung QLED TV (2018)? If yes, it means the app is downloading the music at high resolution when possible, and sending it to DAC directly and digitally without any conversion, right?

2- I also sometimes use my mobile (iPhone) to select the songs and airplay it to Samsung TV. In this case, am I loosing sound quality either during airplay ( sending digital data from phone to tV) or during processing of data in TV? )

Thanks in Advance

Hi there @Gokhan

Thank you for your patience, your reply fell off our grid. Apologies for that.

We're introducing HiFi to our mobile apps (in test at the moment). So very soon you'll be able to stream to other devices as well. The native Samsung app won't offer this yet, but if you stream using your phone (we're currently working on this), you'll have a solution. We'll keep you posted :thumbsup_tone2:

At the moment by airplaying to the TV with your phone you may lose some quality, yes.

So now we can use Deezer hifi from an iPhone and send the sound via airplay to a compatible device, in lossless streaming ? Thanks to confirm.

Hello @Rudi,

Hope you are doing well.

Just browsing the forum about HiFi playback (looking forward to this new Family HiFi plan) and AirPlay 2 support and found this old post of yours.

Are you sure about your claim on AirPlay 2 not allowing third party to use FLAC?

Here from the 2017 WWDC (https://devstreaming-cdn.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2017/509v96e4gd96rlqyq/509/509_introducing_airplay_2.pdf?dl=1) slides where it reads about AirPlay 2:

All platform-supported audio formats

  • e.g. LPCM, AAC, mp3, or ALAC
  • e.g. 44.1 kHZ or 48 kHZ
  • various bit depths

And as far as I know, FLAC is supported since iOS 11 and from iPhone 7 and on...

(By the way, we really need enhanced buffering in the iOS app (and AirPlay in Desktop if possible).)

I agree about AirPlay on the desktop too @jeremybonan but not sure when we'll prioritise the development of that. Our plates are full at the moment but keep in touch with me, I'll keep you updated!

About FLAC, it kind of does - but it gets converted to ALAC on playback, Apple's own lossless format.

Hello @Rudi,

Thanks for the quick answer.

I think you are right about AirPlay 1 (conversion to ALAC) but I believe that the main purpose of AirPlay 2’s new buffering system is that it takes the sound file as is, including FLAC. (As far as I understand the WWDC material).

Looking forward to the new Desktop app (and AirPlay 2 on iOS to begin with).

Best,

You've got a point that, @jeremybonan I'll have a chat with our devs about this today, so that I have an idea for a future reference :thumbsup_tone2:

Once more, thank you for your support!
