Scrobble tracks properly to/Improvements to Last.fm integration

Please properly implement the Last.fm Scrobbling API! Here: https://www.last.fm/api/scrobbling

For start, tracks should be scrobbled only if they've been played for 50% of their duration or for 4 minutes, whichever sooner. Currently, Deezer scrobbles them regardless (and only after the next song has started).

Second, please also make Deezer send the "Now Playing" notification immediately when the track starts.

Implementation of any other aspects of the API are appreciated as well. Thanks!

@Rudi @Flo.Deezer Hi guys

can we please have some status and timeline on this development?

thanks a lot!

Hi Andre, we don't have an update yet. We passed this feedback a couple of times and I can confirm that our developers and LastFm are aware of it. Hopefully it won't take long to get it sorted!

Unhappy with deezer because scrobbling doesn't work properly. According to this topic, these problems are about 3 years old. Good job, guys

It's a shame that it will never happen.

@Rudi @Rafael. , Hi, any idea on the timeline of this implementation?

What exactly is the question? This thread had so many updates and merging that I don’t understand what the recent questions refer to. Deezer scrobbling works (most of the time), see the related Last.fm FAQ on their support forum.

I agree that the songs should scrobble after they've been played for 50% of their duration. I just joined Deezer and that's the only flaw that stood out to me so far

I gave up on scrobbling with Deezer because of all the flaws:

  1. It doesn’t scrobble the “My mp3” playlist;
  2. It doesn’t scrobble podcasts like NPR Tiny Desk;
  3. It ignores tag information between round brackets (this might be some kind of configuration that I set somewhere and I don’t remember. Anyway);
  4. It doesn’t scrobble anything that has & or + in the title, etc.

I’m using Pano Scrobble for Android and Web Scrobbler for Chrome and it’s way better.

Even using external scrobblers the wrong tags have been such a pain.

Please remove those unnecessary album tags like (Deluxe Galaxy Wide Edition Standard Album Version).

Not to mention miswritten messes like Seasick Steve’s “Man From Another Time ( Only 2)”.

Isn’t there anyone on Deezer hired to mind those tags? Last.fm users like me care too much about these dumb letters. You seriously need a tag upkeeper.

When the scrobbling will be fixed? I have been using the service for at least a year and last.fm scrobbling it's not working properly.

Did you try any other scrobbers? There’s one from Last.fm to your phone and Chrome browser.

Disable then Deezer’s one to scrobble correctly.

I think they can not edit tags, they need to send them to a label for a fix.

It’s like 90’s but it’s how it is. I’ve seen that many other apps to stream show meta data differently.

Especially (Original Mix) gets removed and (Radio Edit) corrected to - Radio Edit

I think it’s something Deezer could do as well.

Any update on this?

Well, sort of, as the Last.fm Pro feature of editing past scrobbles in your library now includes an option to apply your edits to future scrobbles, so you only have to edit wrong Deezer scrobbles once, and then it should be automatically edited when you play that track again. See these related announcements and FAQs:

https://support.last.fm/t/editing-scrobbles-last-fm-pro-feature/187#automatic-scrobble-editing-4

https://support.last.fm/t/how-do-i-bulk-edit-scrobbled-albums-and-artists/1438

https://support.last.fm/t/deezer-scrobbling/177

This would work for missing ampersands and missing additions in brackets, but not for missing scrobbles due to plus signs in the artist, album or track title. These would still have to be added with manual scrobbler tools afterwards.

Yea, deezer really should improve the scrobbling by scrobbling tracks only when they’ve been played for couple of minutes or 50-70% through the track length. Everytime I’m searching for some certain track skipping through like ~20 songs I know that I will have to go and delete all those ~20 wrong scrobbles from last.fm manually.

Also, while at it, deezer could apply the same rules to the user listening history page, we can’t even delete stuff from it (though I have to admit it has way less skipped tracks that I don’t want into my history). Unless of course it doesn’t affect the Flow whatsoever.

A workaround for the problem with scrobbling a track after a few seconds is to not use the internal Deezer scrobbling option anymore and rather use their web player plus the Web Scrobbler browser extension which scrobbles the standard way, i.e. after 50% of the track length or after 4 minutes for longer tracks than 8 minutes.

This also makes sense if you are interested in gapless playback with HiFi streaming, because the web player is able to do that for a few weeks now, but not the desktop app. Also the Web Scrobbler shows the “Scrobbling now” track on your Last.fm user profile which can be used by  other apps like the fullscreen tool Descent or Last.fm’s Pro fullscreen feature.

Deezer for pc doesn’t seem to have any place to address last.fm scrobbling. My phone (black player) scrobbled, and so does jriver, But not Deezer for the pc, as far as I can tell
