Still not gapless on Deezer

I read an announcement that Deezer had now introduced gapless playback.

I am a HiFi member and this is not the case yet. There is a very obvious cut between songs.

Try Arcade Fire- Funeral or INXS - Welcome records.

There is a pause/cut. Super irritating. That's not the way the artist intended the record to be played.

Why charge €15 amonth for that?

It doesn't happen on Spotify.

I assume that you are using the desktop app or web player for Deezer HiFi streaming? The gapless playback has been released only for mobile users yet, the desktop users still have to wait.

Gapeless is been rolled out bit by bit . If you are on iPhone you should already have it . If you are on Android you will see it only if you are on Beta ( And still not all the beta users got it ) . You are not paying 15 euro for the gapeless only right ? :-)

I'm with the OP.  I've moved from Spotify for the FLAC quality but until gapless is properly implemented you can have any audio quality you like and a 3 hour opera divided into 2 minute tracks is still unlistenable.  Nobody gets it right but there are tracks which segue seamlessly on Spotify but not here - Savall's recent recording of Beethoven Symphony 5 (last two tracks) is a case in point.

I'm not much interested in fancy add-ons; what's needed is to get the basics right so a given performance sounds the way it was recorded without artificial holes.  Is that really too much to ask?

I hope gapless playback will be roll out for android tv also (nvidia shield). Miss gapless playback (or crossfade)

Hello,I use a Yamaha streamer and when i can expect songs to play gapless???
It irritates me a bit that everything runs smoothly on the phone and that there is an interruption between songs on the Hi-Fi streamer.

Regards.

We're working hard to improve all our integrations this year @LosmiLaza

I'm unable to give you dates yet, but the development is on-going, please stay tuned to our community for updates. And in the meantime, Happy New Year!

Im really looking forward to the integration with Chromecast (audio/ultra/..) 🥳🥳🥳 can't wait

Tip: some playlists are converted as podcasts in the Deezer app! When listening to these , you won't have any gaps when streaming to another device

I guess this will never get fixed. Spotify just announced lossless, once it arrives, bye bye Deezer.

Same with me. If I only play via phone-e.g. via Bluetooh, gapless works, if I stream via Chromecast-which is my main source of playback, gapless is inoperative. Many albums can't be listened to like this.

Thanks for the genuine feedback from you both @snaut @Placido09 let's hope we can crack this sooner rather than later!

I just upgraded to Family HiFi as I was pretty excited to hear that gapless was now available.

  1. It’s pretty disappointing that gapless isn’t available via web or [Mac] desktop app.  These are the ways I usually listen to Deezer.
  1. When listening on the Android app, I was disappointed to hear a very audible jump at the transition between the tracks.  Tested on the transition between tracks 3 and 4 of Green Day “Dookie”.
  2. Still no user centric artist remuneration.  Get it sorted, Deezer, we believe in you!

I’m going to downgrade again.  Get these things sorted and I’ll be back to have another go.

Thanks for the honesty and useful feedback @rjaduthie

Gapless for desktop is being developed, we still need a bit more time.

About Green Day, all our FLAC content is gapless-enabled. Could you please double-check if you're listening to an MP3 version of it? I can ask our catalogue team about the FLAC one.

UCPS is moving forward this year - the pandemic delayed our pilot.

I'm sure you can also see that we made huge improvements this year already - HiFi Family, Notifications Centre, the increased limit of favourites to 10,000 tracks, etc :relaxed:

It seems that direct gapless streaming from phone to streamer via Chromecast built-in is not technically possible. But I found that it works if an application that allows cast, for example remote control app of the appropriate brand or e.g. Google Home app, is used. It's really simple and it works, continuous albums are played gapless without loss. Try it and write if it works for you too. Until Deezer Connect, it's a solution to play albums without spaces.

Gapless does not exist in Deezer. It is an approximation, the much dreaded "click gapless". A sort of patchwork solution. The player they use must be faulty or technologically old.

I submitted a support ticket. I hope they do not take my comments personally, and I was indeed polite, but am dissatisfied with what the Deezer team intends to pass to the customer as gapless. Gapless is seamless, without any audible digital artifacts. The Deezer Android app I use on my SR25 should be gapless-I am not talking about Windows. It is not gapless. I repeat, there always is a click/artifact. FLAC files, though it should not happen on MP3s either if the software is good enough. Many audio player apps play MP3 gapless, without artifacts.

This is not an attack on Deezer. I want it to work well, but that may be a deal breaker for me in particular. Gapless it's just nothing new, and has been mastered by software engineers a long while ago.

Check what happens with the transition from the 2nd track to the 3rd of the Kreator album, Violent Revolution. It's worse there-it even goes too early to the 3rd track. Play old MP3s of this album (not even FLACs) on a good software player, and no such things happen, and there is no noise between tracks. Sounds like I am being a jerk, but I mean well. I have experience with "near gapless/click gapless" and that is what Deezer currently has. I just do not like it being advertised as gapless, because many of us do know better.

Be well, and hope Deezer admits to the issue and solves it. You can always provide a better service.

Stay safe everyone.

I have been with Deezer for 3 years and I have been very pleased with the service for the most part.

This is such a competitive technology and streaming music has never been so popular with music lovers of all tastes. This is why I can’t understand why Deezer seems to be dragging their heels on this VERY important issue, this has been dragging on for the last 18 months. If Spotify can implement Gapless playback on all platforms why can’t Deezer!!

Can the engineers that work for Deezer at least give us a break down as to why they are finding it so difficult implement Gapless  onto the Deezer platform with this comparatively old technology

My worry is that Deezer are going to be left behind in this highly competitive industry.

For my own personal reasons I have a soft spot for Deezer….as it was the first streaming service that I tried and I just liked the vibe of the service, it just seemed a bit different from the competition at the time. So come on Deezer lets get this SORTED!!!….. before you lose punters to the other competition.

Cheers
