Problem with search in Deezer web version and special characters

When i try to type “f# a# infinity” in the search bar and then submit, only “f” appears in the input and in the search request. At the same time, a complete line remains in the query history.

Maybe there are problems with the processing of special characters?

(sorry for my english)

Hello @Timut, thank you for the feedback. I’ve tried on my side and got the same result. I will forward this to our teams, it’s indeed most certainly due to the processing of special characters as you mentioned.

Have a nice day

Another example: https://www.deezer.com/en/album/52068242?source=omni

Album's title is “#000000 & #FFFFFF”.

Hey @AlexWayfer

That's exactly the title of the album.

Check this here

Hey. I understand. I know it. I mean… I can’t find it in Deezer via the search. Like https://www.deezer.com/tags/000000%20&%20FFFFFF

Feedback noted @AlexWayfer!

I've tried searching for it like this: '00000 &' (not even with all zeros) and it worked :thumbsup_tone2:

Another example, with dots:

https://www.deezer.com/search/destruction%20kitty — no result.

https://www.deezer.com/search/destruction%20mr.kitty/track — here it’s.

Ah! Thanks for sharing @AlexWayfer really useful, will pass it on to the Search teams :relaxed:

Another example, forgot to write this: some services provide track name with `—` (long dash, em dash) as separator between artist and track names.

https://www.deezer.com/search/Jutr%C3%B8%20%E2%80%94%20Travva — no results.

https://www.deezer.com/search/Jutr%C3%B8%20Travva/track — here it is.

https://www.deezer.com/search/Jutr%C3%B8%20-%20Travva/track — or even with hyphen, which is technically less correct as separator in this case.

Also please notice `–` (en dash, middle dash). I didn’t see it as track name separator, but people can make mistakes.

Thanks again @AlexWayfer :relaxed:

I've passed on to the teams.

Related to my report: somewhy there are results for this search: https://www.deezer.com/search/Irrepressibles%20%E2%80%94%20In%20This%20Shirt/lyrics

But I see no long dashes there and also (obviously) I see no related results.

Thanks, @AlexWayfer

Do you find the tracks without the long dash? Do the results connect somehow?

Of course, you even can check it by yourself.

BTW, here my results with the long dash:

They’re weird: I see no “This”, “Shirt” or all more so “Irrepressibles” in the results. I guess, there should not be such results.

But without the long dash everything is OK:

Great, that's better to report @AlexWayfer hopefully our Search teams can add some more improvements this year and this will definitely help :fingers_crossed_tone2:

Another similar error (but with 170 results 😱):

https://www.deezer.com/search/Son%20Lux%20%E2%80%94%20Let%20Me%20Follow/lyrics

Without long dash: https://www.deezer.com/search/Son%20Lux%20Let%20Me%20Follow

Now I know that it’s “Lyrics matches”, and even only now I’ve noticed this title for results with long dash. It seems correct, but not too noticeable. I suggest to add something like “Nothing” or “Zero results” above with a title like “Direct matches” (or “Tracks”).

Thanks for the suggestion @AlexWayfer it makes sense :thumbsup_tone2:

Another case: I think `&` should be ignored, at least for tracks with multiple artists.

Example: https://www.deezer.com/search/Annix%20Fade%20Black%20Dismantle

And broken one: https://www.deezer.com/search/Annix%20%26%20Fade%20Black%20Dismantle

Forwarded comments and screenshots to our Search teams @AlexWayfer I missed your suggestions, how have you been?

We've had some changes in personnel for these teams, but things should pick up soon. Just FYI, and thank you :relaxed:

Thank you, pretty nice! Still deleting long dashes (—) from the search sometimes (copying and pasting from other sites) and still waiting for seamless playback in the web version. Also tried Hi-Fi plan but didn’t notice a benefit with my current devices, so switched back to regular one. 🙃

Oh, thanks for the update! When you switched to HiFi, did you pay for it? @AlexWayfer Next time speak to me via PM, I can always let you try - you're an active contributor to the community!

Not sure about the long dashes but the teams is currently investigating what we can do about the "&" thanks to your recent comment so I'm happy things are moving forward :relaxed:

Also waiting for gapless. We needed to take a detour with the development but it's on the plans for this year, so my hopes are still up!

Of course I did. Thank you, I’ll count it! But anyway I don’t regret money for a good service. Maybe there could be helpful email monthly notifications about charges, like from Netflix and some other services…

Oh, nice! Being a software developer myself I like “detours” and have now my own hopes for this and next years!

Thanks for that! I thought you had used a trial offer, that's why I asked @AlexWayfer

As you mentioned you're a dev, would you like to join our desktop app feedback group? It's a private group I've just set up, I'd like to have you there :relaxed:

If yes, submit your application and I'll get you in!

I think I can, but do you need for it?

I like to use Deezer (and other music services before) via web version because it allows me to have many-many tabs like for “listen later” (yep, here is the issue for it):

That looks like my browser in the morning, when I open the replies from you and all other users @AlexWayfer

Thanks again for the feedback, don't forget to create new topics in that group or to comment in the existing one. Web app feedback is welcome too!
