Hi all,

I've been a paying Premium user for around eight years now and am pretty happy with it but I'm open to discovering new things. What are the good reasons, in your opinion, to shift to Deezer?

Reason number one.

Spotify is going to raise the prices. Price increase will arrive soon. Already on Family plans.

In other words, it doesn’t make any sense for me at least to raise prices in a recession, where people have lost jobs and are cutting unnecessary expenses — like their streaming subscriptions.

https://www.somagnews.com/spotify-is-said-to-be-hike-soon-here-are-the-details/

With Deezer Premium I enjoy Premium month at €7,99 price point year in advanced.

Spotify Premium can increase from 9,99 for 10,99 easily if not more.

I see big marketplace waiting Deezer because of this price raise this coronatime.

Hi there @hpguru

It is with great sadness that I read all you've said above. I'd like to address some of the things mentioned above, not only by you but also by @Placido09 and @dgoorevitch. I'm not new to this type of feedback and I understand where you're coming from. I've taken the time to properly reply because positive or negative, feedback is paramount to how I see my role at Deezer.

We are Deezer and we are pretty much awake. We know that our service has shortcomings and that it can be frustrating to our users at given times. We're aware of the level of this demand, but we're also aware of our capabilities as a smaller player on the market. These days we're all used to fast improvements and new things at an incredibly crazy pace. This is because most tech markets are controlled by giants. Name Google, Apple, Amazon and Spotify.

These companies have hundreds of more employees than Deezer, especially developers and engineers. They have teams for what we have one single person, so the proportion and expected results are completely different. As loyal community users, I need you to understand that!

But the truth is that Deezer is good, it is appealing and we're blessed to have so many users as a result of our daily hard work as a company. In some ways, as a community manager, I feel that we're the own victims of our success. Because we've tried so hard to exceed expectations, to innovate, to be ahead (UCPS is one example, and also no player was interested in HiFi for several years, another example of how Deezer pioneers in this industry), we've got caught with the increased demand for a better and more reliable service. We partnered with so many other companies and with that, more challenges have risen. Ultimately, and based on my industry experience, I can tell you that no other company has their users at the heart of what they do, as much as Deezer has.

We have bugs. Not a few. But what sometimes seems simple to fix, is definitely not. Certain bugs affect other parts of the app, third party devices and services, so there's plenty of work to be done in order to sort something "easy".

We also have a huge catalogue. In the end, we can't say no to our users when they ask for more and more music. We don't want to stay behind, we're here to please and exceed your expectations. But managing that is a huge task as well.

It's important to note that as a Deezer Legend, your contribution to this community has been no short of amazing. And I'm grateful for every single reply you've posted here. This is why it is with great upset that I take on your words, as other Legends like @Noam Asulin and @bluezzbastardzz can testify the improvement of Deezer over the years. I hope you understand the value you have for us. The moments we shared, the laughter. I'm pretty sure this is because of how Deezer wants to be closer to their fans, what the giants in the industry don't really care about.

You do not have to pay for Deezer, that's correct. One of the many perks of being a Legend is the ability to choose a subscription from us for free. That's because as a Legend, your Deezer knowledge and experience is very valuable and your feedback extremely helpful.

Another perk is to be able to forward your feedback on a direct line to me, and to know first-hand what our plans are for the immediate and long-term future, among other cool things.

So while it's sad to see you go, we're talking about music and a music streaming service who's trying to be different and cannot be compared to any other. It's ultimately your choice and all I can do is to wish you the best in your endeavours, with or without Deezer.

@Logan_A @GropplerZorn

You haven't been here for long and I appreciate you can see that some requests have been made a few years ago. But please bear in mind that we have also delivered numerous requests over the years. In this community alone we have delivered 84 user ideas since 2018. All we did was to tackle them one by one, as our resources and time allowed, so that the service got better and better.

It's been a short but nevertheless enjoyable journey with you two here in the community. Thank you for your valuable contributions.

One more note for all is that I knew how 2021 would be difficult for the community. What you may not know is that this is the year (as I've said many times) to improve reliability and performance. So despite the bugs you see, in the background we are developing a whole new player, a new public API and SDKs (for our current and future integrations) plus continuing to bring new features. This work takes several months to be done, so what we're discussing now will certainly be history in 2022.

Look at our TV apps, for example. Users have waited for almost 2 years and we're now finally releasing updates. Made from scratch, no blueprints. Just because you asked and because you deserve it.

So in sum, your feedback is always heard loud and clear - we're always nudging our teams - and your contributions are very important. But the speed in what we can achieve things doesn't match that, and there's no point to hide behind it. This is the core of what we want to improve. And I'm pretty sure we'll get there someday.

We'll continue to follow our mission and work hard to create the best alternative streaming platform we can ever be. One day, when we can sit on the same table as those giants you tirelessly compare us to, we'll be able to look back and appreciate the bumpy journey which took us there and the hardcore fans who followed the path alongside us.

Your community manager,

Rudi

5 features that make Deezer much better than Spotify.

1) The most useful by far for me is that you can find other versions for songs that have been retired. For example, if you have on a playlist a song from an LP which has been removed by its record label you lose that track but maybe the same song can be found on a different album ("Best of" or whatever). Then Deezer offers you the possibility to change the removed title for the version existing in the database.

2) Upload MP3: I haven't read much about this feature so I don't know the space allowed for this feature but I find it really interesting in order to preserve your music. I've uploaded an entire album that I missed due to changes in the agreement with the record label, so now I can listen that album again (just me, of course).

3) HTML5: I prefer to use the web instead of a standalone app since I don't need to install anything and for me is important that Deezer web support HTML5. Spotify only support Flash, which is really awful and has a lot of security and performance bugs.

4) Apps: maybe this is not the best point but there are a few interesting apps for Deezer, Spotify changed their politics about plugins and no one works anymore. For example, you can import Spotify list with Spotizr in Deezer, but you cannot import any Deezer list in Spotify.

5) Advertisements in Deezer free are infinitely less annoying than Spotify.

Bonus I: lyrics have been mentioned before but I cannot resist to do it also, it is one of the things I missed more in Spotify since they threw the plugin system to the thrash.

Bonus II: I've seen many improvements during the last year in Deezer but there is no significant one in Spotify. Not only that, they don't publish change logs any more so you cannot know what they are doing with your computer after an update.

Bonus III: Privacy concerns in Spotify are really alarming. They collect a huge amount of data from users. A simple search on the net will throw posts commenting this.

For me (I was with Spotify a while back) Deezer is better also because...

  1. Flow - just ace to hit when you don't know what to listen to
  2. lyrics built into the app
  3. songcatcher (the same as Shazam ) built into the app
  4. works with Fitbit - you can sync playlists to your watch and listen offline without your phone
  5. nicer interface (when you "like" a song it puts it under favourite songs, if you "like" an album it adds it to your albums but DOESN'T put all the songs in your Favourites songs (unlike Spotify does - very annoying!).
  6. better community forum on here 🙂 (my opinion obviously! ) 🙂
I could go on.. I moved over 3 years ago and never looked back.

I do agree @Placido09 in that it’s hard to see advantages over other services. Also @Gaffer13 was spot on in that other services may not offer everything someone wants (probably why I have two services, Deezer HiFi and Apple are both annual accounts, Deezer is £134 and Apple for a higher quality audio £99)).

The main plus for me with Deezer is the simple, clean UI on iOS and that it works pretty well as well as enjoying the mixes. But I am getting close to wondering why I subscribe to Deezer and Apple Music. If I had to choose, without any hesitation I’d let Deezer go. Apple Music just has more for the £$, Apple Music TV, a superb DJ mixes section covering most genres (hard style, House, techno etc), and 4 out of five mixes that are really good for me and great recommendations, Apple Music One and AM Hits radio stations. One thing I find strange with Apple is the way the android app has more features, such as auto crossfade similar to Spotify’s and the iOS left without this. The android app is getting regular updates and far fewer for iOS/MacOS.

With Spotify, I’ve really tried to like it but I just can’t. There’s no HiFi at the moment, and it sounds awful compared to AM’s AAC or ALAC to my ears (but HiFi is coming at some point). I find the UI so busy and stuffed with podcasts when I never listen to them, and if I did, I’d want them seperate in the way Deezer has it, or a completely seperate app like Apple. I find their UI very disorganised, but it is very dynamic and its superb the way you can listen to the library ‘liked songs’ by genre (AM has this too, but it’s not as good).

I do hope Deezer can find its direction in the new streaming world we’re heading into. I hope the other smaller plays can survive as well but there has to be a reason for subscribing, something special and standout. Apple has the things I said above, plus the integration in the ecosystem. Spotify has the excellent recomendations as well as an expansive podcast library which I know many do love and a UI that many do like. Deezer has…….. I’m not really sure when you look at the other services but I *hope* they have a plan in place to flourish into the future.

more tracks than any other streaming service 🙂

I think what matters is that different people have wildly different needs, demands and priorities. Deezer is the third streaming service that I’ve tried so far, and I can say that the company punches waaay above its weight in some aspects. Like, the first service I tried was Apple Music, and, while the sound quality, music selection and playlists were fine, music recommendations were embarrassingly bad. I dutifully tried to make it work - for nine months - but often enjoyed only 1 recommended track out of 20.    When I wanted to get into K-pop, I ended up having to add up many of their K-pop playlists together, and just do a quick listen, skipping everything I didn’t like. Ended up enjoying about 20 tracks out of 400 - so the same 1 of 20.

Maybe Apple’s recommendations have improved by now, but Deezer started giving me good recommendations in two days. I surely didn’t expect this from a smaller company. On the other hand, yes, there are weak spots - and you can see how some of that from not having as much resources. But even bigger companies with seemingly unlimited resources have weak spots too. So it’s no tragedy that a particular service doesn’t meet all your needs.

Honestly, the bigger worry for me is that success might not be determined primarily by the quality of the service, but the name recognition, deals with telecom/electronics companies, and ecosystem advantages, where music is just one part of the package. I think, for many people, Deezer would be number 3 or 4 on the list, at most. The reason I decided to try it was that it’s ahead of the curve on lossless music. But maybe other people have other reasons.

I am Spotify Premium user for 3 years and now decided to canceled and use the  Deezer for better audio quality, but I still using the Spotify free account to listen offline by using the Tunelf Spotify Music Converter which is cheaper than the Premium.so I use both:blush:

Hello.

I was Spotify Premium 2010-2016, roughly a bit over 5 years!

I changed because it was overbloated with stuff I never needed. Their radio played same artists and songs over, over, over, over and over again. I selected Google Music All Access and paid 2016-2020, roughly a bit less than 5 years! I needed to go because I’ve got message that they will close app.

Deezer Premium is my current favourite. Why.

It is better than Google Music. It has BEST sound on the market if you need 320K only. Radio plays new songs over, over, over, over and over again. Best layout, hands down. Best mobile app on the market, hands down. Everything just works, so I paid year in advanced. Thanks for your time.

If you love music, you can’t go wrong with year of Deezer Premium.

It’s very clear that you’ve been a huge support for Deezer and it’s users @hpguru . No service is worth putting up with if you feel frustrated or certain bugs spoil your enjoyment. Music is one of the most important things in life for relaxation and you shouldn’t have to struggle with an apps issues to get that enjoyment.

My subscription has been cancelled with Deezer and I’m off as well, it’s been a pleasure chatting with you, @Rudi  and @dee_dirk .

I agree and want to add that, for me, beyond relaxation, music is a professional necessity. As an artist and sometimes self-taught composer, arranger, lyricist, and performer, its beyond vital. It’s part of the language I speak. It’s a cornerstone of the culture we live in. When I listen to Don Carlo and there’s an interruption in the middle of an aria, it’s like spit in my soul. How can I really open up if I know I’m going to be spit on. This may seem overly dramatic to you but, believe me, for me it’s quite real and an accurate depiction of the events.

Not gonna lie, Spotify was easier…

  1. I’m a last.fm freak and tracking my music habits with Spotify was smoother and way more accurate.
  2. Almost any platform related to music, offers some sort of integrations with your Spotify account
  3. Most of your friends are on Spotify (everyone has an account there) socialising and sharing playlists there is a joy that you can’t experience on Deezer
  4. Most Artists tend to share their personal picks and playlists and generally being active there
  5. The platform is constantly growing and offering new features, it’s a huge company with decent budget for recording their own special tracks with artists (Spotify singles blablabla), recording their own podcasts, offering huge range of other people’s stations and radios, etc.

and a lot more advantages

Basically if you’re a Popular music lover and fan of mainstream stuff, you gotta be crazy to leave Spotify for anything else…

But…

If music means more than that to you, after a while you pick on

  • low sound quality
  • lack of expert playlists
  • Their editors’ low knowledge of different genres and their sub genres. as a results of that, their genre playlists and mixtapes are huge disappointments
  • You won’t believe me but their archive lacks some special releases and albums
  • you can’t change your country, so you can’t access some special editions that were released in specific areas (like, artists home countries, etc.)
  • THEIR ON NERVES IGNORANCE towards feedbacks and suggestions and generally voice of users

while Deezer offer you

  1. Knowledgeable editors (I PERSONALLY LOVE ADAM & ROD! Deezer’s alternative & Rock/Metal editors) who create awesome, accurate playlists and genre mixes
  2. Hands down higher, better, cleaner sound quality
  3. The ability to change your country / bigger album catalog
  4. Unique Flow feature (you need to give it a lil time, the more you listen the smarter it gets)
  5. built in musical habits analytics (your current top tracks / your top months / your top year and a brief comprehensive analysis that will be sent to you as an email)

but what Spotify and others can’t really beat is Deezer’s behaviour toward their users. Their costumer agency is fast and caring. As a beta user you can get involved in upcoming developments. They’re super open about feedback and feature requests. And above all that they’re fighting for justice in this industry!! Above all those features that other platforms can somehow offer them as well, Deezer isn’t a big company helping ‘injustice’ in pop culture or worse than that a company that ‘belongs’ to someone ‘from’ that freaking field. Or a side project of big tech names that doesn’t really care about music. I switched to deezer and sticked around because they’re passionate, caring and the catalog is CLEANER

Thank you for your detailed feedback about Deezer.

I agree on all of this, from Spotify to Deezer I’d fish faster development with less bugs when feature is online. On Deezer new can be released beta and for example it does not work well until fixed.

You are very welcome to support Deezer in the future too.

Thanks for staying around. Something new is coming to features you love ;)

I agree with most of the ideas mentioned above. Here’s a detailed comparison and you guys might be interested: Deezer vs Spotify. I have transfer my Spotify playlist to Deezer for a while and I am pretty satisfied so far. :D

to me deezer has the best interface. spotify i find it tries to predict what you want to see first but it fails. deezer is more standard i know where to find things. also i think music discover deezer offers more options. inspired by flow gives you multiple playlists based on genre and unlike spotify it is mostly songs not in your library. spotify has 6 daily mixes but when you look closer its 70% of songs that already are liked in your library. so this is not discovery but more just a mix of music you already like with a few new ones in there. i tested this and found it to be surprisingly accurate. spotify has discover weekly which does a decent job but its not nearly as many songs overall as deezer gives you with its daily mixes that are not in library. i like how on deezer mobile app you can like songs right in the playlist as opposed to clicking a hamburger menu and then selecting like. you can see right away if those songs already are in your library or if they are new. give deezer a try

It’s not like the services are completely interchangeable in other aspects. For example, Apple Music doesn’t offer lossless on PC at this point - which is crucial as sound fidelity is more important at home, where you can use better equipment and the environment is quieter. Plus, like I said, I really didn’t like their recommendations, to the point that I’d be extremely wary to try AM again. Tidal and Qobuz are unavailable in some countries, etc.

Most importantly, it’s not like anyone expected lossless to stay exclusive to Deezer and a few others. So of course the Deezer guys have a game plan. I think their biggest enemy is “good enough” - when you find a service that’s good enough for you, you’re less likely to try others, and Deezer is less likely to be the first/second service people try.

I wonder, if Spotify comes with Hifi at the same price as Deezer, what benefit will remain here? Deezer is stagnating, he really has many faults and shortcomings, I don't see any progression. My reason for going to Deezer was the quality of the stream, Hifi is a condition for me. I liked Deezer and he saw improvement in many things. Unfortunately, for a long time now, from my point of view as a user, I see no progress in improving and eliminating errors.

Userlevel 1
I would say none. Deezeer has only buggy apps and horrible customer service.
Checked out Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, and Deezer over several months. Moved playlists between them.

Deezer by far the best! Same reasons as Rob Igo.

Hi all,

I've been a paying Premium user for around eight years now and am pretty happy with it but I'm open to discovering new things. What are the good reasons, in your opinion, to shift to Deezer?

It depends. Deezer likes iPhone users and if you are one, fine. If you are not, and like long pieces of music, forget it. They inject silence right in the middle of the music if the music continues through tracks, as does an opera.

I am just trialing one with 3 mo from Samsung deal.

I like Deezer, but it has too much of a bugs and in over a year as a customer things has changed, but not all bugs we reported together disappeared. I’m not going for now, but I’ve been testing out.

I hope that Deezer will improve a lot.

In my opinion you can not just sit tight for years to wait full working product when elsewhere you can find one today. It was hard decision, but I might go to tilad or spoti after my Deezer half annual free.

Especially now when they raise price to 10,99, you can get more for less or same price.

I do not pay for Deezer Hifi a dime, but even this I think is not something to make it main player.

This is Legends price. I agree with all posted here, test service one year to see if it really works for you. For me decision was hard, but it feels like posting bug reports to them does nothing as no fixes.

They did fix bugs in months, but is still quite long time to walk daily with them.

I have problems activating tilad, but I sent them a Request.

Also I must say I do not like design of Web App of Deezer, especially the profile with all these tabs I never use and Android Offline not loading. Countless reports by me. It feels sad, I’ve posted about that too, but nothing is yet changed. FLOW plays the same music I heard daily from it already. No variety by now. I am literally at the point that I am willing to pay for a service that works better for me. The offline download problem is on Android for months now also reported by users, not just me and we still can’t see a proper fix for that. When core features, eg the point to subscribe does not work, it’s very funny. You do this or that just to Download playlist Offline full. It takes days and all these workarounds, elsewhere you update playlist and it is update on phone same second. On Deezer you go from app, close it, clear cache, just to get basics work. It’s sad and I tried to let them know as we Legends are to do, with no one to fix. When problem is when devs have time to do, I feel sad to search options. Again, it’s not to make bad day for everyone, I am just tired of bugs much.

I’d really like to stay longer, but with this much bugs, I’ll test for a while elsewhere.

Now as you see I get Deezer Hifi Family for free Legends price.

It’s fine as long as you do not want anything fancy. Apps not equivalent to features.

This all is what makes me going elsewhere, at least for main player :)

All you say is true. A year ago, someone said they were “working on” gapless play. They’re not serious.

Gapeless is available on mobile .

Let's hope Deezer wakes up and starts doing something, because if Deezer Legend leaves to compete, it would be a real shame for Deezer...👎

It was hard decision for me, but as I use it as my main player I can not no more live with it. I asked 9 months ago to improve trackmixes on underground dance, and app still plays top 100 charts. I opened same name on other services, and there was related music to the track. Deezer is great, but I can't just sit tight waiting for years, to get what is available right now if you walk other way.

It was hard decision, but I use only one music player, so I finally need options.

Deezer may work for you if you are listening casually and has no need for else. I do not get benefit from Hifi, so I’d prefer 320K AAC, which they do not do. I need to save my data with my slow nets.

I’m sorry, but I just can’t take it anymore, the bugs I and other users keep reporting simply gets nowhere.

Same bugs week after week, it gets on nerves.

Especially the FLOW playing same I already hear, trackmixes going charts, if you listen rare music.

When generally like I said Deezer has potential, I don’t see it improving, so this is why I decided to change service, even if I get Deezer Legends price which is much cheaper than on price list.

I am for 15 months, if they’d wanted, they’d improve in that time. As small business you really need to support it and I wanted, but the amount of bugs still online simply has tired me to wait.

First the good news, @Rudi. I decided to renew my Hi-Fi subscription today and wait the few months you’ve said will bring gapless play to me so I can listen to long classical pieces without the interruptions.

After reading what you’ve said,, I have a few comments.

First, kudos for your frankness. It’s hard not to want to support a company that bares its heart like you’ve done and to be patient. Second, I could have done without the “tirelessly” in “One day, when we can sit on the same table as those giants you tirelessly compare us to, we'll be able to look back and appreciate the bumpy journey which took us there and the hardcore fans who followed the path alongside us.” I had no idea of the size of your company before I read this and had no way to know until you told me. I had no idea of the size of your staff (for all I knew, you could have been the size of VLC which is actually mass-developed as open source). Thirdly, I have to ask, why not just hire more people to bring the improvements along a little faster.

As for the last bit, I have no idea what your revenue stream looks like, your cashflow, or anything else about your company. But I will say that I wish you well and that I intend to stay, hoping this (Deezer) will become the kind of home stereo library with the kind of variety and depth of music that I could only dream of owning (I’m retired now and on a pension) but which I will be happy to rent.

Of course, my dream is in my head, and the only way you can know it is if I tell it to you. So I’ll be patient if you’ll be patient. I know what it’s like to work on a problem and have it in my head until a solution comes to me.

Lastly, I’m sorry I made you sad. One forgets, with all the bots one communicated through, that there are real live human beings with dreams of their own at the other end. I’m sorry, Rudi, personally, for that. Here’s to hoping our mutual dreams can come true and we can help each other to make them real.

Well, for the time being, I’m looking forward to gapless play, then mass delete. As for search, it is a little strange sometimes. An album I think ought to be there can’t be found by the obvious method but, sure enough, it shows up over there when you get lost. It’s like Paris that way. You have to get lost to find some things. I don’t use the frontpage features. I think they’re designed for young people and, since we’re still in business, I suppose it must work to some degree. It’s just not my thing but I realize it can’t ALL be my thing. I just excited about gapless play coming by year’s end. Until then, I have a lot of Grant Green, Sarah Vaughan, Sonny Criss, and mant others in Jazz to discover, Lefty Frizzell and Carl Smith in Country, the whole Baroque catalog, and I’ll wait ‘til the new year for the Opera, except excerpts. I think it’s a good deal for me. The bugs make it a daytime app for my home, and I’ll use VLC with my own library at night. After setting up night play and perfecting it, I find I just want to sleep most nights, LOL! But it’s there when I need it. I have a VERY buggy Chi-Com designed Pioneer DVR Jukebox that has ONE, yes, ONE suffle play list… in the SAME ORDER. But I beat it because it plays forever. I just had to set the Logitech remote to keep the machine on all the time. That means I’ll have a different place in the list when I come onboard. Anyway probably too much information. I guess I’m saying is that sometimes you just have to be creative and work around limitarions.

I realized yesterday that I had to import tracks from operas to Audacity to make an opera in Acts without gaps in VLC. Sorry Rudi. Deezer will be  better than VLC very soon in this respect.

In conclusion, we can’t expect the world to read our minds. We have to meet it half way. Does Deezer meet my needs halfway? Yes. Soon they will surpass it. I’m in.

My 2 Euros for the conversation :-)

  1. FLOW - I’m in love with that feature . Mix all the genre and suggest new tunes .
  2. Great audio quality . Better than Spotify
  3. I can upload my own MP3 files to the service ( On Spotify you can but it’s a bit tricky )
  4. When you hearted a song it won’t be added to the albums section like on Spotify
  5. Great community . I think you won’t be lost here .

I was using Deezer premium 1y before I switched to Spotify premium. There are quite many features that Deezer is having ...I'm missing Deezer quality and clean sound, also lyrics, sound search, flow etc. but now I just cannot imagine not having gapless playback and 'connect' features that Spotify has. For me those two are basic features. It's so easy and convenient when I stream from xbox to my DAC to use mobile or pc app to search, pick and control playback on xbox and not using controller. For example if I stream from xbox I don't have to turn on my tv to see what is playing and to use xbox controller to play next song. I just open a mobile app and do all that. If those two features will be implemented in Deezer (hopefully soon) I will be back on Deezer without a heartbeat :-)

Hi @ifeher

I have to agree with you that the Spotify Connect feature is brilliant and makes “moving/controlling” what you’re playing around devices easy - hopefully Deezer implements something similar in the future.

A lot of users don’t switch between devices (e.g. it’s just a speaker/pc/phone) they use so don’t need the connect and then Deezer trumps! :)

Oh wow, Sara @SaraJaleh

That's super nice of you, thank you for the feedback. It's also our aim to be smoother when it comes to features and how the app/service works. What I can't dispute, and I'm with you on that, is our passion for music and the fact we do everything having our users in mind. It's what drives everyone forward here. Don't get me wrong, it's tough! Because of our size, we're unable to provide everything our fans ask for, we need to make decisions on what comes first. But it's definitely all to please our beloved users, like you.

And I think your opinion is a true reflection of today's Deezer - and for that, it's nice to see that our care for you and everyone has come through
