Do you have trouble when you try to listen to music offline? We’re looking to improve the offline listening experience for the cases where you have no network and want to listen to Shuffle My Music or even to your Flow.

To play out a couple of scenarios:

  1. You open your app, you’re offline, and you want to listen to some music, but you have no downloads.

  2. You’re listening to some online content, like Flow, and lose your network connection.

If you've experienced these types of scenarios or frustrations, we want to know, and if you have any ideas, we’d be happy to hear them!

Please share below, our developers and product managers are eager to hear from you  :microphone::musical_score::headphones:

Well I’m guessing most people have the cache on their mobiles set to 1gb or even more (me 3gb) - that’s a lot of cached music so when no signal maybe used the cached songs until the signal is back? (for flow or shuffling my music)

On Android, I have a couple of playlists that I have downloaded for offline listening, however, my offline listening has been very frustrating, to say the least. The majority of my supposedly offline music does not play (see attached screenshots). Other times the songs are just outright broken. Also, sometimes the app won’t even load the “favorites” page. Ever since the day I was stuck on a flight with no music, I can no longer rely on Deezer offline.

Google Pixel 3 XL, Android 10, Deezer Family, Deezer App version 6.1.16.108

I was offline in deezer some minutes ago and I realized its not very fun.
And I went on to imagine my vacations where there is no internet usually…
sad and bored I came up with good ideas to make deezer offline enjoyable.

1. Make Playlists, Liked Tracks, Following Artists, Loved Tracks searchable and viewable
but ofc not playable because I have no internet. This way I can talk to my friends about what songs
I like and what my playlists are like without needing internet. like I said just save the text
so we can view it offline and even re organize the playlists while offline and then
when we re connect they update and all get fixed again.

2. make links stay too! because when we are offline in vacations with our friends or family
we would like to “send” these links so that we can send them via bluetooth and they get the
metadata added to their playlists too. This will make them not need to wait to get online
and all they will have to do is play them once they get internet. or download them later on.

this will allow a very social experience while vacationing or offline.
basically these features: viewable and manageable playlists while offline and
the ability to share song, artist, playlist links via bluetooth when offline to another deezer user.

allowing to see my whole library metadata offline, organize my library offline, send links offline.

Still new to Deezer, so there might be something I'm missing, but….

When I'm in offline mode, I can press the three dot menu in the middle of the playback interface to bring up options for playback. If I press "album page", Deezer will go to the album page for the current track as I would expect. However, pressing "artist page" attempts to bring me to an online-only version of the artist page, and because I'm in offline mode, Deezer won't load anything/asks me to go back online.

Somewhat similarly, while still in offline mode, searching for an artist brings up any albums & tracks from that artist I may have in my library, but doesn't actually offer a "artist" landing page.

I'm coming from GPM and so I'm used to having an “artist page" that shows all the albums by that artist (whether that's everything they have available when I'm online mode, or all of the album / tracks I've downloaded when in offline mode).

Seems like a pretty basic but important feature to me. I regularly listen to my entire library shuffled to rediscover music; if I come across a song I've not heard in a while, it's nice to be able to quickly go to that artists page to see what else they have and then quickly add tracks to the playback queue.

I am regularly out of cell service and otherwise prefer to download everything at home instead of wasting mobile data to stream, so having this feature is critical for me from a music service that offers “offline mode".

Is there a way to get this implemented? Or does Deezer have a equivalent feature that I don't understand?

I really miss the posibility to edit playlists and like songs in offline mode.

Right now it seems, you can not design your playlists Offline.

It hasn’t crossed my mind before that it could be done. Ever. Honestly didn’t realise the need. Never tried to edit playlist Offline. You can add feature request at their Idea portal, perhaps will come?

I hardly use Offline mode.

On Deezer Premium, using it in Finland, I pay €9.90 a month for UNLIMITED everything to DNA. Unlimited 50 Mbps 4G+ connection, Unlimited calls and Unlimited messages and sms.

14 GB in EU free of charge. Honestly didn’t use Offline mode on Deezer much to say opinion about it.

I hope this helps.

With best regards from Finland.

I live in Germany and I just have a limited amount of mobile data. Therefore I use the offline mode quite often to make sure I dont use to much data. Furthermore there are many other occasions where I don't have an internet connection e.g. when I'm travalling and the mobile reception is bad, when I want to save some battery, when I don't want to be disturbed by any messages,..

Additionally there is still the small posibility that there could be some long term health risks from to much radiation.

So it would be great to have acess to more features in offline mode. (I come frome Spotify where its posible to edit playlists, like songs, etc. in offline mode.)

Tbh, poor. It seems that you are only allowed to have good quality tracks downloaded and safe guarded if you do a song and dance...... It would be nice to know that you MUST! have WiFi to make app function as you would think. This has led to a frustrating experience.... Previously downloaded tracks unable to listen to while traveling..... Previously downloaded tracks go all satanic..... Poor quality of some tracks...... Questionable authenticity..... Overall I am disappointed

Please improve the offline experience

Such as offline search of all tracks

A playlist or folder that lists all your music

Would be very nice

Thank you

Hello Deezer,

I would like to be able to access all the smart-cached songs when I am in offline mode, in addition to all songs that have downloaded. They should appear in the “Downloaded” section.

Here is my typical workflow with Google Play Music:

  1. I stream music in the app at home over wifi.
  2. The app caches the songs as appropriate. I do not download any specific songs myself.
  3. I go out, outside wifi range, I switch to offline mode because I don’t want to use data. But I can still listen to the cached music. It’s kind of like a mixtape with the music I have been listening recently.

thanks!

Thanks a lot for the feedback here @julien-l I've moved your comments so that the designated team, who checks the thread regularly, would be able to see it too - with ease. Those are good suggestions!

One annoying Issue with Deezer, is when the internet is too slow and the Android App is telling me “Im Offline” BUT my downloaded playlists will try to load something and won’t play for one to two minutes.

Funnily this feature is so glaringly obvious to have, that Deezer, YouTube Music and Spotify are failing to include this. Everything in the "browsing music" experience is geared towards the "album". There is no offline mode of browsing music by "artist". Only by "album" is available. So frustrating!

GPM is the only player that will do this but Google are pulling the plug on it.😒

It hasn’t crossed my mind before, but as Google Music refugee myself, their app indeed worked that way. May I hope the same for Deezer Premiere as well and your 2021 looks promising already

I am 6 months out of GPM for Deezer Music, and I was on time before they finally closed.

I knew in my mind, they said to close it with no return.

With all the honest, I tried Apple Music, Todal Music, Spotify all on trials way or another, and none of them fully satisfied me. The least Apple Music, I couldn’t use it even for free… This bad is.

Premium features including. Deezer is not best, but it’s #1 decision for me.

Especially at €7,99 price point you can use it and watch for improvement whole 2021.

And like I said, your next year looks promising.

I believe Deezer can make use of dedicated cache space on each user’s phone to save the last “x” number of tracks listened to, and when a user is offline, the user can always access those tracks just like the downloaded files work. But this basically should only apply to non-paid users, for paid users, their flow when offline should basically just shuffle all downloaded tracks.

Overall works great, although sometimes some songs haven’t been downloaded correctly, maybe because of not having enough time, or a bug of that version.

For me is important to save in some way, the things we do offline to do automatically when connection is back. Give a heart, add to playlist, etc

Hey @Rick P.

I haven't heard from you for a while. Nice to see your feedback here too!

I'll forward your comments on, we're planning large improvements to the Android app this year :relaxed:

I really like your take on this @Marvin042 I also think that sometimes we forget about the amount of radiation we're exposed to, but that's obviously a very personal opinion.

I'll forward your feedback straight away, I think it's a very interesting point of view on offline features. Exactly what we wanted to have when we created this thread here. Thank you for your contribution!

I was once in Germany, or twice, oh wow. Three times.

They do have poor 4G. In my hotel Mondial it was good 4G, but in Oberhausen NH Hotel it was poor 4G reception. They had also slowish wifi, and I gave them feedback about that. Wifi shouldn’t be limited for stays you pay. Unlimited for money. I guess editing playlist Offline can be good if I ever go to NH Hotel Oberhausen. Almost nowhere Wifi can be found free of charge. Take care.

Please keep it in mind when improving Deezer!

Hi @Italoan Freitas

Thanks for your contribution. Could you please tell us your device model, OS and Deezer app versions? Our latest Android apps have improved greatly on this :relaxed:

Sure. My device is a Mi 10 Lite 5G (EEU), with Android 11 RKQ1.200826.002, and Deezer app v. 6.2.31.68.

No issue here (iOS beta).  It always works when I use it.  And by the size of the downloads I don’t believe there is any issue downloading HiFi quality.

Hello Rudi and the Deezer Team!

I’ve been a bit of a lost soul after GPM shut down. I’ve bounced from Streaming App to App and I think I’m ready to settle down with Deezer. Congratulations to the Team for that win. No fuss, unpretentious HiFi streaming is great. :relaxed:

May I echo some of the posts that have gone before me, and suggest tweaks to the offline mode of the App? At least the Android App.

I use Deezer primarily with the Windows App (fine) and on my Sony NW-ZX507 running Android 9 and the latest Aussie release Walkman Firmware 4.03. It is a WiFi only device so when I’m on the road I generally switch it to Aeroplane Mode to conserve battery. This has the odd effect of not being able to randomise/shuffle the track playlist order of My Favourites, which are all downloaded, while in Offline Mode. They will play linearly, however.

If this is a bug, my  suggestion is to take a peek at it and see if you can fix it. If I’ve missed something bleedin’ obvious, and it’s my fault, please tell me!

M

Hey M, @Mystyler

Great feedback, thank you so much for the kindness! We take the compliments with pride.

And no, not a bug, just something our teams are hoping to sort out in terms of development, soon. It's been on our plans for a while - that's why we also created this thread here to gather feedback.

I'll let them all know so that shuffle gets to take part when in offline mode.

Hi again @Italoan Freitas I'll forward your comments too - it could be that this came back with one of our updates recently. Thanks a lot for your patience!

Hi, @Rudi

There was a update this week. Unfortunately, it didn’t help with the offline problem of “the downloaded Favorites” playlist. Hope the devs recognizes the issue and fix it, since it makes the offline experience non-existent.
