Searching tracks broken

Userlevel 2
I am confused there are no posts about this yet. Am I the only one having trouble searching for tracks by name? Or is the search on topics here broken as well?

I had this issue for months (since I subscribed) and can simply not search for tracks in search field. The issue appears on both web page and application I am using.

What happens for instance I search for "endless summer" and under tracks I get all but that. I see the results are somehow connected with search query so I first get a whole album from G-Eazy called "Endless Summer (Deluxe Edition)". But this is under TRACKS section. If I wanted this album I would have looked under ALBUMS.

So when I am creating playlists, searching for some songs I need to first search the web for artist which is very bad. I actually almost unsubscribed after a few days because I thought Deezer simply doesn't have most songs I am looking for! Naturally I thought all users have this issue so I just kept waiting for fix...

So is this a common issue? Can you please fix it? This is a core functionality if you ask me, am I wrong? Or am I searching it wrong?

Thanks a lot for the info! 🙂 I see what you mean. But at least the tracks are showing in the results and they are listed in the first 5 results. Though I understand that some of the top results don't make sense. As mentioned , I will pass this feedback and your examples on to the team and hope that this will help us to improve the search function! ☺

Hi @Matic.Oblak, I just searched for "endless summer" and in the track section the first two results were singles. Which single were you looking for in particular? Just so I can check if there's an issue ☺

Hi @Anja! For this case I was searching for a single from Oceana. But that is not the point. This keeps happening for me all the time. All the tracks seem to be having a strange sort for me or something and this happens both on web and inside the app.

For another search I remember was finding that old cool song called "Magic Key". Again in this case the first 6 results come from some albums while the track names are completely different.

Understood 🙂 Our search function always shows the most popular albums/tracks/artist that include parts of the search. Of course it should always show the exact result, which is why it would be great if users could send us examples of searches when it didn't work so that we can pass it on to the team ☺ I will of course let the team know about your case and hope this will change in the future 🙏🏻

Thank you Anja!

I had a hunch this is what you are going on but when someone is looking for specific track or artist name or even album I would expect those that that fit bast name-wise are on top or even those alone are listed. It is just a thought but maybe you are missing an extra section like "Popular" which may be on top. If those under tracks, albums and artists are sorted by this same system then those 3 sections are all showing the same results with different content for it... Anyway after some inspection that is not what is going on; only the tracks are wrong:

So I entered (in the app) "magic". Now what I see is:
Artists:
- Magic!
- The Magician
- Magic...
...

Albums:
- A kind of magic...
- 24K Magic
- Magic
...

Tracks:
- 24K Magic
- Chunky
- Perm
- That's what I like
...

So you see the shown results all show albums and artists which contain a word "magic" but not the track. Those first 4 items are all from an album called 24K Magic and only the first contains "Magic" in name (which is coincidence since it is a part of the same album).

I hope you can see the issue here. I agree it is nice to show popular less related items when you are exploring. But when people are looking for a specific item this can be quite annoying.

Thank You!

Thanks! 🙂 Just one more thing, can you tell me which track you were actually looking for? Just to make sure it's showing up in the results at all ☺

@Anja

For "endless summer": https://www.deezer.com/track/28898241
For "magic key": https://www.deezer.com/track/3026450
For "feel": https://www.deezer.com/track/119429176 (this one was also nearly impossible to find)

@Anja Thank you for looking into this. But please note that I am pretty sure "they are listed in the first 5 results" is not always true. I simply forgot which of the searches have proved extremely hard for me to search for and I have given up on some of them. It was only what I saw the search results for "endless summer" I decided to write to you about it.
Did this ever get resolved? I have the same problem

Hi there @ajfinkelstein

Our search has improved since - but work hasn't stopped. When you say the same problem, what exactly are you experiencing?
