If you search for an artist, say "ledger", you will find it. If you look for the albums that this artist produced, you will find only them that other album you didn't know were produced from artists with exactly the same name but absolutely no relation to the one you searched for. This is very confusing. Why not separate the artists internally in the database?

Hi there, thanks for your suggestion. What would be your idea on how to do this? If artists have the same name how would you separate them? Could you explain that in more detail?

Well, let me say 2 things here:

1) Spotify can do that 😉 But that's not the main reason...

2) I don't imagine that you Deezer pay the artists according to their name, but that they have an artist-ID or an email address or some kind of an account that indeed does take them from another in your database.

So it should be also possible to keep 2 artists with the same name separate from one another in the app and everywhere else for the music consumers, just add the key "ID" or whatever other index you keep besides 🙂

Hi there, sometimes same name artists end up going to the same profile, but we can definitely separate them! Please send us the link 😉

I can give you easily 2 examples.

Example 1: Petra

http://www.deezer.com/artist/15039

Search for the Christian metal group called "Petra" and see the covers of the albums. It's obvious that not all come from the same group

Example 2: LEDGER

http://www.deezer.com/artist/11332070

Jen Ledger started with her debut album "not dead yet" last year but now you see albums from other artists other styles and other languages even. So it's obvious that Deezer has difficulties to make a difference between distinct artists with exactly the same name.

I'm sure there are many more, especially those artists with one word band names.
Don't ask me why they don't sue each other, but I wonder how Deezer can pay the artists separately? And if Deezer can make the difference, we should see it in the application correctly too...

You could use artists' ID's from discogs or musicbrainz.
Do it automatically at the beginning, then filter things manually based on user's suggestions.
Also, a cross reference with albums, then song names would help a lot.
Look at these two, please.

Thanks, this was reported to the right team and hopefully they will be able to change it soon!

Yoav

Thanks! What album does not belong to Yoav?

LOL 🙂
Require artists to check if their name is unique and if there is an already registered artist with the same name require to add [country] to their name maybe?

I've just searched for Death music and was surprised to find out they have releases in 2018 )) despite the fact the band doesn't exist and the vocalist is dead.

Death - metal band
Death [UK/USA] - some rapper with very bad taste in album cover art.

everything from 2016 and later is related to other artists
Hi @Rafael.
Can you please have a look at this release and help us create a unique profile for the corresponding artist (he has only released this EP)?

https://www.deezer.com/en/album/85625052

The artist is actually registered under the name "Manatí" (with an accent on the "i") .. Maybe you could register it as "Manati" (with no accent) and that should be enough..

Something could be also done to register this artist as completely unique, to prevent further issues in the future..

Thank you very much!
Hi there, there's also those 2 different bands with the same name:

https://www.deezer.com/en/album/88323712

https://www.deezer.com/en/album/4126491

Any chance you could separate them?

Cheers!
King Charles : https://www.deezer.com/us/artist/288324 the profile contains albums from the indie singer but also from some rapper with the same name.
Beau: https://www.deezer.com/us/artist/465643 on this profile there are at least 3 artists, if not more.

I must have ran into at least 10 artists aggregated under the same profile since they have the same name in the last couple of years on Deezer.
Please fix Artist page for Ghost, apparently there's another group called Ghost with a completely different sound...
Hi! @Rafael. Can you separate these 2 artists that have the same name (Casmurro)?

1) https://www.deezer.com/en/album/91333462

2) https://www.deezer.com/track/570961112?utm_source=deezer&utm_content=track-570961112&utm_term=2684407062_1553436329&utm_medium=web

These are 2 different artists, but they have the same profile. Can you make 2 different profiles?
Hi! Could you please seperate the various artists under the profile "Nu"?
There are at least a rockband, a german rapper and the electronic music artist and I guess, "Nü" is a separate artist as well.

There are a lot of albums, but I guess its quite easy to seperate them just by the genre of their music.
Thanks!

This bundles up 2 or 3 artists, i cannot tell, but definitely more than one.

https://www.deezer.com/de/album/54627492

this is 3. A folk singer, a rapper and the one i was looking for, a pop punk band.
Oh my gosh. Deezer is the worst for having two bands/one name on the same profile. Almost everything I search for does this. It's mostly rappers stealing names of established indie groups. I'll send you a few.

Devo - Legendary art punk band
https://www.deezer.com/en/album/83155112

Devo - some shitty new rapper
https://www.deezer.com/en/album/105139492

Clearly not the same artist.

The Residents - Art punk since 1971
https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/1703

Residents. - Some shitty new producer or something
https://www.deezer.com/en/track/41276041

Clearly not the same artist.

Jared Morris - Folk/Rock musician since 1999 (ME)
https://www.deezer.com/en/album/94761622

Jared Morris - Some shitty rapper (NOT ME)
https://www.deezer.com/en/album/81387872

Clearly not the same artist.

EMF - You know.. EMF?? They Wrote Unbelievable ?
https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/8433

EMF - Some shitty rapper
https://www.deezer.com/en/album/45079221

There's a ton more.. This is really an epidemic. Please get a handle on this.

Jared Morris (Original Version)
One More

XTC : The legendary Swindon New Wave Band (1976-2005)

XTC : Another no name rapper

I have one as well,

Dio, one of the best rappers from the Netherlands

Is fused together with a rock band.
There is no resemblance with those two
