Why does my phone use data when I'm listening to Deezer on my PC?

I normally listen on my Android phone with some BT speakers, but this month I was low on data so I was using the Win 10 app on my PC instead. I’ve been listening to a lot of music over the last 1-2 weeks, I start a flow and leave it going more or less all day. I started getting data usage alerts on my phone saying Deezer had used 2GB, but I thought it would be OK because I had stopped using it. Couple of days later I got another alert, checked the data usage and Deezer had now used 4GB. Same again two days later, another alert, sure enough Deezer had used 6GB and completely maxxed out my data, that’s it until it resets in 2 weeks.

I checked the data usage graph and Deezer is using total 5.5GB background data only on the days when I was using my PC to listen, so I’m confused.

My PC is not tethered through my phone, it’s connected to a completely different wireless network & ISP.

So why is the mobile app using so much data when I’m listening on a completely different device? And how can I stop this happening?

Hey @RodneyRabbit

Sorry this wasn't picked up before, it fell off our radar.

Apologies for the experience you've had. I find it odd that your data was being used on the phone. Was the app running in the background? If you have the synchronised queue lists' feature on, the app might pull some data to catch your queue. But that's quite a lot of data. Here's what I suggest: deactivate mobile data or streaming from the app, except only when you're on WiFi (check the app settings for this) and then speak to our Customer Care team about the extra data costs you had, perhaps there's something they can do about it.

Do any people from deezer read posts in this community or is there no support?

I paid for some extra mobile data and once again it’s being eaten up by the deezer app, when I’m not even using the app, I’m listening on my PC.

This is a real problem for me, in 2021 I shouldn’t have to turn off mobile data or block data use just for the app, both of which need to be turned back on manually when I want to listen on my phone again. It’s inconvenient.

Been paying for deezer for 3-4 years but if support doesn’t exist I’ll try spotify instead.
