Several problems/issues with app and Deezer service

Hello Deezer Team,

first of all I like Deezer and the concept of Flow. But since the beginning I have several problems which seem to get worse over time.
I tried many different things that are suggested here in the FAQ or in the community forums but none of theme could solve my issues.
Maybe you have some ideas. Running Deezer Android app with Android 7

  • Without subscription sometimes advertisements keep repeating / are playing in loop. Sometimes the same advertisement keeps repeating 3-4 times (I do not comaplain about ads in general when using the free service)
  • Sometimes - and that's new - songs will repeatedly restart playing from the beginning after some time
  • Sometimes playing an advertisement locks up the app/playlist and as you cannot "skip" an ad the Deezer app becomes unusable - quite annoying while driving
  • Often I have to manually skip to the next song as the Flow playlist does advance automatically at the end of a song - the song stays at "-0.00". Sometimes pushing play/pause might help
  • Often - I think when there's poor coverage - Deezer cannot advance to the next song. Hitting next/skip or play/pause might help sometimes but the next time this happens the app gets stuck and there's a "Retry" button showing in the app - very useful while driving 😉
Most of the times these issues occur while in motion (bike or car) but sometimes these things happen while stationary with WiFi

The latter two issues might appear after the first song or sometimes after 20 minutes of playing.
I even experienced the latter two issues with an active premium subscription - so this does not seem to be related to "free".

What I've tried so far:
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the app
  • Moving app to different storage
  • Signing out and in again
  • Setting cache size to 16GB or higher
  • Changing the battery saving settings for the app
  • Changing storage for cache
  • Changing the phone/device
  • Checking Antivirus settings for Deezer
Could these issues be related to Bluetooth connections?

These issues make the app/service quite unusable and the premium subscription useless for me.

Hopefully you have some ideas to resolve my issues.

Hi there, there's a lot of different feedback in this one topic. Just for the future, it's always a good idea to look for existing topics for certain feedback or bug reports as one like this will less likely receive a lot of replies by other users. :)

Regarding the ads: We are actually already working on a smaller ads programming issue some users experienced and this will hopefully solve the problem you are having right now with one of the next app updates 🙂

What does that mean exactly? When do they start again? Does this happen with certain songs only or at random times?

What do you mean by advance automatically? This also sounds like an issue with your connection. Meaning if the connection is cut for a second or longer, it's normal that Deezer stops. But I'm happy to pass on the feedback and hopefully Deezer will try again automatically after a connection issue, without you having to press the play button again. :)

I understand that it's not ideal that you have to press the play button again after a connection issue, but what do you mean by unusable? You can still use Deezer and we can't really influence any connection issues with your Wifi or mobile network while you're out. Also as mentioned above, these issues can be related to the ads programming issue which should be fixed very soon. You may already notice a difference after the update 🙂

Yes I know that this is quite a big post. :-)

Ok, I'm looking forward to these changes with the advertising and keep checking that.

Restarting songs:
Sometimes during playback songs restart from the beginning. This is neither related to any specific songs nor to a specific playtime. So yes, this is random.

Manual skip:
Usually the next starts playing automatically after a song has finished. So in that case this does not happen - Playback just stops/pauses at the end of the song and the next song in the playlist will not start playing.

Usability:
Unusable for me means that I cannot push any "retry" buttons on my smartphone while I'm driving. So in that case I either have to stop the car, press "retry" and continue (for the next three songs) or have to switch to radio or silence.

IMHO an app or streaming service that is designed to "listen to music everywhere" should tolerate a short network outage as there might not be coverage everywhere or dead spots.
