Notifications / Hear This / Recommendations on Android

In the App on my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy A3) in the Notifications tab, I only see very occasional updates (sometimes no update for a few days) and only with Deezer shared albums (which are frankly not very interesting for me). It has been like this for a few weeks (over months I think).
I believe the 'Notifications' tab used to be 'Recommendations' which worked reasonable well for me, recommending new music according to my taste and helping me to find new music I appreciated. I don't understand why this has been replace by the 'Notifications' which in its current state is a huge downgrade.

Moreover, the 'Hear This' suggestion in the web works well, giving me recommendations of various types (albums, playlists, etc.). I don't understand why I cannot get the same functionality on my phone, which in the end is the app I pay you for!

Please note that this is a very similar thread to 'Hear This and Notifications' from Stan B. But this seems to be closed as Solved and the only replies we get there are from Raphael saying 'please see above'. And in the above we only see a promise from Anja to keep us updated (not happening) and a suggestion to open a separate thread for Android. So, I'm doing that, opening a thread for Android.

Thanks.

This indeed is a MAJOR SUPER ENORMOUS downgrade of your mobile app! Not just something that would be nicer to have. We already had it and for some unimaginable reason you stopped it. I hope you will listen to us, your users=your subscribers=the people who pay, to bring it back asap.

I do understand that you're not SURE when it will be implemented, but this does not really say a lot. If you promise to "keep everyone posted about any updates" how about starting with some EXPECTED TARGET DATES? Or shall we simply assume this will NEVER BE IMPLEMENTED because you don't even know when the tech will get around to working on it?

Also, note that replies in the spirit of "see above" to any of our numerous complaints about this issue only make us more frustrated and likely to leave your services. So I would certainly appreciate you being a bit more frequent and informative in your promised updates on this issue.

Thanks
Dear Deezer.

This situation annoys me a lot. Being software developer and aware of product management I don’t really understand how the hell it’s possible to cut off one of the core features in mobile app (ios version 6.33.0.8) and preserve it on web and desktop apps.

Just want to remind you that you have already done almost the same - "hear this" was removed from old macos app. I wrote several times to your support and you suggested me not using it. Really? Thanks to your team you created new beta version of the macos app and it has "hear this".

Shortly after this update you removed "hear this" from mobile app. Why? It's already working on web and desktop.

Here is my usecase - I start my morning with a new portion of recommended music. I don’t use web nor desktop app on my way. The only recommendation I see expired two weeks ago. I’m really considering to move my music to another provider.

Dear Deezer, I cancelled my premium subscription. Thank you for your past performance, it used to be a really good app. Sorry that it is no longer the case 😞

I have been following the topic on the loss of the notifications/hear this availability on android and apple devices. As has been mentioned it use to be updated in the past but has now stopped. It was my regular routine that in the mornig having breakfast I would open the app on android and update my listening experiences by checking recommendations in the notifications. It was very convenient and an enjoyable morning process. Now once a week I open my pc and update my hear this preferences but it is not an enjoyable process and is a bit of a choir. It is not a deal breaker but it does lessen the enjoyment of the app. I also use to open the app to browse notifications when I was in free wifi hot spots whilst having a coffee, again it was a very enjoyable process and one that was looked forward to. I switched over from spotify to deezer when they stopped suporting the logitech squeezebox and I have been and still are very pleased with deezer but any improvements to the apps would make the use of the app more enjoyable.
Hi,
I have one idea for a workaround. I use ifttt.com. There I created 2 applets: when I get an album recommended, I add a track of this album to a "recommended album" playlist. Same works for a recommended track where you could add the track to a "recommended tracks" playlist.

After restarting to use Deezer (was using Spotify the last months), I got first "hear this" recommendations Today. They are visible in the desktop client (for Windows at least). I also got the recommended albums in my "recommended albums" playlist thanks to the ifttt.com applet.

This is a nice workaround for getting the recommendations on the mobile app as long as the feature is not directly accessible in the app.

Maybe this is a temporary solution for you as well?

Best
Thomas
hi, are there any plans for a mobile release with ‘hear this’ ? If so what is the timeline ? Thanks

Once again, Hear this does not get updated for more then a week. Hmm....

Hi @Ana.

The suggestions function from Deezer was the one reason I chose Deezer over other services like Spotify. I don't use my desktop computer to listen to music much at all. I use my phone, connected to my house's speakers, so having this feature available on desktop doesn't help at all. When is the new feature coming? Unless it's in the next month I'll be cancelling my Premium subscription. I lost the "hear this" function on Android many months ago and without it, unfortunately, Deezer really isn't worth the money to me.

Cheers,

Tony
Guys, relax! Deezer recognized for sure that it was no good idea to remove a feature too soon with follow-up development taking more(?) time as intended.
"Soon" in terms of beta availability means just that: developers started implementation and we will get it when it is done. Don't forget that there can be obstacles in the way and priority might be not as high as you wish.

When Deezer decided to touch the feature they analyzed probably how often it is used on mobiles. If the usage was low, their decision to improve it with the goal of increasing the engagement with mobile app and recommendations was right.

Notifications feature got not improved since it's release. It just was time to do something.
Love the new update I got today. (Y)

Thanks for moving my topic into this thread. It's a good idea to have related issues in one place.

Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding: I was not talking about the Hear This feature. I was talking about that I don't receive any notifications if and when an artist in my list of favorites releases a new track or album.

If this all is somehow related and have the same root cause merging the two topics is just fine. Just wanted to make sure there is no misunderstanding.

Hi again, yes, I understood 🙂 We do have an issue with notifications being sent, at least on Android. Especially for new releases there doesn't seem to be a notification. We've already passed this on to the team and are waiting for an update.

@Anja Honestly, I think the Flow is a Flop. Not at all the same functionality as 'Recommendations' or 'Hear This' that suggests albums or playlists but then let's you browse through these and decided which ones you like and want to listen to. We do not font to be fed up music, we want to be recommended music.

Hi - my Android is also the same, nothing under notifications for over 2 weeks
Userlevel 4
it's been like this for a month

On desktop it still sends me new stuff pretty often.

guys from russian forum called 4pda also have this issues with their android app. please, look into this.
Hi. My notifications have nor worked well for months now. I receive only a few and only on albums no more playlists. They have even completely stopped for the last 4 weeks. I also have this bug on the notification screen where a message for Deezer family constantly appears, can't make it go away. Thanks for your support.

Hi there, as explained above we are working on this part of the app and hopefully get it back soon. We kindly ask for patience ;)
I’m sorry, Flo. We have been patient. This feature hasn’t been working for over a month for me. And it’s the second time in 3 months it has stopped working. And no amount of smiley faces are going to make me any more patient.

As the commenters above have made clear, this is a key feature within your app and a major reason to use it. If it’s unavailable, why should we be paying a subscription for a part-functioning app?

It’s not acceptable to give an unspecific timeline and expect everyone to be just patient. Would you be patient if you had the same service anywhere else? This is a key feature - it should be a priority for your devs to fix and they should be working to a fixed timeline. And users of your service should be compensated accordingly. Otherwise, what’s compelling us to stay with deezer vs Spotify or Apple Music?

Would appreciate a more considered and customer-orientated response. For all of us.
just letting you know that I am VERY IMPATIENTLY working for this feature to be back,
premium member for years
so dissapointed for you guys to remove that without any warning or workaround, nor date to be redesigned, etc.
core feature for me.
Please speed up the pace, and if possibly I'd like to get the access to BETA programme too.

Hey everyone, like we've been mentioning for a while now, the hear this was gone from the mobile app because the way we present recommendations was being redesigned and it's finally here! The Flow tab was launched today and is now available for all users. Check out the article that explains more here and let us know what you think on the comments there. We hope you all enjoy it 🙂

@sebu0815 I moved your post to this existing topic. We are aware of this problem on Android and our team is looking into this, but as of now I don't have any details about the progress.

But I regularly check with the team to see if there are any news and I'll let you know as soon as I know more.

Just to say I completely agree with mgbelge above. Flow just isn't as good as 'Recommendations'. Much of the flow doesn't seem particularly new either. I have to resort to the Deezer 'recommendations' in the Sonos app to find albums I have not listened to before.

Hi there, as mentioned on the other topic, this change was intended like that - the notification on the phone would be more for the sharing between your friends and people you follow, whenever they share something it appears there, including the things shared by Deezer. If no one in your circle is sharing then I agree that it does seem a bit pointless to only get sporadic Deezer notifications there.

The Hear This, with all the recommendations as it used to be, is still available on our site and the desktop app. I agree with you that it would be nicer to have it on the mobile app too. We have receive a lot of feedback about this and a lot of people miss the recommendations being more easily accessible. Our developers are aware of this and more work is already being done on the notifications feature, but we're no sure when it’s going to be implemented.

We will definitely keep everyone on the Community posted about any updates 🙂

@mgbelge, when we say changes are being developed, we don't mean that notifications will go back to how they were, I just want to make that clear in case that's what you're expecting. Our developers are aware of all the feedback received but this change was planned and is part of other changes that are coming towards the way we offer recommendations. This change happened because soon recommendations will be presented in a better way. I can't guarantee you will like this changes, but I do think they are pretty cool and will be worth the wait 🙂

As for the the "see above" replies, that's done when we move a new topic to an existing one. Partly because it doesn't make a lot of sense to have multiple topics about the same issue and also so the person can be part of a conversation that is already going on. We feel like directing people to existing conversations is the best way to go, but if you have an idea of how we can handle that better, let us know. We're always open to constructive feedback 🙂

Thanks for clarifying. Let's hope the new functionality is really going to be as cool as you seem convinced and it won't take ages before it is out. Cause the current state (which we suffer for quite a while already) is a real crap.
