Hi all where has the change storage option gone. I cannot find it for love nor money and for some reason I know need to increase storage again due smart cache continues to grow rediciously big. So want to use my sd card rather than phone.

Any idea where this is or why it has gone or even better can offer guidelines to where it is?

Thanks

Dan

It was removed because it was buggy .

It may come back when they write it from the scratch as with many features.

Thanks for your reply. Would you good as your smart cache seems to eat phone data. Not sure how I have 41gb of data but as stated that might be due to the higher quality setting. My beef is jsut becusse I have a large selection of music it might come unusable due to me running out of phone memory which in turn stops flow and other tracks from continued play. Stops on the regs.

Thanks for you quick answer hpguru

I recommend to download Offline in HQ not in FLAC.

As well you might want to LIMIT cache to 1-5 GB only depending on which quality you stream.

Cheers I will try this but if I limit the cache I find its error codes every other track and cannot use flow or my own playlist without it stopping. So originally I jacked up the cache to fix this but it's getting to a point that I will need a huge amount of space.

I like the quality to be high as music shouldn't be listened to on anything other than high quality and off good speakers

Cheers

Sure, this is error at their end.

You can wait if they fix it or find something else which actually works.

I too kept cache big enough just to pass by various playback errors. Now I am elsewhere.

Sadly the only issues I've ever experienced storing and using content on my SD card have come from deezer updates, since the updater apparently isn't smart enough to check in advance where my files are before updating. Every update reset the pointer so the app couldn't play downloaded stuff that wasn't also in the cache.

I 'fixed' this by doing a fresh install then suspending app updates. I won't get dancing emojis on the lyrics page or whatever the latest new features are, but I'm ok with that.

To the OP - I have version 6.2.34.46 installed on August 25th and think it may be the last version that allowed you to set your storage location. You can download it from the net (vs the app store) and sideload it if you want to use external storage again.

Seems to be buggy yes, perhaps they are writing it from a scratch .

Perhaps. Call me a cynic but unfortunately Deezer doesn’t have a good track record for fixing or supporting admittedly niche features. After all, lots of people with Android devices either don’t have the ability to use external storage or do but don’t use it, and no Apple device even supports it. I’ve probably got 100 GB of music stored on my phone - most people don’t.

I think it’s far more likely that the option will remain deleted given that Deezer’s mobile focus is on iOS and I’ll be joining you back over on Spotify in a couple months once they have a family HiFi plan in place. This single move will give me a whole bunch of features that have either been deleted or have been “in discussion” since I started using Deezer 6+ years ago including:

  • A linux desktop app (something Spotify had when I left them in 2015)
  • Personally curated music. Deezer had staff or maybe volunteers that did this in the past but stopped doing so 3 or 4 years ago. Those playlists introduced me to stuff Flow never did, whereas now the current recommended playlists are built for the masses. Flow used to be great but for awhile now it’s become my own personalized Top 50 radio station with a few gems tossed in here and there. Before starting Flow I can list with confidence 10 songs I know I’ll hear if I let it play for awhile
  • Offline storage (the most recent feature to be dropped)
  • UPNP / DLNA connectivity
  • Crossfade
  • Apps that are better supported. I have 2 Marantz receivers that work well with Spotify but not with Deezer even though the Deezer logo is on the box. I just read that the Roku app might stop working next month which is a problem for me since I use 2 of these to access Deezer (because my receivers can’t...). To the best of my knowledge the current Roku app doesn’t support HiFi, and while the XBox app does it’s buggy and frustrating to use. A web browser is the lowest common denominator option on a computer but it has a memory leak and will crash if left running long enough
  • External DAC support

Additional features like upcoming local concert info for your favourite bands and Spotify’s much better social features which help to introduce new stuff are just a bonus.

I like Deezer but it appears they simply don’t have the resources necessary to fix broken stuff, properly market their service to expand their use base and improve their product in areas that are useful to me. If I used an iPhone, listened to Justin Bieber and didn’t care about using my home audio gear it would be better.

I actually wait their Hifi plan. I assume it will be same price as on Deezer.

Then the Deezer will have problems to keep people stay. On Spottily you can utilise your micro sdhc card and it can be over 256 GB easily in size in all modern phones. Keep me posted, thanks.

Just keep in mind on Spottily there is perhaps Offline limit:

You can download up to 10,000 songs on each of up to 5 different devices.

The top 50 FLOW is one reason I left them and it happened recently. I mean recently it started to play mainly my favourites with little to discoiver. I was listening own hits just like you somewhere.

Crossfade on Spottily is amazing, feels like DJ in your life!

Just back to the author's ( @dixon ) original question.

Yes, with the current Android version there is no longer any option to select the storage location. Everything is automatically loaded onto internal memory.

Reason: Many errors arise from the SD cards used. This makes it very difficult for the developers to reproduce the errors.

You can almost say that the Android functionality will be adapted analogously to iOS. With iOS, there is no inherent option to save to SD.

Not a problem for Spotify developers…

iPhone is bad design. You get same additional storage for 75% off. iPeople paying $100 more of phone to get more storage you can get for Android with micro card for $25 or less… seems legit.

Paying less for phone. Not being able to store on additional card is back in time...

@hpguru

Spotify is the best ever….. It's getting annoying.

Do you want to do this all the time now?

I am just telling that some Developers, but not Deezer developers, can solve these issues.

I have no problems storing my music on sd card. I tried Tidal, works too.

Deezer is going back in time removing this and lots of customers as well.

Don’t be blind just because you are Legends.

This option hasn't been removed.
Maybe a permission issue. For those who cannot find it in Setting > Data and Storage > Change storage location,
What is your device? and Android version?
